Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

CTEK works perfectly with my 2013 981, using the footwell socket. Plug it in, turn it on, lock the car. A long time ago somebody said that yes, the sockets shut down after 6 mins, but if you plug the charger in and turn it on within 6 mins of turning off the ignition it keeps the socket live. I have never tested that, but I typically have just unlocked the car before I plug in the charger, which probably has the same effect. In this respect the footwell socket works just the same as my 987.2 Cayman S did. I have two CTEKs (MXS 5.0) of slightly different vintage (the newer one has an AGM setting and the other says use the winter setting for AGM) and they both behave just the same, working their way along the sequence of lights until they eventually get to the last green one. Hope that helps.

Oh, and by the way, as far as the driver's manual is concerned the footwell socket doesn't exist...
Thanks for the posting Brian but I can confirm all my power outlets and the cigarette lighter shut off 6 minutes after turning the car engine off even though I have plugged the ctek in immediately whilst they are all powered up still

I have found the solution which is to buy a non Porsche Ctek which has the choice of various charging connection and with the comfort connector fitted to the battery terminal the ctek can then plug into this connection by passing all the computers that are switching the sockets off

Yes I picked up on that in the Autocar test of 718. Wonder if this means GTS and Spyder or just Spyder. Hope its both as I predict a 1 year wait for GTS launch and 3 year for Spyder.

Like the fully painted hoops and surrounds as well as the GT4 side pods with the Spyder script .

Not keen on the goldie coloured wheels and the carbon trims .The hound's tooth check seats look nice .

Again all down to one's personnel choice

Daro,

A variation, get an 2.4m extender cable which connects to the battery post cable and ends with the same socket that the CTEK connects to. I run mine under the plastic cover and it exits from the Orange windscreen fill cap and is long enough to reach the frunk. I have attached my CTEK to an adjacent wall and its cable and the extended one allow the bonnet to be shut whilst charging.

This is a picture of my car and the cable is long enough to close the bonnet and the charger sits on the floor

NUMBERS

I know 0-60 only matters to some of us but others may be interested in production numbers. Look like 191 981 Spyders to date.

I use the same Ctek as Brian not on a Spyder mind you as I have not got one been using it for years on various models .

Direct onto battery post very convenient cables just long enough for the unit to sit on the garage floor.

Can be hooked up in no time at all.

Nice Spyder by the way.

Cliff.

Interesting figures Spyder registered are 145% less than the GT4 or 1 Spyder to 2.1/2 Gt4

Spyder registered 14% less than GT3 RS

These old school Spyders are excellent value today compared to the Gen 2 versions

[*][/ul] Vehicle Description[/h2]PORSCHE BOXSTER 987 SPYDER, 2011 MILEAGE :- 13,210 MILES CARRARA WHITE PAINTWORK WITH BLACK LEATHER & ALCANTARA INTERIOR FACTORY OPTIONS INCLUDE:-, 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, BUCKET SEATS, , RED SEAT BELTS, XENON HEADLAMPS, PAINTED WHITE CENTRAL CONSOLE AND INTERIOR TRIM STRIP, 3 SPOKE LEATHER SPORTS STEERING WHEEL, CRUISE CONTROL, ON BOARD COMPUTER, ELECTRIC WINDOWS, 19” SPYDER ALLOYS, REAR PARK ASSIST, BLACK SIDE DECALS. Some vehicles need no introduction. The Boxster Spyder launched 55 years after the original iconic 550 Spyder, was an instant sales success for Porsche. On November 5, 2009, the Porsche Boxster Spyder was officially unveiled at the 2009 Los Angeles Motor Show. Positioned above the Boxster S, the Boxster Spyder was the lightest Porsche on the market at the time, weighing 1,275 kg, a full 80 kg lighter than a Boxster S. This was achieved through the elimination of the conventional soft top's operating mechanism, the radio/PCM unit, door handles, air conditioning, storage compartments, cup holders and large LED light modules on the front fascia, although some of these could be added to the car in the form of options. Weight savings were also gained using aluminium doors, an aluminium rear boot lid and the lightest 19-inch wheels in the Porsche range. The vehicle rides on a firmer suspension than the other Boxster models, and is almost 25mm lower in order to have more planted handling. A manually operated canvas top, carbon fibre sports bucket seats and two signature humps running along the back of the vehicle provide characteristic design elements. It is powered by a six-cylinder boxer engine with 320 BHP and 273 lb/ft of torque, a 10 hp increase over the engine in the Boxster S and the same engine used in the related Cayman S. This UK supplied vehicle has the desirable manual gearbox, and has had 2 Porsche main dealer services. It will also be supplied with a new MOT and a comprehensive 12 month warranty.

With 11 Spyders and 40! GT4's currently advertised some for many months now perhaps the initial premium bubble has ended and a cheeky offer close too list price especially on the S.O.R. cars could possibly be a reality [&:]

According to the web site £43.995 Prices have not risen at the rate one would have expected ,if the 981 had not been released I would have predicted some cars would have been starting with a Five by now
