Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

375bhp 3.8 so they say, but only manual and no GT3 sus parts. let hope Porsche pick up some race wins in 2015

874kg V4 turbo with electrickery up to 500 horses? Yet no electric roof. And a beating from the ugly stick. http://www.porsche.com/usa/eventsandracing/motorsport/worksracing/racingcars/919-hybrid/featuresandspecs/

Look at that shark fin piece. That is very different positioning to the current car where the equivalent of that part sits within the rear deck/cover and is surrounded by metal on all sides (leading edge, left, right, trailing edge). The spy shots show it open on the leading edge, so only surrounded on three sides (left, right, trailing edge). That's the bit that makes me think electric - the rear deck raises like it does on many cars and has for years (happens on a Vauxhall Astra from 10-years ago!), those shark fins move, hood folds back, rear deck lowers. To retain credibility they are going to have to pitch the power and suspension differently to the GTS is my guess.

MrD's Spyder is in Evo as promised and is described as "communicative, honest, adjustable and engaging". Hopefully might keep the prices buoyant. They also said he has evidently become quite adept at removing the roof over the years, but I thought he kept it under the bed! [;)]

Not that impressed with the EVO pic's , looks liked they have canned the front cover also and that was 1/2 a day shooting just for the cover !!! the sun did come out for a few seconds, so took a few of my own cars :)

Evo said "The Boxster and Cayman are entirely more familiar [than the 914]. To my eyes their basic shapes have been shown up somewhat by the muscular 981-generation versions that followed, with their assertive expressions and visual tension..." Like this one:

Any Spyder men go to Anglesey today as quite a few of the Scottish guys where at the RS day at Oulton Park yesterday and where going there today .

Meanwhile on Pistonheads: Lots of speculation over at pff.de claiming that the Spyder was delayed and will launch post facelift with a turbo 4... presumably because Porsche is trying to make the most out of the available production capacity for the GT4. Röhrl has stated months ago that he ordered a new manual Boxster Spyder because the "new turbo engines sound like a beetle and they won't make flat sixes anymore", so clearly it was planned to launch with the B6. If there's no news on 1. April then it seems likely that the car will come later on this year with the facelift.

gT4 delay , RS out later, maybe just no time to get a Spyder to market ESP if then plan to now launch a GT4 RS next March before the face lift !

But with 10 days to go and 1000's of test miles already done on the Spyder 3.8L / 375bhp makes no sense cancelling this late in the day and with a production run of under 2000 w/wide can't see why that would cause a major headache spread over 2 model years as originally forecasted[&o] If it was going to have the turbo flat 4 it wouldn't launch until facelift time circa 2021 [:D] [:D] Great news for 987 Spydermen having the only flat 6 engined Spyders ever made [:D]

981.2 Boxster Facelift is 2016 surely? 982 (or whatever they call it) is that far off. If there are delays (GT3 engines and all that ) and bearing in mind Boxster is a few months ahead of Cayman, I can accept the logic that they have run out of time to make them - particularly as MrD can't even spec his GT4 yet... See where we get to?!

Spring felt like it had sprung in London today would have been rude not to exercise some of the 320 horses and have a quick pit stop for refreshments too[:D] [8D]
