Before and after

Looks good mate. The mirrors and handles give the car a much more modern feel. Are the handles the covers which have been selling on ebay?

Thanks. I got the handles from porschapart they were off a broken 968.

Looks super smart Jez. I like the cup 1's as well. I must get round to doing some cosmetic improvements, those cup mirrors are a huge improvement and the handles just set the whole thing off. I used to think that on a red car the clear indicators lenses wouldn't look any good but seeing it on your photo's they do look the biz.

Where did you get your mirrors from? They seem to go for horrendous money on ebay considering that 9 times out of 10 you need to get the right bases and have them painted up so you're probably looking at upto £500 by the time your done and dusted. I wonder how much they are brand new?

Same here, I'm keeping my 944S2 standard- even down to the orange indicator lenses. In 20 years time people will be desperate for the parts to convert modified 944's back to standard- keep hold of the bits you took off , Jez.

I love your optimism that there will be 944s around in another 20 years.

Hi Scott. The mirrors are an expensive luxury but do look great. I managed to get them from porschapart like the handles. Dropped lucky that they were in guards red already and from a 968 - probably one of the few pairs in the country. Design 911 sell all the bits but they obviously still need painting and you'd be about right on the costs.

To the rest of you who are sticking to the original, dont worry I have kept all the bits, just in case[;)]

Great idea when the design looked all in keeping right from day one whereas on the 944 the mirrors never looked right and the D90's just do not look anything like a sports car wheel. I think the after shot is lovely. My personal preference would be to remove the running strips and fit DP side skirts. This is what I want to do on mine. The running strips came off OK but some idiot in the past resprayed some of the panels (but not all) with them in place so it looks odd at the moment until I can get it all evened up.

Nice one Jez. I love the subtle change in appearance that the 968 bits gives to our cars, now you just need a bridge spoiler also [;)]

Darn I was all content with my 944 with the same wheels as in the after photo .........until I saw the handles and mirrors now I want them too![]

The original vs modded argument is one that will continue for the rest of time, and so it should. My personal preference is to go for subtle 'updates' rather than the Citroen Saxo boy racer bolt on plastic look. I think the teardrop mirrors and 968 handles are very subtle updates to the 944, look like they have always been there (unlike the bolt-on halfords look) and in my book that makes them ay-OK. They are also easily reversable if fashions in the future dictate. Unusually I like the turbo rubber spoiler rather than the bridge spoiler type - especially now I've got one of Rick Cannells vynil Porsche letters - although I wish i'd got them in red now.

I also fancy some sill covers. I've seen some from ESS (from VeeSweden originally) that from photo's i've seen look nice and don't seem to stick out too much like those box spoiler types. I'm waiting to see some in the flesh to make sure they look OK before I take the plunge though. I feel they'll provide a bit of protection for the outside of the sill and i've never really liked those daft under wing/sill plastic trips. A rather pathetic attempt from the Porsche styling dept I think. They look pants and do nothing but cause a nice water trap to attack those difficult to reach parts of the car.

I've seen some Cup 1's on a red 944 that were painted matt black. They did look the business also.
