Thanks,

Phil

Ok Rob i know i need to get it sorted sooner or later!! Are you going to that event?

On another note, has anyone here driven or owned a 996 C4S manual..Thoughts etc on these?

Thanks,

Phil

I owned 996 4s I bought it a few months old it had a mega spec and special order colour obviously it was a new car at the time so pretty much stat or the art in 2003.

Drove really well sure footed felt much faster than a Tip box ,brakes were never convincing I guess it's a heavy car.

Bad point of my car obviously does not affect all.

Rear main oil seal went at 5 k done under warranty, went again at 10 k done under warranty, went big time at 12k puddle of oil under it

1 month out of warranty done under good will.Opc said if it went again they would pull the engine apart.

I was on seal upgrade no 8 at the time.

Lost all faith in it and sold it for Mk1 GT3 I lost 31k in two and half years ouch.

I guess as a Porsche person you know issues that can affect some 996s rads, discs, RMS, intermediate shaft bore scoring .

Maybe I was just unlucky with RMS .

Cliff.

[/quote] I personally know of 2 x 996 and 2 x 997 Gen 1's same engine all go pop despite good service history's,careful owners so for that reason alone I wouldn't personally touch those models with the time bomb engines no matter how rare Porsche claimed these incidents to be [&:]

I do know about the 996 issues but i have a real bad 996 C4S inch!... However i dont want to be paying out if anything major goes!

I want something for 6-12 months that wont loose too much and i wont be too bothered about. And yes this is because the Spyder is going hibernation for the winter months, which is crazy but never mind!

Phil, I had a 2001 996.2 C4, mechanically identical to the C4S, owned by a fastidious long term PCGB member, bought by me in 2005 at 28k miles. Full Porsche history. On its second IMS...

The new engine cost me £11k in 2008 (Porsche were subsidising them at the time). I always reckoned the chances were 95%+ it would happen to someone else's car...

Use your Spyder, it's designed for it. Engine is robust. Far

more fun than watching it look sad and lonely in your garage. Unless you seriously want to keep it 40 years but even then you would have to ask yourself why - if you want an ornament there are prettier older Porsches.

With not much effort you can still keep it concours.

i hit -9 degrees on this roof down run!

But half of the fun is washing all this off and making it pristine again.

You're a long time dead and won't spend your final days wishing you used your Spyder less. Porsche know what they are doing.

Have to agree with Rob K. Treating cars to better health than yourself is for what purpose? So that your car can outlive you and be handed down to the grandkids? My current car is a keeper but at the end of the day it's a machine with a finite lifespan and the best part of owning it for me is driving it. Still only on 18000 miles at 10 years old, but if I don't get months off a year then neither will it :)

They can get the car but without being afraid to enjoy it too :) My current car is a keeper but at the end of the day it's a machine with a finite lifespan and the best part of owning it for me is driving it - getting to know it, enjoying the heart of it which is the engine. Still only on 18000 miles at 10 years old, but if I don't get months off a year then neither will it :)

But each to their own, I understand that too.

i am sure it is going to happen, perhaps not for a while but i think in about 10 years time you will have to pay more for a 987/2 manual Spyder than the 981Spyder version, well that my opinion and what do i know. cant wait to see though

i looked at that one when I bought mine back in xmas 2011 they tried to sell it for similar money then with delivery miles they were not prepared to offer me a good deal on my px and it sat around for months! The only good thing it has though over the usual must haves is xenons.

Over a year ago top555 had and sold a higher mileage(16k ) from memory with no warranty for close to £50k so prices have remained pretty stable

Lovely car, but these cars are surely made for driving !

Whats the point in driving 1k miles per year then getting the your money back....

I understand that for some the ownership is an enjoyable experience and fair play.

But when looking at values, if you're a driver, surely 5-6k miles a year is the norm.

The above car with 25/30k miles would be 43/44k tops ??

My 981 has 7k on it now, so probably worth 10/12k less than delivery miles cars I guess.

So high money for low mileage "works of art" cars.

Far less for well driven cars.

987/981, Hign/low mileage..... Something for everyone.

All good :)

many people have 3 or 4 cars esp Spyder owners so divide the miles between all 4 and it does get low.

I have 4 great cars but cannot drive them all at the same time, so my Spyder after 6 years is only on 14k, GT4 on 3k and the R I use every day.

I am not even sure how 3K has happened on the GT4 so even with little use the miles build up fast, so I get your point on 1k is daft, but 2k I know many get away with PA.

Your car looks stunning is it the one advertised above that Daro posted ? The 987 is a great car and you will not be disappointed and will give you miles of smiles . Get out and enjoy whilst the weather holds up and you can still drive them in the rain it does not harm them [8D].

911V must have sold more Spyders than any other independents put together and even some OPC .

No doubt other Spydermen will be along soon to welcome you to the WEB
