Building a 400bhp+ 2.5 ltr 944 Turbo

Yes... Torques are on eBay, seem to do a pretty comprehensive list...I must ask my son which 044 pump he fitted, they do some fancy setups for big power.

It’s super easy to make your own fuel lines - I’ve just made some more to fit an 044 pump and replace all the factory hoses at the rear.

Pete - that hard pipe pre turbo is for the line from the AOS is it not?

Could be David....my memory is a bit hazy these days. I hadn't heard of the company 'Torques' before..they do some neat stuff...love their 044 pump and filter combo's, all held in a custom made bracket, not to mention their multi pump setups...all very professional looking. Their multi pump sets could certainly handle any power required for road/race cars...

Yes have you seen the price Porsche wants for the small section of fuel hose that goes from the pump to filter £££

Also made my own [s2] and stole the foam "protector" from the old one [;)]

Hi Pete! I feel ashamed as I haven't logged on for some year's but it's great to read and see you are still building your car. Hope all is well with you and everyone who has followed your progress over the year's.....Super stuff!

Hi John...no need to be ashamed, I go AWOL time to time too...I'm good thanks, hope yoi are too....the car is running great...in fact I'm falling in love with her again, hope to use her more from now on and give her a well deserved bit of TLC. Mechanically, she's great, needs some work on the interior, body is rust free, shiny but I won't be happy until she has a fresh coat of Guards Red...I'll update this thread as things progress.

Cheers

Pete

Looks like we’ve been doing similar jobs - I fitted an 044 pump and remade all the lines back there too.

Yes - you've done a much better job than me Eldavo [8D]

I was inspecting the rear end during the main restoration jobs last year and was greeted with lots of rusty bits - found the joint on the fuel pump had completely corroded so suspect it had been dripping petrol over everything in that area advancing the corrosion whilst it had been in storage.

Replaced the cover with a used item from Douglas Valley which I got blasted and powder coated, then made a new strap out of aluminum -

nice work guys... I need to do some work underneath.. the good news is, there is no, body/chassis rust, not since my son fixed the issue around the driver's side inner rear sill 5 years ago, a result of the car standing for a few years while the engine was rebuilt. All good now but a fair bit of TLC required, both interior and paintwork, some would say it's all good, it isn't, not in my eyes...I'm such a fussy bugger...:)

My plates were getting a bit tired, badly affected by UV, in fact, some ANPR camera's couldn't pick them up under certain light conditions. So, yesterday lunchtime I ordered a custom set using the road-legal 3D font, added a red border and a suitable line of text.

They arrived at 11:30 this morning, now I call that 'service'...when placing the order I included some sticky pads and alcohol wipe. I spent about an hour this afternoon fitting them, prised the old plates off with a short length of hard oak which I had shaped and rounded off for the job in hand. Once the plates were off, I first gave the general area a clean with soapy water and then coated the remaining stickly pad sections with WD40 and scrubbed the residue off using the oak stick and some towel soaked in WD40. Gave the area another wash, dried and then wiped with alcohol which in turn was left to dry fully before fitting the new plates.

Here's some pictures of the rear plate.

The area before cleaning.. it must be approx 18 years since these plates were fitted, the area behind tells all the stories of those early 'rich running' days...:)

And the new plate... much better

I hadn't realised until now just how badly worn the 'Porsche' sticker had become, no wonder my son had been going on at me to change it, best get it done soon.

Is it going pink?
in some places it has lost a lot of its shine, or should I say, I can get it back but it doesn't last long before it hazes over again.. it clearly needs a respray. I hope that my son will take this on when he has time, he has a new booth and body jig that should arrive soon. problem is I'll need to get all new rubber first which is beyond my ability cash wise these days, we shall see how things work out.

Years ago I had quite a few mk1 Golf GTi's, including a couple in mars red. I got fed up cutting the paint back, and avoided red from then on. Though my Mrs 6 year old Fiesta ST in red still looks like when she drove it out of the showroom.

Hi All I was digging around for some old paperwork today to answer Paul's question re 'intercoolers' and came across my dyno run from 2007. I thought that I would share it here, this is when the car was producing 368bhp at the crank. With the new mods, most of which are listed in this thread I'd give today's power output a conservative 400 RWBHP. There's more to come if I decided to go further but I think this is enough for me . One day I'll get Wayne to work his magic again and see just how far we can push her safely.... I still have two more settings to chose from on the ECU which gives a more aggressive timing, currently she's at the lowest/safest setting. Anyway, here's the graph from 13 years ago..she was running at 19 PSI for this run, today she runs at 23PSI

Hmmm, I reckon the way to tell what your rebuild gained is to run it at 19 lbs on a dyno again. Then see what it does at 23 lbs, which incidentally I reckon could be borderline on a hot day/fat passenger/long incline situation.
