Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

The 981 Spyder was Fantastic I can’t really advise what if anything was wrong, I just yearned for my 987. I knew I’d made a mistake before my 987 went out of view. Perhaps after so many miles across Europe in the 987 we just bonded. Everything is personal I guess, I was advised the new Boxster 718s was terrible, I was given one as a courtesy car and didn’t want to give it back? I purchased my 981 Spyder, drove it for a thousand miles and was enjoying it, I was Approached by a friend who wanted to buy it and the deal and time was right so I sold it.

That's a great love for the 987 Spyder and fully understandable having owned 2

After a Boxster 987 S 3.2 owned for 6 years from new followed by 2 987 Spyders between 2011-2016 my 981 Spyder experience has been nothing but fantastic and after a very long test drive of a 718 Spyder "A" roads, M25 & country lanes I concluded the upgrade from 981 to 718 was just not worth the then extra £25k +++ so I declined to proceed with my late 2020 build slot

This was back on Feb 1st 2020 - Fast forward to December 2020 and all the current turmoil we are living through and I was recently offered a £6k premium on my 4 year old 5k dry miles minter and after careful consideration of what could I possibly buy that could deliver the same satisfaction for my dry weather fun motoring I turned this once in a lifetime offer down No regrets and can't wait to get back out on the dry roads in the near future hopefully

OK 7k over is my final offer [:D]

What a great colour that car is, really lovely.

What you said about the 718 was very interesting. Would you say that it would be worth the £25k-£30K difference to change from the 987 Spyder to the 981?

Thanks

Here are a couple of links that might answer your question but in a word I would have to say YES[;)]

For balance , i have tried the 981 Spyder and prefer it over the 981. I would not swop even at the same price.

The 981 Spyder has a screamer of an engine. Sounding like a old formulae 1 car on full chat.

I've spoken to a few dealers and they think it's a future classic.

I am yet to hear one driven in anger in real life. Even on YouTube they sound superb. Did they do anything to the Carrera S engine when they swapped it into the Boxster Spyder 981 ?

I believe there were a few tweaks. I'll dig up video that talks about it.

This is one video:

If you check his channel, he did another video on the 981 Spyder.

Recent you tube video I saw suggests gt4 still being made but not just to order so will soon be in the showrooms to shift at list. Don’t know if true but would sort out the flippers and values. Doubt the same will apply for Spyders in the U.K.

Just took mine for a quick 30mile blast and that video nails the sound track pretty much - so addictive and so lacking in the 718 version [&:]

If you watch his 718 GT4 videos, the car he bought he in 2020, you will see the mission to get it sounding good. Ends up with JCR titanium slip on exhaust system.

Yes the trouble with the JCR is the costs £5k+ then you need to buy the car graphics remote controller circa £350 for the valves to be opened fully like the 981's are when PSE is switched "ON" unlike the 718's that only open after 4500rpm and after spending the best part of £6k for this lot fitted you don't get the scream or volume the standard 981 setup delivers for free :ROFLMAO:
