Didn't really manage dry or cruising [] My word, Spyders can fly when the opportunity arises!
What a brilliantly spontaneous thing to do! A great way to start the new year! Yeah count me in when you're doing a pre-planned one[] We'll have to get CB radios like in Smokey & The Bandit[] Ok ok, the car phones will do[]ORIGINAL: rob.kellock H A P P Y N E W Y E A R S P Y D E R L O V E R S! Who'd have thought we'd nearly make 9000 hits by the year end? After Flat6's epic piece of work, I thought it was about time we moved on to the practical session. I have a confession to make. Apologies for:- 1) An act of reckless spontaneity 2) Not taking any decent photos 3) Keeping the roof up 4) Getting my Spyder dirty and 5) Enjoying the best possible start to 2013! So, at 1am this morning, my (sober) neighbour and I agreed to get up for a borderline indecent 8am departure and do the Evo Triangle. Whilst all the revellers slept off their hangovers, joyous empty roads and barely any rain combined to provide an adrenaline hit that is hard to rival. We departed 3 minutes ahead of schedule and including a fuel stop, a couple of brief chats and a "comfort break" at the services, we covered 205 miles in (ahem) 3 hours and 20 minutes. Our route was (from junction 29) M6, M56, A494 to Ruthin, B5105 to the triangle: A5, A453, B4501, then back home via Ruthin the other way - A5, A494, M56, M6. If we even saw a dozen cars from Ruthin to Ruthin I'd be surprised. Much flashing of lights from a silver 996 cab - but he was going the other way, smiling and and waving so that was OK. Roads were wet and slippery in places so particular credit to Gerald's immaculate 1988 911 3.2 Carrera Supersport for keeping up! Flat6, I promise I'll tell you in advance next time []O

Had to laugh at this one because although not Spyder related....we did exactly the same thing on Dec 28th ! Got fed up of looking at immaculate (unused) cars in the garage so departed at 8am for a 190 mile hoon around Yorkshire dales / Lakes It was very wet, foggy in places but very light traffic and most importantly, excellent fun !
Right, back to Spyders...
I'm slightly disappointed that you or Rob didn't praise me for the cleanliness of the inside of my wheels or indeed the inside of the wheel arch as shown in the photo in the dark at the petrol station before we set off! I have to say it was a wonderful thing to do, I know some of the other roads local to the area that also demand further exploration and plenty of photostops so I've plenty of excuses for another trip.
Rob you are correct with your cleanliness claims and I was expecting to see far dirtier looking Porsche's than your pictures showed unless you took that at first light [] OK here is one I prepared earlier for you to replicate [&o]ORIGINAL: rob.kellock I'm slightly disappointed that you or Rob didn't praise me for the cleanliness of the inside of my wheels or indeed the inside of the wheel arch as shown in the photo in the dark at the petrol station before we set off!

You are a hard task master [] Car stayed surprisingly clean, I was expecting far worse too. The shots at the service station in full light were 50 motorway miles from home.ORIGINAL: daro911 Rob you are correct with your cleanliness claims and I was expecting to see far dirtier looking Porsche's than your pictures showed unless you took that at first light []  OK here is one I prepared earlier for you to replicate [&o]
Good on ya[] I'm admiring the Exige in your pic. I'm curious. What do Lotus drivers think of Porsche in general? Here we have a Exige 240R 911 GTS and of course a Spyder [] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgFeAYWLSSk Published on 13 Jun 2012 Track day race. Lotus left early because was running low on gas. Then I catched and kept the pace with the GTS but I could´t overtake him. Last turn I pushed too hard. Spyder has incredible handling as it was faster on the corners than the GTS and was as good as the racing Lotus Exige 240 R. Sorry about the quality, it was recorded with a smartphone.
Silverstone has another car Mileage: 5,123 m Registration Year: 03/11 Transmission: Automatic Colour: Carrara White Colour (interior): Black leatherette and alcantara seats 19-inch Boxster Spyder Wheel CDR-30 Audio System Floor mats Fully automatic climate control Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) Sound Package Plus including CD storage Sport Chrono Package Sports Bucket Seats Sports exhaust system Telephone module for PCM Three-spoke sports steering wheel with paddles Universal audio interface Wheels painted in Black Price: £ 39,850 (John really should take the Wilmslow car shouldn't he[]. Glasgow doesn't have seat heaters I believe) I need to go and decide whether I want manual or PDK for my long term keeper...
And it's now past 9000 hits. I think there's more Spyder activity on here than www.dspyda.com [] Who's been buying up all the Spyders over the last 2 years? I guess the Spyder is the only one getting a look-in in their circles then [8D]ORIGINAL: OggyToo heavy []ORIGINAL: flat6 I'm admiring the Exige in your pic. I'm curious. What do Lotus drivers think of Porsche in general?
Good find mate. I think a lot of the buyers must be coming from outside the typical Porsche circles. Collectors for one, but also buyers for whom the lightweight roof wouldn't be as unappealing as to others. So I thought Lotus. Then had a little look to what VX220 drivers think, but ended up here[&:] http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=921953ORIGINAL: daro911 Here we have a Exige 240R 911 GTS and of course a Spyder [] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgFeAYWLSSk
I agree, it was a good find. So is the Spyder slower than a Carrera GTS or, as F1 commentators like to say - catching up is the easy part, overtaking is the hard part!
I thought we could start the new year with a caption competition. Here's your starter:-

daro911, the brochure says that the 19 inch Fuchs wheels are: 8½J x 19, ET 56 (front), 10,5 kg 11 J x 19, ET 51 (rear), 11,5 kg The Boxster Spyder Wheel is 8.5in ET55 9.7 kg front 10in ET42 10.6 kg rear So, the Boxster Spyder wheel is lighter, but how will rob.kellock[] get the Fuchs to fit? Is it spacers and longer bolts - i've never looked at offsets and all that stuff[&:]? The brochure says 'modifications to the vehicle' is required.ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Loving those wheels, fabulous.
