Anyone got any Rust issues on their 964

Mark,
Good to hear you are pleased with the workmanship, interesting comment on the ECU memory, I do not know the answer, wonder if anyone does? My understanding is that when an update is written to an eprom such as is in our ECU it overwrites the existing program and is a permanent change.

All I can imagine that they did was to run what is called a "System Adaptation" with the Bosch "Hammer". As far as I know it's not usually necessary as driving the car for 20 minutes should allow the ECU to "re-learn" it's parameters. The "System Adaptation" just re-adjusts the idle speed and fuel mixture. This can, incidentally, also be done with the Scantool software.

Hope that helps.

Hi,with our C4 when we originaly got it from Specialist cars Malton,it needed update/adaption doing ,as we picked car up from Maltons showroom drove back to Leicester, car stalled really easily was irritating.... when we took it back after a week or two they did the update (i think they do it with the rear demister on for some reason??deffo remember them saying this...)car ran perfectly after this.
A few months- maybe a year! after car had battery disconnected with a battery change and it started to misbehave again,OPC leicester did the update again, problem goes away completely again.
So this time after the bodyshop i was pretty prepared to have to do the update again, our car definately forgets the update with a battery disconnetion and doesn't relearn after 20 mins...But its running fine now so we are happy![:)]

This is odd as a battery disconnect doesn't require a System Adaptation normally . The "learn't'" Engine ECU setting as part of a 20min run, will default after a battery disconnect but not the System Adaptation setting . This will need calibration( System Adaptation) when Lamba sensors etc etc are replaced . Same for the tiptronic ECU this will default when the battery is diconnected. as is has 4 maps to selct from after its worked out how you drive the car and the gear box...it quite noticable when you come off a race track onto a normal road, as the tip box is expecting more reves ..but 5miles down the road it drops back the maps. I have a Bosch Hammer so have played with the "System Adaptation" quite a lot to work out when it makes a difference or not.

Just bumping this up for James Charnley who asked about rust issues as it's a good place to start. If good is the right word!

Just seen this thread & was looking at the battery issue.

I have taken my battery out on a number of occasions to trickle charge it and never had any running problems.

When replacing a battery these days, I always connect my boost
pack to the cars battery connections to keep the car 'live' during
the transplant to avoid any ecu, immobiliser or radio resetting issues. Seams to work a treat!?
