ORIGINAL: Andy Steve, it doesn't make the pedal jumpy in the slightest and it DOES get rid of the "Squidgyness". IMHO it makes the pedal perfect for the car. When I had mine done in October 2013 it was £302.31 + VAT for the MC part number 997.355.910.30. However I believe you can buy it as a TRW part for much less.
Are you sure it's not your other mods and a new bleed which has reduced the squidgyness. Left foot brake in my R and it puts you though the window but still no firm end point. A brake booster is listed on all porsche blow up charts. Moving more fluid which is all a MC does cannot reduce squidgyness, if any thing give you less travel to modulate and fine tune cadence braking. The brake booster on the other hand is a device that uses vacuum pressure from the engine to decrease the amount of effort needed to push down the brake pedal. The squidgyness imo is this device loosing pressure and so you don't get that firm end point. The issues with feel are not MC related, although you will have to press harder and have less travel which masks the underlining issue. Your pedal once pressed when the engine is on will slowly sink and not hit a firm end point, this is the issue no ? Andy pedal hit the floor, he could have had a faulty oem MC to cause that, my pedal does not hit the floor and is way off it even when hot, so again a underlining issue for Andys car and he lossed brakes and ran out of travel. In his case less travel with a larger MC worked for that part of the issue, does his pedal slowly sink more when his engine is on with his new MC I put money on it doing so yes, problem NOT cured just masked.... This is all imo as no one is really happy with the brake feel vs a GT3 pedal for the firm end point. If the MC does not give me a firm end point and reduced my travel to me it's not ŵorth the fitting, my pedal travel on my car is perfect for hard braking and heal and toe. My Spyder which has a smaller brake booster and larger MC is firmer and has less travel Firmer imo due to the brake booster less help, less travel due to the larger MC moving more fluid my issue on that car is hard to heal and toe because the brake pedal is now to high vs the throttle pedal, but still no firm end point like a 996GT3. If you have a crazy long pedal and you don't like that yes a MC will reduce travel, if you want more bite (oem pads are lacking bite and over heat) fit better aggressive pads, but if you want brakes more like my Spyder PCCB then you need to be looking at the brake booster. Also bleed often, my inner nipple on the front calipers alwys bleeds a few air bubbles and feels nicer after a bleed. I ran all 3 systems side by saide so have a goos idea what is what Steels on my R. bad bite with oem pads, fited RS29's and gave the system a good bleed with motul 660 and then drive and rebleed. PCCB on the spyder, car is over braked which sounds daft , but the cars weighs 1250kg and it has 6 pots and 350mm disks all round, stops quicker than a P1 ;-) and my 996 GT3 now gone, I did an over haul on this car on the brakes, the Spyder with PCCB as it happens uses 996 GT3 front calipes as the PCCB caliper ;-), I also has RS29's fitted all round to my GT3.ORIGINAL: Andy FaganSteve, it doesn't make the pedal jumpy in the slightest and it DOES get rid of the "Squidgyness". I guess I can understand MrD's logic (that the same performance is squished over a shorter length of pedal travel which doesn't get rid of any squidge per se), but can also see that the swap would mask the dead travel (in I guess the same way that the "Sport Chrono" function tightens the throttle response). Andy - is it safe to assume that you don't find the brake pedal too "jumpy" for road use / heel & toe? I haven't enquired about costs yet - have you guys got a ball park figure (ignoring fluid change, which I would be doing anyway) Thanks, SteveORIGINAL: Andy FaganStrongly disagree MRD. It does give a firmer feel to the pedal. It doesn't give any better braking but it does stop that long pedal when you are really using the brakes. Doesn't need the Servo changing as it is perfectly good as it is. (Booster is the Americanism that people have picked up from a poster on PH ) Just try it and see what you think Steve.ORIGINAL: MrDemonI am not sold on the mod, I changed my pads and bleed the system and am happy with my brakes on the R as much as one can be. the MC CANNOT and will not give you a solid pedal feel, it will give you a shorter travel as it moves more fluid. but it's nothing to do with the solid feel people are after. I would be looking at a Brake booster change if I were you with RS29 pads and a good bleed of the system. The MC just masks the underlieng issue imo, not fixes it. no one seems to want to change out the brake booster though :-( and my SPyder has PCCB's which have no issue at all, (and a different brake booster to the steel set up, and a MC inbetween the steel set up and a GT3 set up)ORIGINAL: Steve Brown Have any of you swapped the brake master cylinder for a GT3 one? I'm considering (without any other changes to fluid type, cooling ducts etc) in an attempt to get a more solid pedal over initial travel (I'm happy with ultimate stopping power on the road - steel disks).
