Cayenne S Diesel

The more reviews I read about my new Cayenne Diesel S, the more I can't wait for January!

http://cars.uk.msn.com/reviews/porsche-cayenne-s-diesel-2013-onwards-1

Sadly UK OPCs still don't have their allocations yet, but I did hear a couple months back that German OPCs already booked up their allocations for 2012 and earliest delivery starts April/May 2013. So this is obviously Porsche's 'most wanted' car right now. As I am 1st on the UK wait list, perhaps this year is still a possibility for me.

Just driven it, and its AWESOME!

Faster than the demo GTS here for sure!

Sold out until Nov / Dec now.

Can't wait until mine gets here...

Build date is 11th Feb. but I'm not going to take delivery until 1st March, so I get new 13 plates.

Sensible plan. Called in at Reading OPC yesterday, but the Cayenne must have been out on demo.

Hi Alex,

Just paid a refundable deposit on the new V8 RS6 Avant but wondering now if the Cayenne S might be better.

As you're a previous V10 RS6 owner (still have my RS6 Plus) It's great to see you're keen on this Cayenne Monster.

I'll try to obtain a test drive from Dick Lovetts in Bristol. Hmmm

This is a tough one as prior to the last 6 months ownership of my RS6, I would have said its the best family car in the world. However, the nightmare of it depreciating like a stone whilst not being able to sell it, combined with the insane servicing and running costs just ruined the whole experience for me.

The Cayenne S Diesel is hugely more economical to run, still has quite a bit of poke (under 70mph anyway), is more luxurious and when faced with snow or a deep flooded road is much more capable. Where the RS6 takes advantage is over 70mph where on the autobahn it leaves pretty much everything else behind.

Oh and given the 9-12 months waiting list and OPCs only getting 1 car per month from Germany, I could walk back into my OPC in 9 months time and instantly sell it for pretty much what I paid for it! ...there is that much demand for Diesel Cayennes.

My new Cayenne S Diesel is at the local OPC. I saw it and sat in it today and am very pleased.

The wheels in particular look great with the grey metallic coating and coloured centres. The multi-functional sport seats are also WAY more comfy than the ones in my '08 997 Turbo. The sports steering wheel is also truly sumptuous. That cabin is a very nice place indeed to be.

Cant wait until I can collect on Friday. Many pics and full review to come...

Looking forward to the pics Alex. Took ours (non S, obviously) down to Spain a couple of weeks ago, St Malo to south of Valencia, 1465kms took less than 12 hours and over 30mpg, in one sitting, as it were. Just one stop for fuel; several more for the dog. Surefooted across the snowy Pyrenees, comfortable on the motorways and finds it's way round bends when required. Reminded me again how competent the Cayenne is.

Alex,

What spec did you go for? I have mine arriving in May so very interested to see your pics and get your first impressions. Mine is coming from Swindon and the delivery date has come forward quite a bit so maybe they are upping production based on demand.

Cheers

What spec did you end up with Mike? And it's funny how long wait lists sometimes evaporate when real money has to change hands. Had it happen to me several times over the years...

It's sitting waiting for the 13 number plate on it to be allowed out on the public roads!

Friday morning is when I get to take it out for its first spin.

Very hard waiting!!!

Mike, yours and Alex's specs are pretty epic. Funnily enough, the towbar has proved more useful than anticipated and justified the cost with avoiding just one rental skip, using a trailer to the local tip instead. Guess yours is more for hauling a track car though?

My other Porsche (ha ha) is 993RS so normally goes to the track under its own steam. Tow bar is for the wifes horsebox.

Did go a bit mad on options but frankly it's fairly hard not to! My current day to day car is a Merc E Coupe and much of the stuff I have optioned on the Porsche, bluetooth, heated seats etc is standard on a Merc. No wonder Porsche are doing so well.
