Air Con

If anybody is after any bits of an AC system, please contact me, as ive just removed mine from my 968...It weighed in at 21Kgs....
This was a retro fit system , therefore all the pipes are flexible + NOT as in the FF system "solid" ..So havnt corroded...The only bits i didnt remove were the heat exchange unit behind the dash + the ac panel "operation" in the dash facia...EVERTHING else is available + was working perfectly before removal....

I think it's like most modern gadgets - if you have them you get used to them and think you NEED them.

The first 25 years of my working life were spent in air conditioned computer rooms and I used to whilt in the summer heat when I was outside. Nowadays I have abandoned the molly coddled confines of the computer room and my body copes with summer heat much better than it used to.

The problem is all the shops, bars, cinemas etc now have air conditioning so you spend your life at an artficial temperature, go outside and your body can't cope [&o] Just think of the billions we waste creating this artificial cocoon for ourselves

It's nature folks. Get used to it

Rant over [:D]

Another good solution against heat in a car - to quit drinking beer and to get slim [:)]

Another good solution against heat in a car - to take some well-chilled beers with you and drink them during the journey.

I don't see how the words 'good' and 'quit drinking beer' can be used in the same sentance [&:][&:][&:]

Ach - Oli beat me to it - sort of

A multiple choice question here Chaps. It's not hard.

It goes like this ....

Q. It's a hot day. You can either:

1) Find one of these:

Or

2) Do this (in reverse):

Imagine black with black, sunroof delete, broken air con(normal), and......drivers window is jammed - now that would not be a nice place to be [:(]

Sounds like a Notts police dog handlers car....?

(get me coat!)

It's not actually mean to be funny, it was highlighting a point based on a topical subject today. The point being a dark interior in sunlight, car interior gets to about 80 degrees, PDQ too.

The supposed trained dog handler seemingly did not realise how hot cars get. I am as dismayed by this seemingly obvious lapse of basic dog ownership and common sense as you and everyone else. It makes me wonder what criteria we have for the Police nowadays, but then again my limited dealing with them illustrates their lack of common sense, bordering on ineptitude. No offence to any BIB on here, mind.

Another serious point: while we are talking about the colour of a car's interior, surely the colour of the exterior is more relevant?

It has a major impact, yes. Hence why there are so many white cars out in Dubai and Saudi.

SInce I got the S2 cab back in 1999, with it's linen interior and no aircon, it is surpising how comfy it always is in the sun. And yet my old golf with black leather and same exterior colour as the S3, (red) was horrible, even with aircon.
Why I was after a beige interior for the Mondy Estate we bougth last year.......came with aircon seats too, and it's very comfy in this weather, especially for a huge car like it is.

Its a good theory that sounds plausible to me. My 968 is arctic silver, that with the light grey leather has made for a pretty comfortable environment this week.

Air con is a must on the cabriolet, believe it or not, as in the wet months using the drying effect of the A/C is the only non-tedious way of clearing the rear plastic panel if you are, of necessity, driving the car with the roof up, which I have to say I try to avoid whenever possible, but somtimes it needs to go for its weekly 50 mile round trip when it is just too damn cold

Winter....what is this "winter" you talk of!! Hahahaha! MInes is tucked away in the garage for all bar four months of the year nowadays!

Mind you, I recently noticed that the Cup 2 wheels and tyres I got off ebay and fitted to it a couple of years back, are fitted with Continental Winter tyres! No wonder it is so lairy in this heatwave!

Got some Falkens on order!

BTW I did used to use mine all year round, and used this stuff called "cat crap" on the back window! It was some canadian stuff used for ski goggles to stop them misting. Worked a treat!

You're not alone James, even with my very stylish Classic Grey interior, mine is like an oven, and that was before this heatwave.

As a result I tuck it up in the garage and waft about in air-conditioned loveliness in the other car.

I've looked into this with cars I've had in the past. With a 944 it would be cheaper to sell yours and buy one with it already fitted.

i fitted a compact van AC unit into my bmw 2002 turbo with no troubles, only tricky part was routing the ducting to the vents, why would the 944 be more difficult?

thanks

trouble is, most of the ones that have a/c don't work ("just need re-gassing" [8|]) and can cost an arm & a leg to fix - new condensers & compressors & leaky hoses are the usual suspects.
