Big increases in premiums?

It's hard to follow the pricing....I currently pay £128 for a Toyota Yaris 1.1 and £206 for an Audi RS4. £450 for the GT3 but that does include as many track days as I like in UK and Europe. The 430 is a bit more at £700 (and looks like it might come down on renewal) but all in all car insurance doesn't seem to bad.

I wish I could remember what I paid in 1968 for a Morris 1000 Traveller but inflation adjusted it was probably more than the Fezza!

Cheers

Nick

Ah, I can help you there. In 1973, as an 18 year old, I paid £17 for my 1966 Trafalgar Blue Morris Minor 2 door saloon, CHC 721D, the one with the light blue vinyl seats, red starting handle and after-market electric screen wash pump. 1098cc, not many BHP, still fewer Nm.

At the time, I worked for ITT in Hastings as a summer job soldering their TV sets together earning £19.20 a week.

Well the proof of the pudding will be the receipt of a cover note and insurance docs from Aviva but if that arrives I will be inclined to think proper insurance is in place. As far as I am aware Aviva are the largest insurer in UK so if they go down we will have more to worry about than insurance on a motor car.

Cheers

Nick

Nick,
I now had all the paperwork from Aon and the scope of the cover seems fine. I pay £550 for £150K value motor with 6K annual mileage.
I paid my previous insurer (Chubb) £1150 last year for 4K mileage and then they wanted £750 more for extra miles! [&:]

My GT2 and my previous 911TT were both with Aon.

Of course you never know how good insurance is until there's a claim - but I image Avivia will be fine.

Don't forget to post up some piccies of the new motor when it arrives. [:)]

Regards,

Clive

Nick, I take it you have a multicar policy with your no-claims spread over all the cars ?

Light blue Morris 1000 traveller 482 RKM light blue two tone seats and moss in the sliding window rails. Bought for £120 with 42k on clock in 1968 sold on graduation in 1971 but can't remember what for. Mileage at time of sale 89k including two trips to the Alps with all the climbing gear. Rarely did more than 55mph but enjoyed every mile. Ahhh those were the days!

Cheers with a nostalgic tear in the eye

Nick

No its not a multi car. Over the years I have had various insurers and brokers eg Hiscox, Chubb etc try to offer multi car but they are always much more expensive.

I take each car on its merits and buy good quality insurance at the lowest available price at the time.

So taking the cars in the order of my earlier post I'm with SAGA; More than; Allianz; RSA; and now for the new car Aviva.

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Clive that's reassuring.

Off to collect on Monday week 1st March ....already quite excited! Will try to remember to take the camera for a few pics whilst it's showroom clean.

Cheers

Not quite. As the policies are all separate I get full NCB discount on them all or I guess I do judging by the prices.

In my experience, no-claims is available on one policy only unless it's a multicar or similar ................I think you might be suprised if you mentioned to them that you are claiming your no-claims discount on all policies !

I don't profess any great knowledge of the internal workings of car insurance but I do furnish all insurers with all details and none have ever come back with a problem. In fact I do recall that when I increased the number of cars from 4 to 5 the insurer for the fifth initially "mirrored" the NCB on one of the other policies. The mirrored policy then built up NCB in its own right.

Insurance is a bit like the aphorism "There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that don't." I'm not sure which category I fall into!

I've done a little legwork but after reading this thread, I obviously need to do a little more.

2010 GT3 valued at £95k, parked on a drive, full NCD, no points with a full driving licence for over 20 years:

[blockquote]Admiral £590 XS £600 no track days (confused.com)
Manning £1400 XS £800 unlimited track days in the UK and Europe except the Nurburgring - underwritten by Allianz
Porsche Insurance £800 XS £430 including 2 track days in the UK - underwritten by Aviva
Aviva £1085 XS £1,000 no track days

[/blockquote]I'm deliberating between Manning and Porsche Insurance - it all depends on the number of track days. Both were very helpful and friendly and I would be happy to use either. That said, I'm calling Aon tomorrow! [:D]

It appears that Aon currently runs a profitable client book for their Insurers with below average claims made. In fact certain Lead Underwriters often do respond with sensible rates to those Brokers who have not caused too much pain!!
Thank you for raising this thread, and have duly grasped Aon`s very reasonable quote of £536 from Aviva on 6,000 annual mileage for
my 997.2 C2s the cover includes Mrs C (Anne) and one other family member.

Porsche Insurance (with Aviva)
I'm also with Porsche Insurance (Aviva).
Bought my 997.2 new last March and paid £558 for the year (10k miles per year). Received the renewal figure last week at £554 so £4 quid cheaper.

Unfortunately I picked up an SP50 whilst doing the same speed as everyone else on the middle lane (80-85mph), and got laser zapped by traffic police doing 83mph. Must remember to switch these dam LED's off as they attract the wrong kind of attention.

Anyway, rang the insurance company to let them do a re-quote based on my shiny new points (my first points in over 25 years, I'm 54 years old).

Shock horror, my quote came down by £12 pounds to £542 (strange but 100% true)

If I get more points will my insurance go down further? lol

The lady from the insurance company said something like 90% of drivers have 3 points or more now, so 3 points doesn't make a lot of difference. This much I know but I certainly wasn't expecting my premium to go down eeek!

I have a Cayman S, Gen II and AON have come out the worst as quoted me " sorry its over 600 and we can't be competitive" they must be doing something wrong, any clues anyone? Not very helpful as girl on quote line said they can't call me back, and then 2 hrs later a guy called me to see if I needed a quote.
The best quote I've had is with Peart at £394 with 450 excess and as my existing cover is £418 with 500 excess and 2 yrs new for old.
I'm still looking to beat that seeing as this is a 997 thread, woud have expected a Cayman to work out cheaper than a 911Turbo.

Thanks for that. I can see I'm being taken for a ride by Porsche/Marsh/Aviva - I'm paying circa £660 for my garaged, 6k miles/year 2004 Boxster S with £450 excess and 9 years protected NCB. Wonder how much they would charge me for a 2007 C4S or TT?!

They've also started charging £15 for track day cover notes - free last year.

I have spoken to AON again today and it seems they don't offer premiums below 400-450 and the minimum excess is 600 so that explains the previous non competitive response. Apparently the more expensive the car the more competitve their premiums work out, hence Aon are attractive to 911Turbo owners
Sorry to intrude on the 997 section, but thought this may help others.

I have been following this thread with some trepidation. Just got my renewal quote from Manning, which is up 8.5% from last year. From £490 to £566, 5000 limited milage, £550 excess, unlimited track days. The basic price is now looking expensive for a car now worth south of £40k![:(] But the track day cover is still the clincher so will stick with them again this year.

Hi All. Just had my renewal from Aon--now being rebranded Footman James!! C2 2006 with drive to work permission. 8 yrs no claims. Driver plus boss (Mrs!!). Located Kent. Garage with an alarm system that will make your ears bleed if it goes off--Plus ram raid post!! £598 fully comp. I think thats OK so will renew with Aon. Any different views welcome.[8D]

Nick,

I would try Nigel Ewen at Aon Private Clients Tel. 01737 505029.

See if he can improve on that. [;)]

Good luck,

Clive
