Another Pedal..

Wow! That's a bit steep for the bigger shims ... are they gold plated? Could you get away with seven 1mm shims instead?

Gert at Carnewal has factory part shims (all prices for a pair) at:

1mm @ €30

2mm @ €34

3mm @ €48

5mm @ €56

7mm @ €56

I guess it depends where you buy them.

 
True. I was quoted for Porsche parts, they're 996 part numbers so haven't changed in quite a while!

 
It's 1.5hrs labour, or it was for my GT4 which is a bit of a faff at the rear due to the aero panels which had to be removed. £144.

 
A quick update for anyone interested in my alignment vs Ralphs. It's now all sorted on my car with additional 5mm shims fitted to the front, £70 for the pair, taking the total to 10mm. My car is now running:

Standard ride height

ARBs in the middle setting front and rear

-2 degrees of camber each side at the front

0:02 minutes of total toe-in at the front

-1:30 degress of camber each side at the rear

0:20 minutes of total toe at the rear

Job done. Just need the rain to clear off now so I can finish off the last 400-odd miles of running in!

Looks as though you're stuck with the -1:30 at the rear if all the LCA adjustment has been used. I came across a video showing how to gain access to the rear strut top and it was very fiddly and time-consuming, so maybe that's one of the main reasons why no-one bothers when resetting the geo. We're talking very small angles of arc here, and you can't help but feel that with time and perseverance it would be possible to 'nudge' the top mounts towards the centre of the car ... who knows?

I always wonder how robust the geo settings remain once set and you've driven a few thousand miles on knobbly UK roads rather than smooth track surfaces.

1:30 is absolute maximum on the rear on my car Jeff, and when Googling over the last week or so on the subject it seems that's the limit on both the 981 and 982 GT4s if you're running standard ride height and parts. I'm fine with that, it's good enough for a road car but if you track a lot you'd probably need the RSS rear toe or Stage One suspension kit to get more camber but keep a decent amount of toe.

As for the stability of the settings, I think they're bound to move a bit. My car currently has a slight imbalance on the front camber settings by a small number of minutes, but I suspect even if they were perfect on the Hunter machine one pothole/bump/kerb hop and you'd be out again by a few minutes anyway. Speaking to the guys at Ninemeister they just put the absolute maximum they could on both sides and found the slight difference acceptable.

Exactly the same suspension parts on the 981 and 982 GT4 Andrew, no difference whatsoever. Your car will have the same adjustment and subsequent limitations as mine :)

 
From Goodwood Trackday with Lotus on Track August 11th. Very hot day, very hot car, tyres up 10 psi after first run. I had a couple of good sessions running with a Focus RS and a race Elise. The GT4 has good grunt and just leaves them on the straights, corners - they were braver/better than me through St Mary's. Touched 148mph before braking for Woodcote (needs a clean exit from Lavant) and braking from 110mph for Madgewick (ditto Chicane).

Noise tested at 92db (at 5k rev limit) which is good as I can go on 98db days and not be limited to the more expensive 105db days the Club runs. I might try Thruxton which is 90db if I can test at 4k revs.

 
Great photos, car looks lovely, is that a front wheel lift? !

Do you select 1st to invoke the 5k rev limiter? On my 981 Gt4 it revs to red line unless you have selected 1st (and prepped for 'launch'.

The rev limiter is the same function as the GT3 from 991 generation. In neutral, floor the throttle, can't rev past 5k.

Not front wheel lift, almost straight accelerating out of the chicane past the pit entrance. Looks good though [:)]

Nice pics Ralph, and good news on the noise front as well. At least that's one positive spin-off from GPF fitment, although it's going to be interesting to see what happens if owners fitting one of the number of aftermarket exhaust options now available will fall foul of the sound level meter if they take their cars on track.

I agree, if you track a lot you need to choose any aftermarket silencers carefully.

Not an issue for me, I'll take the extra noise thanks!

 
That's right Dave. There are now quite a number of after-market options available, and quite understandably in the rush to get to market I wonder if the suppliers have concentrated on sound quality rather than absolute levels?

Any idea what Ninemeister are planning to do with your car in this respect? It could be a useful selling point if they can demonstrate that in addition to improving the sound quality, the system will be suitable for track use too.

They haven't said, as I'm not interested in that aspect, but I suspect they'll do what everyone else has done and offer silenced and downturned tips for those that need them [:)]
