I think while we are on the same page [;)] many comments made on PH by certain keyboard warriors make me smile as they haven't even driven or been in a 718 version but just swallowed the journalist reviews wholesale. Easily done hence my insistence I at least got to sample the new car on the road for a thorough driver experience

The changes between 981 v 718 i.e. the plus and minus of each 981 for sound & possibly the softer looks the 718 for the brand new, if somewhat characterless, 4l engine and all its latest technology stop start and cylinder switching 6-3 plus the improved suspension & rubber set up imo to justify a change for the £16k list price, with folding carbon buckets no longer standard, it should have produced 450bhp to at least up the performance and make it a genuine junior GT product especially as a 718 GTS PDK F4 is a quicker car!

In the meantime some shots of the plastics to ponder yonder :ROFLMAO:

PTS available to certain markets but not for Brexit Britain - Perhaps we aren't buying enough cars these days to warrant this expensive option [&:]

I suspect these are management cars which are often have PTS colours. You can book these to buy when 18 - 24 months old at a pre-determined price range. I looked at reserving a particular car a little while ago but decided to get a GT4 instead. Seeing these again, a Spyder in a great colour albeit LHD might be a good choice for my last Porsche.

If Porsche can fit in PTS for management cars I don't see any reason why they can't do it for the paying public! They do it not as a management perk, but to test future colours for fading etc. You might see a future 911 colour or future PTS choices on a Cayman.

However for the UK market, the story a few years ago that Porsche GB traded PTS restrictions for more build slots was probably correct and particularly unhelpful as the standard colours for all the range is shall we say, limited.

I enjoyed reading the article mate. It was like a trip down memory lane, when we both had manual 987 Spyders. Then you moved to a PDK 987. I did then want a PDK version myself too. I can see why your current PTS example would take something extremely compelling to consider replacing it. When you say the 718 Spyder's steering feels lighter, does it also provide less feedback?

The steering provided very similar feedback to the 981 imo the difference in lightness struck me far more than any impression of difference in actual feedback but to be honest a lot of my focus was on the loss of any soundtrack both volume and tone from new engine now so sadly lacking until 5k rpm and even then still way quieter than the 981, the lighter steering, clutch and slightly more compliant PASM suspension set up in normal mode all left me feeling the car, like so many these days, was more grown up has far less drama without the pops & bangs on the downshifts and a feeling overall of being that much easier to live with for a wider audience

 
Interesting. What has always impressed me with Porsche is that they can alter the steering in the ways you describe but not alter its capability. Some manufacturers cannot seem to achieve that.

 
Agreed. What doesn't impress me with Porsche though is, as Rob pointed out above, that they can charge over $16,000 for paint that costs as much as any other shade and a gearbox that it standard on every current 992! Actually, thinking about it, it does impress me that they get away with it!

Whereas Litchfield can give me nearly 100bhp for my Carrera T for just £600! mmmm...tempting!
