It's hard to say. It felt quick enough but then was that because I wasn't used to it and therefore it was less confidence inspiring at speed so felt fast. Then looking at the figures, it's not that fast. The engine revved up sweetly. I think ultimately it will come down to how weight is flung around and that is more neutral in a mid-engined car. I probably won't ever drive another F-Type so won't ever be able to definitively conclude. I was talking to a lady at the club meeting last night. She said it looked like an XK at the front and and alfa at the back. I said you're not the only one to think that. So, whilst it's a good looking car, some may be feeling it isn't very original, especially if they are traditional Jag fans. I find it hard to have an opinion on it because it's not my kind of car. So for me I think it looks great and is a great alternative to an SLK or Audi Cab etc. It's no less exciting than those, I guess, and I think it isn't wise to aim it at Porsche (but then that is probably more the press) because the Porsche is a different kind of car. Also, because is covers both the Boxster and 911 in its positioning across it's models it risks falling short in segments rather than one. But then as I said, I don't think Porsches are it's competing product. It's a good effort though considering it's the first iteration from a blank sheet of paper. If it was the type of car I was in the market for I wouldn't hesitate.ORIGINAL: daro911 Flat6 as you have driven the F Type how does it feel against the 981 [][/color]

I know what you mean MrD. I tell people it's a Spyder but if they want to know more about the car then ultimately "Boxster" slips into the conversation as you can't really deny it's a Boxster (not that I try to) otherwise you're denying 95% of the car! I've left my full badge on. There is a quirky something about the longer the badge on a Porsche the more unique a model it is LoL. They stopped short of trying it with the "turbo S Edition 918 Spyder" though [ORIGINAL: MrDemon I keep changing my mind about the rear badge I wish is was not called a Boxster but it is, so therefore taking Boxster away does help when people ask what it is and you quote "Porsche Spyder" but then you are sort of lying and not wanting to call it a Boxster lol

To those who have removed the Boxster script from the rear of the car - Does it not kinda give the game away when you open the door and see Boxster Spyder? Or are you going to have the Boxster Script removed from both sides just leaving Spyder?ORIGINAL: daro911What a brilliant idea flat6 [8D] until you ask for a price £66.99 plus VAT [ORIGINAL: flat6 The 'Boxster Spyder' sticker on the door sill would make a good candidate for a rear badge replacement sticker... No will keep the script in tact inside the door sills ...not really trying to say its not a Boxster i just think it looks neater on the rear boot lid .I hate all that chrome PORSCHE stickers on the new 981 and would get rid of it everyone knows its a Porsche but not everyone who see's a Spyder know its a Boxster they think it is a special ....which we all know is true [ORIGINAL: jdpef356To those who have removed the Boxster script from the rear of the car - Does it not kinda give the game away when you open the door and see Boxster Spyder? I am on my 6th Boxster since 1997 and have no issues with the model at all I just find the rear deck lid looks far too crowded with the full monty where as the door sills look perfectly balanced with both I had 2 years of great fun when people had to ask me what model Porsche was it (having seen the side stripe)[ORIGINAL: jdpef356 The 'Boxster Spyder' sticker on the door sill would make a good candidate for a rear badge replacement sticker... Depends , there are loads of lotus models, ranging right down at 135bhp with a tiny 118 lb/ft To 260bhp super charged cars with cut slicks and Ohlins as standard. The 1st would not see which way the Spyder went, the later would be down to driver skill. The balance of the Spyder is spot on though and the over sized 6 pot PCCB in a car only weighing 1250kg with my race maxx tyres on would be hard to out brake in any car. The Spyder gets messy on the super tight hairpins, ( with psm off my traction light was still flashing) but the faster bends you just bottle out before the car does and by a long way I think, I am either getting old and losing bottle or not as fast as I used to be. Both I would guess. If I did loads of track days I would still get a Lotus Exige 260 cup, running costs would be half that of the Spyder. Give both to a pro and the Spyder would lap quicker on all but the smaller tighter tracks I would say than the top Lotus. But it's a close run thing and 100% driver between a few seconds on a Exige 260 and a Spyder. Of course they how have the new all singing v6 Exige which to all accounts will be faster on track than most things. But that's 60k has 345bhp is super charged and only weights 1100kg with trick tyres and a trick race mode setting.ORIGINAL: flat6How does the Spyder compare on track to the Lotus?ORIGINAL: MrDemon lets have a Spyder pic for the new page![]()
OK that's the track view what about getting to the track ... which is more road user fun/friendly [ORIGINAL: MrDemonDepends , there are loads of lotus models, ranging right down at 135bhp with a tiny 118 lb/ft To 260bhp super charged cars with cut slicks and Ohlins as standard. Thanks. Gives me a good idea of where the car slots in amongst the competition. Sounds very good for a car that is less of a sacrifice than the Lotus in terms of narrow focus. You're also making me want PCCB's if I ever needed to change my Spyder. I'm very heavy on brakes and got through the front pads before robK on the same mileage. I can't see spending any money to uprate this car but it may well be on my list if I was to buy another.
Fun , well both the same, user friendly, I guess it depends again what you buy, the later Lotus roof is better and as a Targa design (as I stated) less windy, it showered on the way down, I had no roof on the rain goes up the windscreen then onto the side window till halfway, then dumps water on your right shoulder, so you DO get wet roof off, if it rained harder you would get water in your eyes as it flies off the side window. It also does less Mpg and mine has no radio, AC etc the Lotus is hard to get in and out of. I see my Spyder as a bigger Elise, but with more BHp and better built. I think the brand new Elise SC car is a cracking little car at 40k, I guess you buy which you like the looks of out the 2.ORIGINAL: daro911OK that's the track view what about getting to the track ... which is more road user fun/friendly [ORIGINAL: MrDemon Depends , there are loads of lotus models, ranging right down at 135bhp with a tiny 118 lb/ft To 260bhp super charged cars with cut slicks and Ohlins as standard. You've made a case for me to move Cream White above black in my order of preference of the Spyder colours, which is now White Red Aqua Blue Silver Cream White Black But not sure i'd go through with it and get a Cream car! Can't find any decent pics of a Cream White car now that www.dspyda.com has been taken down.ORIGINAL: MrDemon looks flat to me. car def does not work in black. No one noticed the Black Spyder at the Piston heads meet. I like black cars my last 4 cars were black, which as you all know is a pain to keep clean. but to me and many many others, it just makes the Spyder blend in to look like a normal Boxter.

Apart from the strange fact this cream car is RHD![&o] with bumperettes![ORIGINAL: flat6 You've made a case for me to move Cream White above black in my order of preference of the Spyder colours, which is now White Red Aqua Blue Silver Cream White Black But not sure i'd go through with it and get a Cream car! Spooky - we're talking about Lotus and this has just popped into my inbox. I've always liked the Elise and Exige but I just don't get the Evora. Looks like a Tesla, is expensive, is bigger for no apparent benefit as the rear seats are inaccessible if you opt for them. Who is this car for???????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WYvr38OOAOE
