Big increases in premiums?

Guys,

I previously had my insurance with Performance Marque, and the policy was with RSA.

I had full NCD, and an SP50 as well as a total loss for a theft claim from 2 years ago.

The policy used to be about £1100, but this years renewal put it up to over £1220.

At the advice of the rest of you here, I gave AON private clients a call, and they came up with a policy with Aviva for just over £600 with al the same level of cover, and even a lower excess too.

So thanks for all the pointers to everyone, PCGB has saved me almost £600 this year alone!!

That's worth the membership fee if nothing else.

Cheers,

Nige.

I confess I dont understand how insurance companies work.

If you are a good customer and claims free your renewal premium still goes up year after year but if you shop around you can keep the cost down. New customers get better deals than existing ones just like with the mortgage comapnies. It doesnt make sense to me why they drive away (no pun intended) the good customers and try to attract new customers they dont know. In my business the best customer is the one you already have so why doesnt that work with insurance?

Joining in this discussion a little late but for info:

I have no claims or convictions and paid £397.28 in September last year for my C2S with a 6000 mile limit and a £500 xs. This was for a policy underwritten by Groupama and arranged through A-Plan Insurance Group, (tel: 01635 874 646). This was somewhat less than the renewal quotation because I found the same policy on a comparison web site for less and persuaded A-Plan to match this lower price. I wanted to stay with A-Plan because I had found them very helpful a year or so back in negotiating with the underwriter to arrange for an OPC replacement wind screen rather than use the underwriters preferred option of Autoglass.

Also worth noting is the favourable mention of Groupama in Paul Stevens' thread Ouch and Double Ouch see http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=531867

Totally agree with Bobfair--what I did not say in my earlier reply on this thread was that after having recieved my renewal from Aon Private Clients (now becoming Footman James) I made a call to Aon and with just one request they reduced my renewal by £70.00.
I have been a very good client for them over probably ten years or more--I don't recall ever making a claim so why am I penalised with an ever upwardly moving premuim?
All insurers, in my experience, will try it on with existing clients so do always push them as hard as you dare--you have nothing to lose!! [8|]

My experience with almost all insurances is that it pays to go to the market annually. [8|]

I like Allan, have used A-Plan for many years switching my business to the thatcham office due to very competitive quotes on my Porsches vs some of the other main players, most years they have way in excess of a grands worth of business from me but a few weeks ago I swopped no2 car midway through an insurance year they gave me the increased price from the insurer but failed to tell me they were charging £30 admin fee I went ahead then they called back after a few minutes and said by the way your excess has gone up but failed to tell me my windscreen excess had also risen by a fair amount. I have not had to bear an admin charge in the past and considered that they obtained commission from the insurer. After spotting the greater amount removed from my account I phoned to ask for an explanation they said they would play the tapes back to confirm yea or nay to the admin fee being mentioned in my telecon with A- Plan. I tried later in the day for an answer but they said they hadn't got around to listening to the phone tape, 2 weeks later I've had no response (they know all my telephone numbers). Yes its only £30 but on principle they will now have to come in considerably cheaper than the next man at renewal time and I'll be sure to remind them that they ticked me off midway through the year plus its been highlighted in PCGB forum to one of A-Plans main Customer bases. Seems after the good posts on this subject line AON/ Footman James will feature at renewal time for sure.
Ps House insurance is with A-Plan so will take Clive's advice and go to the market when thats due as well.

Paul

Anyone know what Rob is replacing his 997 with, its been very quiet since the PP shock news?

Reel new customers in with cheap deals, then hike up the prices come renewal time safe in the knowledge that most do not bother going to market every year and just stay with their current provider. Same thing goes for 0% balance transfers - Credit card companies take a hit for 12 months, then hear the tills ring thereafter.

You're probably getting free - (or in the case of credit cards they are paying you) insurance services (ie no profit to them) for a year if you are smart enough to shop around come renewal time.

My renewal came through last week........last year £921, this year £1,815 [:(]

It was with Groupama via A Plan.

A quick bit of searching on the net and had the price back below £1K.

Call to A Plan and they matched it with RSA........

That is a shocking jump!!!

Even though I say I will look around next time, mine only went up by £50, so I didn't think it was worth the hassle of shopping around...[&:]

My insurance is due in April and having traded up to a Turbo I was expecting the worse with insurance prices going sky high and now 480 bhp to boot, but looking on Go Compare the best quote so far is £384 so I'll wait and see what my broker comes back with. Can anyone beat £384 for a turbo with 6 yrs no claimsm, protected and 6000 miles per yr. I must admit to being a little unsure as to what cover I will actually get but lets wait and see anything under £600 will be a bonus.
