I need to have a go in one to see what the steerings like, as A 991 Turbo feels poor to me if it has that system.

Any takers? you can drive my Gt4. I am not even sold on the GT4 steering but it's just passable, but not vs my 987.2 Spyder :-( I know many people are happy with eps but I cannot stand it for my fun car.

some one has both and did a review on rennlist, said the steering is better in the GT4 and sharper, the ride is also better. he was going to still sell the GT4 though and keep the Spyder lol

some interesting views from an owner of both:

"Right off the bat, in sport plus mode on slightly damp roads, the Spyder's rear end is noticeably more lively than the GT4. In sport mode, the PSM seems to keep the rear end pretty well planted. After getting back into the GT4, I realized that the GT4 has either ESC/PSM on or off whereas the Spyder has an in between setting... The shift feel on the Spyder is lighter though just as precise as the GT4s. I expected it to be the same but I actually like the shift feel tune for each of the cars - fits their respective intent well. The steering feel on the Spyder is a little lighter and a little less sharp in feel than the GT4's - but that was to be expected. I didn't realize I'd be able to notice. The X73 suspension in the Spyder is slightly softer in feel compared to the GT4 in regular PASM mode over the small speed bumps but the GT4 does smoothen the rough road surfaces more than in the Spyder. Net is, the GT4's more sophisticated suspension is noticeably "better" even on the street - or at least I prefer it. The Spyder has no drone from the exhaust/engine whereas the drone from the GT4 is noticeable in the 2000-3500 rpm range - likely due to the rear hatch area acting as a sound chamber in the GT4 whereas the Spyder gets some the rear trunk lid for some sound isolation. With the roof up, the Spyder's exhaust is less noticeable - maybe the exhaust is not broken in yet. With the roof down, the Spyder sounds much better than the GT4 with windows down. The Spyder's throttle response in normal or sport mode is not as sharp/direct as that of the GT4. Have to try it in Sport Plus later. The Spyder's brake pedal is noticeably softer than the GT4's. I'd say by at least 20%."

The Spyder's 265 rear tyre will contribute to a livelier rear than the 295 on the GT4, almost irrespective of the suspension tuning/tyre type on both.

My CS has GT4 and third-party monoball suspension parts which create more noise, I think the Spyder has normal bushing.

lines like, the 981 cannot match the 987.2 steering feel or you have to work the 987.2 more but it rewards you for it, feels more like a sport car etc etc.

but then none of that is new news to me and was a given really ;-)

people must be mental to have swapped imo I already miss my R but still have my 987.2 Spyder in my life, for those who sold up for a 981 it's just not got the magic the old car had.

I inc the GT4 in that also these new cars are a bit meh ! and just don't excite like the old ones did, I fully expect the old car to over take the new cars prices in a few years.

On a plus note for people who think they missed out on the 981 or in fact think they have made a mistake, there are quite a few 987.2 Spyders for sale atm, my advice is sell the 981 for £8k overs and buy back a 987.2 car ;-) or if you did not get on the list for a 981 just buy the better more exciting 987.2 car for £25k less.

Interesting D; however I went out in mine today and can honestly say I much prefer it to the 987; no it doesn't have the steering feedback but for me in all other respects it wins hands down; maybe we are different drivers with different priorities but on my local 'test route' I find the 981 better planted, more tuneful and goes without saying noticeably more powerful;

As a previous 996 RS owner most cars lack the steering feedback of that car lol

 
i have a 981 (gt4) and had a 987 spyder and don't miss it one bit and I am sure a lot of previous 987 owners feel the same! The only thing that bugs me is the e-brake

 
For me personally, I find the overall 'fun' factor definitely higher in the 981 Spyder than in the 987 version, so I've no intention of reverting back.

 
Well I prefair the 987/2 Spyder every time. I got a call from my local OPC offering me a 981 Spyder but turned it down. It is nice to own a new Porsche and i do concider the 981 Spyder to be a nice car but for me it's just a soft option copy to please the people who found the 987/2 too hard core. I would love a 981 Spyder as my daily drive but not as my toy to polish and take out to shows at weekend. I am sure 95% of 981 Spyder owners will be totally please with their car but I am convinced in the future the 987/2 Spyder will become a very desireable must have classic

I fully agree the 987 Spyder will be a future desirable classic, it's a great car and I did really enjoy mine.

However for me I just find the new one a more fun drive, more agile and pointy, with very addictive urge and sound.

I concede that won't be everyone's view though.

 
As my next garage queens delivery has been kicked into the long grass by the time she shows up I think I will be desperate enough for all memories of my 2 987 Spyders to have well and truly faded leaving me without all the doom & gloom our Demon keeps posting all over the www :ROFLMAO:

As I happily went from a manual to my first ever auto manual and enjoyed both equally for very different reasons I am confident my 981 Spyder expectations will be well and truly met with no regrets of letting the previous 2 go or parting with over £20k plus for the newbie
