£500 + VAT all in for the welding, prep and paint. I supplied the headlamp ring and new sill rubbers. I lef the car with him for a couple of weeks and let him take his time over it between any urgent jobs that came in. I was very pleased with the price.

Steve,
These are the rear corner support brackets 965 505 495 00 left side and 965 505 496 00 right side
Pic shown is the left side

Thanks Paul, I can now see that those are the rear most ones. I initially thought they were straight bars because I have one on the right and nothing on the left. But it's now clear that I just have part of one remaining on the right [:D]. I've already replaced the support bars near the wheel arches (part no 964 505 475 00 for both sides). So it looks like I'll also now have to get the rear ones for Christmas [:D].

Well as a follow on to the rusty front wing stay/brackets you can't get anymore ;-(

964.504.141.00

Porsche told me today they are not yet flagged as "discontinued" but you just can't get them ...but he suspects they will post the discontinued flag any day !

The only ones available now from Porsche are the RS version 964.504.141.01...whats the difference ;-)

1) Slight smaller in diameter
2) Slight longer in length

Same price each £59+vat !!!

So a new hole, and all will be well..

Old and new on the picture

A couple of pictures of my car in the paint shop ready to be painted after the rust on the left windscreen pillar and rear left wing had been worked on ..both bumpers and shark fins to be painted as well .

Left rear wing with lifting paint due to bad repair before allowing moisture to get in via the inside of the rear wing .....as the repaired underseal was coming off and allowing the water to be pushed through a seam (quarter panel weld) repair

Good to see it's all masked up well Ian. Guy i know had some work done covered the engine in overspray.

Regarding the rust on the lower windscreen pillar, had the windscreen been replaced at any time do you know?

Yes the screen was replaced 9 months ago - But this didn't cause the rust but showed the rust area that had been hidden, as it was under the rubber, when the screen was put back the rubber was in a slightly differently setting position and exposed the pending problem ...;-)

Luckily it wasn't that bad, as some I have seen on a friends car was huge..cost him £1000 just for that windscreen job !!! ( little ripped off I feel as well)

All my work - bumpers front & back, 2 shark fins, repairs to left rear wing and left screen area all sprayed...( but had to take it all part and will be putting it back together )...£700+vat

Great report or what's being done Ian (including the information you've put in the waxoyl thread). Look forward to seeing the results of the paint job. [:)]

to answer the original question, Yes - a bit is starting to appear.

I guess the 964 is getting on in years, the oldest are nearly 20, and the youngest are 15.
Imagine a 1970 911 in 1985. It was rotten - pre galvanised shells etc. We will see our cars begin to suffer and these pictures are helpful in knowing where we need to be looking.
I have a 6 months on / 6 months off rota with my 944T and 964 C2. The idea is to use the "off" spell to correct the issues. I do most DIY, except perhaps a Glass-out respray when I get the car trailered to a paint oven.
The 911 does April- Oct, so I will be Turbo'd up again in a few weeks, but I am getting used to the Beetle and think I will miss her.
Paul (Polar964) - the Bilstein HD's and H&R setup is OK, slightly hard if anything, but I still need to get over for a alignment at Centre Gravity.

Hello guys, been hovering around here for a while now checking the ins and outs of the 964 and its symtoms. I must say reading threads like this makes you learn more about the car and its bodywork.

I am in the middle of looking for a clean example 964, and all the parts mentioned previous are definately found on the cars I have seen. Putting the 964 aside, even some of the earlier 993s are going that way, as mentioned these cars are getting older. Shockingly enough, I went to see a 993 C2 in the city of London, apparently the car had been a city car, living outside all its life. Anyway, cut the story short, check few areas, rust started peeking through from stonechips on bonnet, top of the roof near windowscreen, bottom of the wing mirror, top corner of the front wing meets front scuttle and especially the side SILL!Under the paint it was brittle felt at a press of a finger, if I pressed it harder it would have gone through. Shocking!

As I am fussy with detail, every car I have seen there has been some sort of rust symtom, marks on paint, or cars that have had paint. Other 964s ive seen, rust were appearing on rear arch corner meets bumper, and top part of trim pass the door coming from the sill below as Brksy had on his. O boy! then see things like headlamps grotty, from condensation, rear lens going milky, all seals going hard and brittle, door hinges rusting, etc and the list goes on!

Anyway, I am going bonkers looking for the right car with less paint work to do myself. A perfect example, are they out there????????am I being too fussy?!

Welcome , I'm sure there are "perfect" cars out there but are there any For Sale is your issue , or you do what I did, and am doing now, buy one that is solid - I brought my one 3yrs ago ( remember they are upto 19Yrs old, and will have been used, so stone chips and odd surface rust are not an issue its a sign of a used car and air cooled engine's needs to be used not sat in a garage), then work on the car to what every level you want. Since I brought my car I have spent a lot of time and money on it ...there not cheap cars to run...and parts costs are now starting to ruining through the roof ..rang Porsche today and a door window frame is £1045+vat. Others parts are also becoming harder to get or have become obselite..the more the credit crunch bits the harder it will become to justify keep "old" part on the Stuttgart shelfs.

I picked my one up from the paint shop on Friday ..looks a great and I now have the job of putting it all together and Waxolying inside the cavities etc as I go. As the engine and suspension was rebuilt last year, and the paint job was done this year, I will have the "perfect car" ....

PS: it wont be for sale though...!! but keep looking

The small rusty specs on our 90 C4's engine bootlid were shotblasted to reveal corrosion holes[:(]just reordered a new panel from Porsche, best part of 400 quid...

Picking the old girl up again from Selbys Nottingham tommorow, rear engine lid replaced and repainted, front leading edge of bonnet(slight surface corrosion looks as if the paint had worn off??),and front p.u bumper moulding repainted (no rust there but had a couple of massive stonechips[:(])
Seem to live at the bodyshop at the minute....hope she holds up for a year or two this is getting a bit expensive......[&o]

Picked the car up today looks spanking,Selbys Notts did a mint job and turned it around super quick, needed to pop into OPC Leicester to get an "update" reinstalled in the car's memory as the battery had been disconnected and the car had "forgot" it had already had it,after they plugged it in it ran great, without the update it has a tendancy to stall/cutout....(is this normal??)No more rust for the time being anyway![:D],next job dampers but thats going to have to wait for now...
