Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Thanks MrD. So if it does get the name GT4, will they be promoting its use in that class?. The GT2 was homologated for GT2, hence the name, even though the racing was scrapped. GT3 is named after the race class. Will Porsche use the name without an association to the race class? Daro, yeah that's the impression I got too. A naming after the cylinder count, which wouldn't be very Porsche if they did though. My guess is the name is going to surprise, as was the case with the R, a moniker that hadn't been used since the 1967 911R (Some said the Cayman R wasn't extreme enough to warrant the use of the R badge, compared to the original... ) http://community.evo.co.uk/users/Monkey-Harris/blogs/index.cfm/2010/11/17/CHRIS-HARRIS-A-note-on-the-Cayman-R-in-defence-and-in-memory-of-the-911R

ORIGINAL: tyinsky http://www.harwoods.uk.com/used-cars/14803/ 8,600 mile car here, seems the dealer doesn't know what it is. White, PDK, heated Sports Seats, Spyder wheels, PCM, Sports Chrono. £34,995. Either the prices are now starting to fall back after a silly spring and summer or this is a bargain.
Sold today subject to finance apparently....next in line for a call back if finance doesn't go through, it would be nice to get the call !

Hopefully 6. The Cayman is already homologated for the GT4 series and I think that Porsche is struggling to get sufficient interest in the GT3 series so GT4 might well allow a cheaper, more popular entry into Porsche motorsport. Maybe they'll introduce a Clubsport version as with the GT3. Jeff

ORIGINAL: flat6 Sounds like a great day Rob! How many different cars did you try? Did any of them spark any temptation?[:)]
997.2 GT3 991 turbo S GB special edition 991 turbo 30 minutes in the driving seat of each. I would sell a kidney for the 991 turbo S. GT3 - I was first out after lunch in persistent rain on cold tyres on the original handling circuit. Kept it in 3rd gear and didn't really learn anything about grip limits. Overtook Jeremy Heney though in the turbo [;)] The turbo S was the one that formed the piece de resistance of the turbo line up at PCGB Brands Hatch - really can't believe I got to drive it. The first time I put my foot down I let out a superb string of expletives and apologised to the instructor! OH MY WORD!! Savagely fast. Then we tried launch control... Can't describe just how good this car was - albeit slower than the Cayman GTS round the track!! Don't know how/why but I just couldn't keep up with it - despite being on it to the point where I overtook a Spyder 918!!! After that, the 991 turbo was (erm) disappointing. It felt like a fast but heavy Carrera and both myself and, independently, Jamie, had big moments with it on the handling circuit that we weren't expecting. It was slippy as anything out there and one guy completely lost it in front of Jamie in a 991 Carrera, doing a full 360 and taking out a bollard! Turbo S defied physics though - yet both cars had PDCC. It felt like it was from a super car class above. We reckon the tyres must- have been to blame for us losing it in the turbo but can't understand why the S was so different? Very good day though.

The mighty turbo S - everyone blown away by this.

Just seeing one of these is exciting - sharing track space with one was awesome!

Nice surprise to see this - even better to see it out on track! As for overtaking it - LOL!!

One of these is a great looking sports car, inspires its driver with confidence, neck and neck on the mandatory M6 toll booth drag race, quicker on the A43 roundabouts near Silverstone... the other is a Ferrari [:D]

did any of the instructors say why the turbo was so much different from the turbo s Rob?? interested as i havent ruled out a turbo from my shortlist but i certainly cant stretch to a turbo s at the moment cheers dylan

No / just a knowing "it's special isn't it". I couldn't believe it, re-calibrated my perception of acceleration. As for launch control, it rearranged your internal organs. In the wet.

wet both outside and inside i imagine Rob[:D]

When I first put my foot down on the handling circuit I involuntarily let out a string of expletives that would have shamed a Liverpool docker. All 5 of us felt the same, it was astonishing.

Our Spyderman kitchens gave his example a good soaking today with the full wet weather gear in place[:D] Fortunately an experience I am yet to experience []

They where not taken by myself courtesy of Tom Paterson fellow PCGB member .Just proves it is a car for all weathers

Nice shots Brian. Makes me miss the Spyder, a little. Very photogenic[:)] Rob, as you say, maybe a difference tyre wear or something. There isn't supposed to be much between a turbo and turbo S mechanically. As for not keeping up with the Cayman GTS, i'll credit that to the driver of the GTS[8D] You didn't comment on the GTS, did you drive it? I like the analogy that you'd sell a kidney for the turbo S[:D] I daren't drive one until I can afford one otherwise it'll make me less in love with my old one[:)]

ORIGINAL: MrDemon Not long to wait guys :) I should be in a car by spring being very high up on the list. OPC will be asking for real deposits very soon to keep your places. The biggest secret still is engine size, my 2 very high up sources don't agree on engine and both say they are 100% right. Seems odd it can be kept secret so close to the launch date lol. Well when I say secret I have a spec which I believe to be true :) but until the embargo date no one can know for sure as who feeds this leaked info ?
981 Spyder should be a very serious move forwards http://www.driving.co.uk/news/top-100-cars-2014-top-10-sports-cars-convertibles/
