Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

No 911 will give you the thrill, sorry. And a GT3 is NOT a nice daily usable car. I tried to buy a nice daily, looked at all the 911 ended up with a m3 competition, but that only lasted 3 months. Nothing is like a Cayman R for feel, hence buying some thing just like the Spyder. The speed thing does wear off on a fast car very very quick and if that's all the car is good at, all people end up doing is modding 500bhp cars to 700bhp cars. The GTR is mind blowing fast ESP the new 560bhp one, my friend has one, but all you see is every one wanting more. The only car I can think which will thrill and have 500bhp is a ferrari f430, but they are 75k for a 8 year old car. I could sell both my cars for let's say 80k but what would I buy ? I need boot space for work. And I cannot turn upto clients in a f430 in Leicester :-(. It's crazy no one makes a great every day sports car any more with boot space, even the new cayman and Boxster don't feel sporty and as they are also slow ish. they offer nothing for me over a R. The only other car I like and great value is the r8v10 manual and if you don't need space a bargin imo. Take away the speed thing and you then go for looks and feel good, and that is a AstonN420. :) That would make a great daily. Some times it a pain owning the Spyder as every thing else feels fat and GT like lol. People slagged off the Cayman R for not being hard enough, but Porsche make a GT3 for hardcore. The R is quite a hard car and would not suit most people who want GT feel. It's the perfect road car imo and one which will do a track day stock and still feel great. My new Cayman R from my bedroom window

So for the foreseeable you do have the perfect pair [;)] Fastest road car I have ever driven and boy it did feel fast and furious was the 458 Italia[8D] My lotto winners car would have to be a 458 Spider

All good points MrD. I think i'd regret selling the Spyder and so i've decided I want a Porsche daily to run alongside it rather than replace it. Last year I was thinking of either the GTS or turbo to replace the Spyder in the future and I was leaning towards the turbo because the GTS was pretty docile outside of Sport Plus mode or caught in a high gear, so it needed working to be kept in the peak torque band (but was a real animal when it was). http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=714265&mpage=1&key=

ORIGINAL: tscaptain For me it's not about top speed but 30-70 acceleration. GTS/Spyder not in the same ball park I'm afraid! I have to admit to beefing up the ARB's front and rear on mine which make it that much better than the stock car through the bendy bits. Just a footnote about the PDK though. You can still very easily redline if using paddles/buttons under "sporty" acceleration[:)]
To echo your point, if this is the difference between a 997.1 manual turbo and a 997.2 PDK turbo, for overtaking etc. you can never have too much power/torque and WILL make use of it [:D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyyrWbrgl8c I think a test drive in a turbo will clinch it. The GTS was very fast, but when caught in the wrong gear (blaming the PDK 'economy' mode) it was pretty docile until getting back into it's power band. In sport and sport plus mode there were no complaints. I'm hoping/expecting the turbo to address that with its much wider torque band, as I don't like driving PDK in sport or sport plus mode all the time (same would go for tiptronic on a gen 1 in sport mode). I still think these gen 1 turbo's are the bargain supercar of the moment, but i'm going to test both it and a gen 2 PDK and then decide whether to hang on for a PDK. As I say, it's a couple of years away but I like to plan way in advance [:)] Thanks
I agree that the pursuit of power knows no bounds & you'll get used to whatever dose you're getting after a while. I also agree that I think i'm better off having 2 cars rather than putting my funds into one. I wouldn't want an old Ferrari as my only car.

Who said Spyder and GTS not in the same ball park 30-70mph ? Think the gts owner would get a shock, yes the gts would win, but it would be so close in that range. Gts is nothing but a C2s parts bin end of run, yes a nice run out model but nothing exciting and not as fast as 400bhp should be. Again my Audi TTRS killed the GtS at vmax by miles. Above 90mph the GTS would walk away, BHP always does. But 30-70 nope they would be close. And on track the GTS would be left wanting. When I had the GTS I was expecting a dulled down GT3, so hence I was disappointed driving it for real. I also don't think 997.1 turbos are a bargin either, 45k for a 7 year old car which now shows it age vs the 997.2 cars.

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=714265&mpage=1&key= That quote was taken out of context. In the originating thread, which was about "GTS or turbo" he was saying the spyder & gts are not in the ball park of the turbo

Hey guys! So .... following on from a previous thread, here I am. I'm currently on the look out for a Spyder. I used to have a Cayman S (Gen1) and it was a fantastic car, but I missed the raw feel of my previous Elise R. So sold the Cayman for an Elise SC. Again, great car, but missed the mechanical precision of the Porsche. I had a Red Spyder as a loan car a while back and it really blew me away. Actually felt like an Elise by Porsche, but £55k at the time was too much. But, now we're starting to see private cars go in the mid-£30's, it's hitting the sweet spot for me. As mentioned in another thread, I missed out on a white car in PHs. Gutted, but now on the hunt and looking for the following: Essentials for me are: Manual White/Black/Platinum Black interior Spyder Wheels Buckets Climate Control (or just A/C) - went to Stelvio roof off the Elise & thank god I had A/C!! So, yes a must-have. Re-sale too FPSH PCM or CDR30 Nice to haves are: PSE Short Shift Sports Chrono Rear Park Assist Warranty I'm in no rush, but eager to find the right car. So anything you can do to help would be fantastic!!

All that for mid 30's If I put mine for sale it would be mid 40's :). That,'s not even a joke. The Bristol car is the only OPC car for sale with buckets.

I'm with demon. You need to check out this thread from the start! The car you want is not mid 30s currently. Mine is your perfect spec apart from sports shift and that is (unnecessary but) a cheap retro-fit. I'd entertain a serious bid but £35k wouldn't secure it!

my car is also the perfect spec you are looking for and one of the last ever built but i wouldnt entertain less than £45k+ so one in your spec is going to cost

just to show you guys my Cayman R is now posted at the top of the page, it's bright lol but if you missed it

Blend's in nicely with the foliage ...... Jason welcome to the correct part of the forum[;)] I have a Red one with the spec you are looking for but like the rest of the guys on this site would not be selling at anything under the mid £40K .We wish you luck in your search and keep us all posted as to your search . Hi Jason. Welcome to the inner sanctum of the Boxster register - the Spyders' Web[:D] You may not have been expecting so many to rebuff your expectation of what to pay, but there has been significant change in the Spyder market in the last 7 months. A year ago, Spyders were a bit of an unknown quantity but since then, people have been waking up to Spyders, demand has gone into a bit of a frenzy and the values have firmed up. As you found with having one as a loan car (and I too came from a Gen 1 Cayman S) the drive, (as well as the looks) set it apart. We don't quite know where the values will plateau yet, hence the personal evaluations. However, we have seen the values of these cars hold firm despite being a year older and carrying more mileage. As others have heard me say before, I paid less for mine from an OPC with under 4K miles a year ago, than what is being asked for now, for Spyders with around 10K miles. The two red devils on here[;)] who bought most recently and with only 1500 miles on each car, must surely now feel comfortable about what they paid, given what they see cars commanding now. We've also debated a lot about bucket seats vs sports seats - the availability of each and the demand for each and whether it affects the price. But the fact is, right now there are very few cars with buckets available and the asking price of the Bristol car presents no surprises to us, alongside the others for sale. Hence we don't expect you to see many decent Spyders for mid 30's, nor would we let ours go for that (partly because prices are on the up and partly because it'd be so hard to find one's perfect spec again and partly because a Spyder is hard to top - what other modern Porsche drives so well, looks so exotic and is so exclusive at £40K. That said, you will see the odd car for sale at a lower price than the others - just depends on the situation of the seller. E.g. the car at PC Solihull is a steal of it ticks the right boxes for someone (I know it doesn't fit your spec). Or you might see a car with higher than typical miles for a Spyder. So, don't give up if mid-30's is your limit, but you won't be able to be choosy, and be prepared to move fast. Here's a summary for you of the last 130 pages [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=1]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=1[/link] (all the early reviews) [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=38]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=38[/link] (amongst other things there are many reviews in amongst the pics. Also my personal ramblings after driving 981 Boxster and Cayman R) [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=58]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=58[/link] (nice pics[:)]) [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=110]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=110[/link] (981 Cayman feels a bit like a Spyder to drive) [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=118]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=719756&mpage=118[/link] (recent discussion on sports seats vs bucket seats) I will have no doubt missed plenty, so if anything springs to mind Spydermen, please post them up so that new readers can catch up [:)] Also, if you don't mind, which car did you just miss out on and what was the asking price? It all helps to build the market picture. Thanks[:)]
