I am going to test drive a car and might have to buy it !!!! Passive dampers Ceramic brakes hydraulic steering a real diff bucket seats NA engine I have been pondering a while for a change not because the R is not perfect, just because I get board and now done 20k miles in the R the Spyders staying I need one of those 2 cars in my life. but I thought to my self what can I buy which has all the above but a bit more poke than my R ? (Ok a lot more poke) No Porsche has all that, now, the Turbo's always feels a dull 1 trick pony the lambo and Ferrari's cost too much to run and are in your face and all have electrics now. but this car has slipped in with out too much fuss, but yet has mega reviews, was in evo car of the year, and I did not even know it had passive dampers and ofcourse now steers better than any new Porsche., for those still thinking what is this old school car ? ok more clues, V10 0-60 in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 197mph I have driven the base V8 and the V10 before, but this "plus" is said to be "the best of the lot" it's the R8 v10 Plus and for a 130k car it's now £89k seems a bargin !!! and still all old school but at the top of the old school game but with now Passive sports dampers but the trick DSG. what's not to like ? super car performance old school drive can use every day and ok to service. looking forward to testing the car next week, I have done the vip R8 day and the V8 was a bit lacking and while I loved the v10 it was not quite focused enough, lets hope the Plus is all that :) now white or the ltd ed matt Blue ?

Hi Cliff I went yesterday and have done my back in from sitting in all my dream garage classic queens at the auction and can confirm if I won the lottery tomorrow the thrill is gone and I wouldn't be a classic car buyer[&o] 246 Dino unreal driving position in it's fixed rake seat which was way to reclined for my tastes today 3.8 4.2 V12 E Type (as a past owner of a 4.2 & V12) clutch and gearbox like a truck steering wheel fit for a cruise ship and seats that well less said the better 328 GTS seats clutch gears all so yesterday and best left at that My first ever Porsche experience 911 2.4S no longer on my wish list, moving along 3.2 80's Carrera's just good reminders why I sold my Speedster, but the 993 still feels modern and acceptable as I would go today for an old school air cooled 911 Enjoy the day it's a great event although I must confess it killed my dream machine classic collection stone dead[&o]

ORIGINAL: Tracy Wilkins Fair point about shocks maybe. Clutch not needed its a pdk [;)]
o yes , as it's sealed unit you will need a whole new gearbox at 100k so the cars close to 1/2 way though it's life cycle already !!!! sort of joking but there is a point hidden in there some where, one day it will wear out and it's going to cost a lot. sort of ruins the PDK Spyder being a classic in 20 years time......... could end up being a lemon....with high miles cars needing a full new gearbox and PDK unit.
Porsche say gearbox and clutches will last the lifetime of the car whatever that means exactly. 20 years from now when the cars are worth circa £80k[:D] if the box needed work, which according to Porsche it shouldn't do, it will be a small price to pay in the bigger picture of things
Some would buy a higher mileage car and if not using it much, over time the average mileage will have come down. But for me, I would be more making my decision on the mileage already done. I agree with MrD, although I don't know the lifespan of all the mechanicals, but I'd want to put decent miles on the car myself so wouldn't want to start high. It's also things like the tiredness of the interior, paintwork and wheels. OK, some of those can be rectified. I bought my Cayman on 30k miles. Looked very tidy. But by the time I had taken it to 46k miles the wear on the leather on the seat bolster really bugged me. As for PDK, it is clearly proven to be robust, but its not a worry for those who turn their cars over every 3 years or so. It is yet to be seen how these things hold up at 20 years old and whether people dare buy them if they have proven to be temperamental old age. For now it looks good for PDK though. If a Spyder is worth good money in the future it might be less of a worry compared to the value of the car. But a PDK on a standard Boxster that might be worth £6k at 20 yrs old, if a few PDK's have gone pop, people might not want to risk buying a £6k car carrying a very expensive transmission. Who knows.

ORIGINAL: clubsport Nice theory......but I do recall cars being a little cheaper earlier in the year (excel pricing and ads from the time)....don't forget, Spyder prices have mostly fallen (as you would expect) from new and bounced a little from what could now (in hindsight) be seen as a low! You also need to consider some owners don't necessarily have the enthusiasm and knowledge of most on here, if they are selling most dealers will pay book.....I would expect Spyders to trade mostly over book, partly based on the scarcity of transactions. Also, with low rates and recent all time highs in stock markets, desirable sports and classic cars have performed reasonably well. I am a fan of The Spyder, I do however find some of the pricing comments amusing, if you were that interested in appreciation you could have bought an aircooled car, maybe even an RS [;)]
I do agree that some overly-ambitious values have been stated on here, but putting that aside, the sticker price of Spyders has gone up year on year and yet selling quicker and quicker. That is fact. We've looked at it before but it is too far back to know where to find it. A year ago, a sticker price for a Spyder of £42 to £44K was unheard of, even at an OPC (except 4 years ago when they were very new - yes they dropped from there). The year before it was about £39K tops for an OPC Spyder. And this wasn't around summer time. I know what I paid for my own Spyder at an OPC back in 2012 with 3600 miles. Today there are 2 OPC Spyders with 15K miles and 29K miles and they are asking a lot more than I paid, for a car that is now 2 years older and with a lot more miles than when I bought mine. That is fact. I agree that £50K Spyders is a dream.

Be 50k soon enough if people keep asking daft 150k prices for the RS cars and this just drags the market up. Makes the Spyder at 50k seem very cheap over a 150k RS If the higher miles ones go up 5k to 40k that leaves low mile examples easy 50k + Even Cayman R OPC prices have risen in the last 12 months Cannot ever see my Spyder being cheaper than my buy price 2.5 years ago. Which is great news. Only thing which will bring all these cars down is high interest rates, I only choose to buy and keep cars because money in the bank is doing nothing. When rates were 6% on savings I had cheaper cars and more money in the bank giving me £400 a month interest. If your cars dropping in price and you are not earning £400 a month interest ( as your money tied up in cars) running a car gets expensive. When cars are stable and you earn £0.50p interest may as well enjoy cars, it's better and more fun than money in the bank.

The thing with the effect of mileage on price is that it is pulling the price of the higher mileage cars up because as the cars become more sought after, the effect of mileage on price seems to diminish. But whether that proportionally pushes up the price of lower mileage cars I don't know. I think the price of lower and higher mileage cars is getting closer together. I.e. the depreciation per mile is getting less.

Yes the stripes have more effect than they ought to. I put the script type decals on the Cayman but the P O R S C H E script on the Spyder and R is way more effective IMHO. Thought about putting the turbo script decal on the turbo but decided against it.
