Nice summary flat6 but where does that leave the 62k miler in your view [&o]ORIGINAL: flat6 As billy1 said a few pages back, those who drive them get a better return in miles per pound than those who try to keep the miles down to mantain the value. The low mileage cars are inevitably worth more but the higher mileage cars are not disproportionately less from what we've seen. A car with 'reasonable' miles is worth mid £30s all day long. A car with low miles is worth higher £30s. A car with very low miles and a rare spec / rare colour fetch over £40K to the right buyer. But the cars bought for say approaching mid £40Ks could be easily turned into a £38K car by enjoying it for a few thousand miles, whilst a car with 12K miles, enjoy a few thousand more miles in it and its still a mid £30s car - heading to free motoring if you're lucky[]

Just want to say thank you for all the kind messages. I will be keeping an eye on on the thread and hopefully be back soon to start the search again! Phil
The way I see it Daro, if that 31K miles red car sold for about £31K and that was about right and a 8K miles pristine car sells at an OPC for about £40K, that's a £9K difference in value. The 60K miler has ~8 times the mileage of the OPC car and the pic show its paintwork is terrible. I don't know what it's worth but at £27.5K it doesn't seem a great saving over a 31K mile car which will be in much better condition and won't need any work doing to make it presentable at Club events[]. Why buy it and spend the saving on a respray when for a little more you can get a car that doesn't need a respray and you can't paint over the mileage on the mechanicals[8|] At the end of the day some opinions are that the car represents a bargain for someone but who is that someone? Anyone on here willing to get their cheque book out? Or is it only good enough for that arbitrary 'someone else'?[8|] I'm only being honest when I say I wouldn't buy it at any price and would buy a different car so I can't really put a value on it. At £27.5K the CatD car is probably a better buy as a mainly pristine low mileage car with a light front end repair[:-] (not that I'd buy it either).
I agree Forums do my head in when people say "if I had the money I would buy that" One of the worlds forums stupid statements seen time and time again. Of course it has a value and imo it will sell for more then it's worth. But I don't own cars over 40k as a rule. People buy gt3 for 5k less than the going rate but then throw 12k at them ? People will not buy a perfect gt3 at 45k as they see it as over priced. That was my finding when looking and selling mine. So just being 27k makes people look at it will prob sell. The car will def not feel as good as a 8k mile car, but to some one test driving it coming from a 10 year old corsa it will feel great. Fit, shocks, clutch, diff, steering rack, all bushs, some paint work, a caliper over haul, then look at disks, pads and tyres to see if they need doing or not. I would also bet on a few small items when car is on the ramp also as I guess it mush have been a winter used car with those miles. And you still end up with a 60k mile engine after that spend, it's just not worth it. Makes a 30k miles one at 31k seem good value. I guess you could buy it at 25k and just fit a new set of shocks and then replace other items as and when they feel on the way out. But my gt3 had all that work done at 27k miles and was not a tracked car.
I think you are correct with who will buy this car I happened to have an IT engineer in my office yesterday and he was admiring my Porsche pictures and said his brother has had 911's for years but is bored with his current 991 and as its a weekend car he is looking to get back into one of his favourites he should never have sold a 993. The engineer explained how he could never afford a Porsche but he thought my Spyder was stunning and would tell his brother etc. When I told him about the 60k miler he said he wouldn't hesitate in buying that if he had the money and the mileage didn't phase him at all [&o] So I think your theory who would buy a 62k mile Spyder has a lot of mileage in it [][]ORIGINAL: MrDemon So just being 27k makes people look at it will prob sell. Not a very good outlook to have, I never say never and even at school wanted a Ferrari, it's only the attitude in the UK stopping me buying my dream car as I would loose clients and get even more shitty comments than I do already driving a Porsche. I am a I.T eng and do ok praise the lord mind you but again it's this comment which is flawed "he wouldn't hesitate in buying that if he had the money" As I said the most common of comments which if they did have the money they prob would not buy it still and go and buy a Focus RS or some thing.I happened to have an IT engineer in my office yesterday , The engineer explained how he could never afford a Porsche
He works for a small outfit where as I believe you are the outfit ;-) I think he might be a buyer if he had the money because his brother has been a Porsche owner forever and a day and he probably would like to join that club too On the other hand you maybe right again [][][]ORIGINAL: MrDemon I am a I.T eng and do ok praise the lord mind you As I said the most common of comments which if they did have the money they prob would not buy it still and go and buy a Focus RS or some thing.
I worked for a small outfit on 20k also at one time, then thought, why earn the boss this money when I could do this myself. Or if it's that small an outfit, buy the company later in life, that was my plan and I started to get shares in the "small outfit" to one day buying it out. But things got messy in the company , so I jumped ship early and started on my own. I now have to ask myself for a payrise but I said I cannot have one, tight boss. I might go on strike or become a teacher I knew I should have taken my dads advice and gone into the police, I could have retired next year at 45 on a 35k pension !!!! o well only another 22 years of work to do. not that I am wishing my life away of course, it's to short as it is.
One of life's great ironies - the "freedom" of being self employed and being your own boss. Save you want to be first in last out every day, you earn nothing when you are on holiday and have to create your own pension fund. Legal aid rates for preparation have just been cut to £45 an hour and cuts to the police budgets mean fewer customers at court... Try telling that to the OPC when the car needs service!
I know, every one things self employed is great, but no holidays and no pension are issues now getting more serious now I am 44. Does my head in public sector people striking because they want a high pension or it,s been frozen a few k. And yes I would be miffed as people join the public sector for a jolly, lol But public sector workers have been taking the piss for ages, wecome to the real world. Not that I think they still have a clue about the real world mind you ! I lived with a teacher for 3 years and then went out with another one, it's a jolly I tell you Ps never go out with a teacher . PPS on the plus side they will be home before you so should be able to get the dinner on My other mate is 45 retired and gets 35k pension and then says how can he live on 35k , if it were not a friend I would punch him ..... I would give up work tomorrow if some one said here is 35k a year for life now go have have fun.
My wife is a teacher... [][][]
I'd have the high miler over the Cat D car - over time the mileage will seem less extreme (unless the car is continued to be used more often than most) but the Cat D car will always be Cat D. Don't forget that underneath a Spyder is just a Boxster S and there are plenty of those that have easily done 100k+. So it's hardly value-less. If you really want a Spyder but your budget is £30k you don't have any other choice! I fear that the Spyder will suffer Ferrari syndrome where the average mileage of the cars for sale is sufficiently low that owners are scared to use their cars (which doesn't happen with your normal Boxster - which is bought specifically it is so practical and can "take" the miles). So let's keep on driving our cars!ORIGINAL: flat6 I'm only being honest when I say I wouldn't buy it at any price and would buy a different car so I can't really put a value on it. You make some good points billy - what mileage has yours done? Mine is on 21000 but will be doing 500 more this weekend. brian, what can I say? - I lived in Leicestershire for 4 years but I'm pretty sure my wife never has! So much wrong... [][][]
Carry on living in your bubble MrD. A teacher earns £30k as full time childcare for 30 kids. They deserve every penny, and why shouldn't they strike to protect their pension? My wife puts in 12-14 hour days. In at 7.45, regularly never gets a break yet alone lunch as they call a meeting and eat while working. Often still planning and marking at 10pm. All for 30k and a pretty pitiful pension. Good job I have one of the best final salary schemes still in existence - before you ask I'd happily strike to protect it. Might be a few airport delays if we do.ORIGINAL: MrDemon I know, every one things self employed is great, but no holidays and no pension are issues now getting more serious now I am 44. Sorry to see you leaving so soon ....what's on the menu next and how much will your 12k miler be up for[]ORIGINAL: VvrooomM Cherished plate transfer posted today, the beginning of the end for me. Another 12k miler, buckets, PDK, Spyder alloys plus lots of spec with warranty for sale in 7 days or so.
