Still think this car was, and will turn out to be very good value for money, particularly if it is purchased as a "sunny day car". 40k miles is not much if the new owner slows the rate of new miles.
 
it would have to slow a LOT imho if you look at the best prices for "rare" or desirable spec porsche then these are usually those with below 50k miles and it wont be long before this car is past that milestone. not saying I agree with it but that does seem to be the case[:eek:]
 
agree it's way to expensive for a 41k mile car, that's 4 x the use of any of the cars we all own lol most cars seems to do 2 to 3k PA with a Spyder so to get this one back to normal Spyder use is going to take a VERY long time. say I do 3k PA and most Spyder are sitting at 10k , the black Spyders does 1k PA on 41k, it's going to take another 15ish years when we are both at 55k miles !!!! and that's my car at 10k miles and 3k use PA, we have many Spyders here at 1/2 those miles and half that use, so it would take 30 to 40 years to get level !!! PS drove the R8 v10 Plus for 1 hour today, it's mindblowing fast above 6k the steering and new Passive damper set up is far better than any new Porsche system.(for feel and enjoyment) But it lacks the WOW I have just spent 90k factor at normal speeds, very bland inside and the DSG brings home in normal driving how dull Auto cars are to drive even in manual mode. drive it fast though and the DSG suits the manic v10 performance, but gee's you are going silly silly speeds to get the best from the car in PLUS form though I think it's very under rated car, at least EVO's test car is showing the love for the newer PLUS model. Again the steering is BETTER than ANY new Porsche for sale today imo. what is has done for me is confirm I WOULD BE STILL GOING FOR A MANUAL in the GT4 if it happens. AUTO box's have a place for performance but not in 300bhp cars, they only work imo with turbo's and 500+bhp motors where performance is the key thing you are buying.
 
For some people a higher mileage less desirable specs, how ever your percieve that in specs. Everyones needs are different regards spec think we have been there done that. Its a way of someone who is not loaded getting into the model. Yes i saw the listed price lower myself. But agree with very light use the mileage might come into line in a few years. Only if money was no object [;)] Cliff
 
i agree Cliff-thats why I said it wasnt necessarily how i would treat that car-personally i would love ANY porsche right now!! but sadly if you are looking for anything like holding its value in the future then it has to be low mileage -but if its fun per buck then by all means the black virgin will do it (and i am right now quite jealous of whoeve has it!![:D])
 
Have to agree Dyllan but i wonder how many 356s have low mileage now days that are worth a fortune.[8D] In the ideal world we would all have the lowest miles best spec that suited that persons particular needs if money was no object. For light use no doubt anyone wouldnt say no to a slightly higher than average mileage at the right price of course[;)]
 
it takes years and years to get your money back. I have been looking at Ferrari's and there is 20k in it for lower miles cars do I want to get into a higher mile car for 20k less, no way. but you can buy a really nice Boxster S for 25k which is 95% of the car a Spyder is and if you want it for the drive fit 1.5k worth of Spyder shocks. Just saying if it were my 35k that's what I would be doing.
 
I guess the trick is dont sell a limited rare models. In it for the long haul for a possible profit in the end . Wont be selling my R anytime soon unless i really have to got my fingers burnt selling my beloved speed yellow GT3 Mk 1 just 4 years ago for 30k whats a good one worth now? [:mad:] If a model is 10k cheaper with higher mileage to start with and if I say if they do go up in value like so many of the Porsche have now days. Simples you sell 10k cheaper and still make a profit hopefully [;)] Crystal ball and all that. Finding the right balance between driving the right amount of mileage rather than just being a garage queen is key.Got to have some fun rather than just looking at it. Been abroad twice this year in the R done 2k in a few months. Where as the wifes 981 is her everyday car and in 14 months its done 12k all ready i can not get the keys from her hand.[:D][:D] for an everyday car these rules dont apply use and enjoy it get your monies worth change it in 3 years time Horses for courses
 
I have put over 4k miles on my Cayman since 16th May! One of the reasons I swapped out of the Spyder. For a high value collector's car in the future, mileage has to be very low or a mega premium won't attach. A friend who is in the fortunate position to collect cars has a (half serious) personal mental block at 19k miles - above that and they're not special enough is his philosophy. I'm sure that there are other serious collectors out there with a similar (if somewhat irrational) viewpoint!
 
At the risk of changing the topic slightly, I'm just wondering how the Spyder behaves if you push past the limits of rear grip, both in the dry and in the wet. Is it predictable and easily controlable, or do you have to be quick to catch the tail if it slides ?? Just curious as I've never pushed it that far yet, I think I've pushed quite hard but it seems to have lots of grip in the dry at least. I'm guessing Mr D might have some good input here ??

IMHO and referring to the R, it is very difficult to purposely slide the car whilst in PSM mode. The PSM and driver tend to fight each other, and it cuts throttle when you need it most [:mad:] When you turn off the PSM it is very controllable and easy to feel the rear end steer although the PSM does still lurk in the background and does kick in randomly. PSM is great for the road but totally useless and a hadicap on the track. HTH
