Cayenne S Diesel

Seems a bit harsh making your wife travel in the horse box mike [:D] does she talk too much or something ?

Took her down to Hayling Island today (next to Portsmouth) to a little running in and a trip to the beach with the family.... this car is AWESOME!

Only complaints are that I cant find a way to turn on parking sensors whilst moving ie. for getting through a tight gap, a couple of very light acceleration gear changes were a bit heavy, and there is a little wind noise from the drivers door at 70mph. Other than that - perfect.

I have a weekend full of workouts planned for the SD so more reports to come!

Looks fantastic Alex, though you'll spend way too much time trying to keep those wheels clean[:D]
Sensors only work below 9mph btw, they're not switchable AFAIK.

Welcome to the 4x4 Porsche club Alex.Great spec and looks really good in white. Sounds as if it was worth the wait. I've booked an S demo next month when mine goes in for another oil change, so I'm really looking forward to comparing the two. However, I'm a bit miffed that this Cayenne (Oct '11) only goes 14k between changes, then had to go in again at 20k for a service and now again for another change. So much for long life oil! Enjoy the weekend running in !?
Regards, Mike.

Any particular reason given for the 'short' oil life Mike? Or is this normal for the diesel.

I queried this with my OPC who told me "there's a sensor in the engine which monitors the way the vehicle is driven and calls for an oil change accordingly. This is strange because my previous A8 and Q7 both had the same engine and didn't require oil changes on the long life variable servicing basis until 17500 plus miles. Even my last 2010 Cayenne diesel ran up till 16500 when it also had the minor service. But 14000 is too soon to have a 20000 service as well as the oil change, so I have to make two visits within a few months, yet my driving style and habits remain constant! I'm quite sure the car would run happily to the service point provided the spanner sign wasn't programmed to appear beforehand!!

Thanks, presumably the oil change can be done by anyone (with PIWIS) as it doesn't appear in the service manual?

Looks amazing. I know it's early days but do you find the torque and sheer grunt as impressive as everyone says?

I had a short test drive so did not get a full impression.

Enjoy the car!

My senses are a little warped when it comes to 'grunt'. I find my mod'ed Turbo slow these days when in fact it's viscously fast.

What I will say is that it gets you up to 70mph as quick as you will ever need in the real world. And having all the low rpm torque on offer means it doesn't have to change down so many gears when you floor it. So the effective lag is less.

For a family car I wouldn't want the car any faster. Save that for my weekend fun on my own in the Turbo.

My car is still running in so have only played with the sport button once or twice.

This far I'd say the S Diesel is a BETTER CAR than my old Audi RS6 Avant despite having 200 less HP! It's has a smoother engine, is more luxurious, feels more space in the cabin due to the panoramic roof, is more economic, and has more off road capabilities than I will certainly ever need. Plus it's a Porsche, with all the benefits that come with that (build quality, free weekly car wash, 10% club discount on parts etc). Other than the 70mph drivers door wind noise issue (which hopefully my OPC can fix) I think this car is epic.

Alex,

Are you still loving it? Did you get the wind noise sorted out by the dealer?

I should have mine in May hopefully.

Plesae give us an update.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

I didn't want to provide a report until I am satisfied with everything on the car - and the wind noise issue is now re-checked-in for the week starting the 25th. The OPC have acknowledged there is an issue (as other cars they subsequently tried dont do this) and they can now work on it without invalidating my warranty.

Also, the official MPG of 34 average is rather questionable. So far I have only got 30+ on two journeys, both were predominantly motorway. It does seem to be slowly creeping up though as the car runs in.

The other odd thing is that the clocks on the PCM and steering dash were different for a journey I did the other day. I have the dash one (always correct) set by GPS automatically bit the PCM one is sometimes 10 mins slow, sometimes 1 min slow and sometimes aligned with the dash one. Really weird!!

Other than that - loving it yes! [:)]

Spec wise, I wish I had added the electric-closing-boot though as my wife has already hurt her shoulder trying to slam the door shut (and you do really have to slam it!). I have subsequently added Tequipment boot cargo net, a fridge for the boot and a side window blind. Other option reviews:

* White <= stays surprisingly clean despite my best efforts and looks great!!
* ParkAssist front and rear <= essential given the dimensions of this car
* Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) <= havent driven in very dark conditions yet so difficult to say how good this is. No complaints yet though.
* Stainless steel front apron <= adds to the looks IMHO
* Panoramic Roof System <= awesome, makes such a big light difference inside. However when going through a snow blizzard the other day the AC couldnt keep the windows from misting up until I closed the blind on the sunroof for more insulation
* Bi-Xenon headlights system incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) <= same as above
* Air suspension with self-levelling and height adjustment incl. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) <= essential for any Cayenne IMHO, love the way the Sport button lowers the car to help handling, plus great to raise the car when going through flooded roads (loads around me recently)
* Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) <= havent really pushed the car enough to notice this yet
* 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheel <= the BEST option I went for, the grey wheels look clean all the time and really suit the car against the white.
* Wheel hub cover with full-colour Porsche Crest <= make a big difference to the wheel look IMHO
* All-Season tyres for 20-inch one-piece alloy wheels <= been useful in the recent snow, haven't had any grip issues once yet
* Tyre-pressure monitoring system (TMS) <= safety net I wouldnt ever do without again
* Adaptive cruise control <= much better than my old Audi system, use it every day and wouldnt be without it on a new car now
* SportDesign steering wheel with paddles <= love this steering wheel, so glad my saleman couldnt talk me out of this
* Adaptive sports seats incl. memory package <= so much better than the same seats in my 911, unbelievably comfy - only missing a massage option!!
* Sidebags rear <= for Junior in the back
* Heated front seats <= very good for winter or aching back muscles
* Digital radio (DAB, DAB+, DMB) <= unsure why I got this as I never listen to the radio - the PCM holds 40GB jukebox to download music to from a memory stick...
* BOSE® Surround Sound System <= okay but not great
* Preparation for mobile phone <= needed for bluetooth integration for your mobile, can also play music from my iPhone over bluetooth
* Porsche Communication Management (PCM) incl. navigation module <= required
* Universal audio interface <= required

Done just over 1000 miles thus far, averaged about 26mpg - but as I say this is starting to creep up...

Was driving around in £160k+ Bentleys at the weekend (link)

Afterwards I got back into my Cayenne to drive home, and realized that it was a much nicer place to be!

Hey alex, did this have something to do with Craig by any chance? :)

Claus (new HR.Owen site manager - Bentley & Lambo) sold me my 911 when he was at Porsche Reading

Craig (new HR.Owen Lambo manager under Claus) sold me my Cayenne when he was at Porsche Reading

ie. the best two guys from OPC Reading now run HR.Owen in Pangbourne; both good friends these days given our kids all play together and we do family gatherings.

Thanks Alex, very useful especially the feedback on options. I have a broadly similar spec so all good to know. Glad to hear you are so happy and good luck with the seals.

It is noticeable that what are Options on a Porsche come as standard as most other up-market cars. Things like heated seats, bluetooth, auto dimming mirrors etc should not be extras but there you go.

I hope theecomomy improves! I self-justified the V8 on the basis of 34mpg.

I certainly agree, based on my experience of buying from Craig also (infact we ordered our cars on the same day didn't we?) [:)] Looking forward to a Lambo jolly in the summer!

Glad you're enjoying the new Beast Alex.

Just been given a build completion date of May 15, delivery by the end of that month.

Seems to have come forward quite a bit. Dead excited about getting the car!
