Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

He definitely needs another Spyder in his showroom which would be circa no.14 (I think) for the up and coming season that's for sure[8D] And as we have probably converted more lurkers and Spyder web cruisers into becoming actual Spyder owners this has to be the place to pop into for the best Spyder related info any where on the entire interweb today[] New Page New PicORIGINAL: MrDemon Tom at 911v is always keeping an eye on us Seems to be moving a shed load of cars , stock getting very low for spring.

Let's hope the Spyder goes the same way. It doesn't have the racing pedigree nor the ultra low production numbers but hopefully low enough and it's making a name for itself as a driver's car without being related to race car development. When will Porsche launch a Cayman race car series. It'd make a great formula. They could do like Caterham do and offer budget classes or they could take it all the way (which they obviously won't for now).ORIGINAL: daro911 33 years and 7k miles later this is what a very limited edition Porsche is retailing for and it's a fatboy exampe with all the added extras![][] Porsche wanted to enter the Group 4 sports car class at Le Mans in 1980 and base a car on their successful 924 mainstream model. Accordingly they had to homologate 400 road cars with all upgrades which included a turbo charged engine, close ratio 5 speed gearbox, limited slip differential, wider wheel arches, bigger brakes, larger wheels and tyres, extra cooling ducts etc. In 1981 they made a total of 406 (including 6 prototypes) 924 'Carrera GT' variants with just 75 right hand drive cars produced, internally designated by Porsche as type 938. The car was a 150mph pocket rocket with over 210bhp/203 lbs/ft of torque on tap and sublime handling to match, due to a 49/51 weight distribution and its racing pedigree is underlined tipping the scales at just 1180Kg and benefits from a 0-60mph time of just 6.5s. This car was first registered in March 1981 and has had just 4 owners, most famously being part of the famous Patrick Collection in Birmingham where the car was on display for over 15 years. All previous M.O.T's and a comprehensive service history confirm that the car has covered just over 7,000 miles from new. Maintained to the highest standards, with cambelt change and service all up to date. A Certificate of Authenticity is enclosed with the car, that clarifies original engine is numbers matching, and the following factory options • Electric/heated door mirrors • Headlamp washers • Rear Wiper • Leather four spoke steering wheel • Electric Aerial and speakers • Electric Sunroof • Electric windows • Not waxed A winner of several Porsche GB Concours competitions and a car with known provenance, the history makes it an absolute rock solid investment. I can find out most things about them except the original price![&o] Front engined, 1983cc watercooled in-line four cylinder Five speed manual, RWD 210hp @ 6,250rpm, 203lb/ft torque @ 3,000rpm 1,180kg kerbweight 0-60 6.7 seconds, top speed 150mph Technical summary The CGT uses a turbocharged version of the 924's 1984cc engine with an intercooler. A normally aspirated 924 makes 125bhp, the type 931 turbo 175bhp, and the addition of an intercooler brings the CGT up to 210bhp. Apart from lighter pistons, most of the engine internals are common to the 931, which itself shares the majority of its parts with the 924. Where 924 or 931 parts are not used, parts from the 911 are often employed. The CGT's 210 BHP goes through a 911 clutch plate, a 931 torque tube and transaxle (strengthened using 911 syncromesh rings), to 911 Fuchs wheels. Externally the 937 is similar to a 931, but with wider polyeurethane wings at the front and rear, and a polyeurethane hood scoop. These, slightly lowered suspension, and the Fuchs alloys give the 937 a much more purposeful stance than a standard 924 or a 931. Inside the cabin the CGT is surprisingly comfortable, with electric mirrors and windows, and A/C and a large lift out sunroof (UK models only) as options. I mean, I like it but... jeez, £80k!! I'm not keeping my Spyder another 29 years and doing minus 14000 miles in it! Racing pedigree and ultra low production numbers do generally add a few quid though and the Spyder will never have neither unfortunately although production numbers are low enough for it to remain rare and collectable. I can see some of us posting on here in 30 years time - a bunch of geriatrics using a very large font - remembering the day when we had one of them Spyders, now retailing at a million pounds for a concours example, used only on national classic car days due to pollution laws...ORIGINAL: flat6 Let's hope the Spyder goes the same way.
