Cayenne S Diesel

I knew joining this forum would be bad for me, now every time I look at the Cayenne brochure I want one. So I'm close to putting a deposit on a Cayenne S Diesel, then a face-lifted version is mentioned so when will the new version be on sale. If as I was told by the dealer ordering one now and delivery would probably be April/May 2014 so if the new version is due soon after I might hold back until I can order one of those instead.

Has anyone experience of dealing with Peter Vardy Porsche in Aberdeen? as they would be my choice of dealer purely for convenience if no bad things are mentioned regarding their sales and servicing.

One other question one of the road tests mentioned the lack of space for resting your left foot when driving, is this a issue as I've never sat in one yet to know.

PM sent John.

Just noticed the bit about foot space, no problems for me but I'm only a size 8. Maybe those of a larger sized foot will say otherwise.

Hi John,
bought both my current cars through Aberdeen and I've been happy with their service and performance generally so far, just a shame they're 3 hours away from me (but my nearest dealer). I'd happily recommend them.
Cheers, Colin

Thanks Mike and Colin, I spoke to the dealer today and they will let me know when the face-lifted version will be available compared to the earliest delivery date for the current model. The good and not too bad reports on the dealership means placing a deposit next week hopefully.

If the Porshe dealership was not next door to the Land Rover dealership I would not have wandered in while waiting for the Range Rover to be serviced. Now I'm on the verge of buying a make I never considered buying in the past.

I have just put a deposit on a Meteor Grey Cayenne S Diesel with Black standard interior, for delivery in October. I also ticked loads of boxes for the various options, some of which may prove to have been worthwhile and the rest because I fancied them at the time. So right or wrong it's too late now as I've made the commitment.[8|]

Can't wait for October already and it's only an hour since placing the order.:ROFLMAO:

Excellent decision John. October is quite soon, they've obviously reduced their waiting time from when I was speaking to them, it was approx 7-9 months when I was speaking to them.
You won't regret buying the Diesel S.

I was also told 7 to 9 months mikec, which was far too long for me to commit myself. Then the dealer told me they had a cancelled order for the October build which is what went for. I hope you're right about not regretting buying a Cayenne as it is such a different vehicle from the Range Rover, I expect it will take a while to get used to.

Are 18" wheels a poor choice on the Cayenne? I've been advised to go for the larger size so am wondering if the 19" wheels are a better option, I don't want to go any bigger in case the ride suffers too much for my aching old bones.

Have you spec'd air suspension? If so 20" wheels are fine. If your down Aberdeen way and can't get a test drive arranged, I can try and meet up with and let you try out my Cayenne with 20" wheels. I have 18" winters and the wheels do look small in my opinion but then who's to say I'm right...

Thanks for the offer of a test drive on the 20" wheels mikec but my next trip to Aberdeen will be to collect a new Cayenne. Your comment about the 18" wheels looking small was exactly what the dealer told me, so I think I'll stick to the 19" wheels as a compromise between the good 20" and bad 18" ones.

I have chosen Air suspension so the ride should be fine. The 19" wheels with All-season tyres should be fine for at least the first winter then maybe get a set of 18" wheels for winter use later on. I have 20" wheels on the Range Rover for summer use and 19" fitted with winter tyres for the rest of the year.

Hopefully I will get the order forms signed off this week so the build can go ahead while I twiddle my thumbs in anticipation.

7000 miles on the clock and two updates:

1) Got a CEL, took to OPC and they said it was a glow plug that either was faulty or a sensor glitch to do with the glow plug. The reset the warning light, but then couldn't repeat. I have had at least 10 cold starts since then and no sign of the issue again. Car is booked in with OPC at the end of the month to investigate further but for me, there is no problem.

2) My MPG has gone up! Previously struggling to get anywhere near the claimed 34 mpg average, now on (albeit predominately motorway) trips I am getting 36 mpg (even with traffic jams).

Glad to hear that the mpg has improved. I have averaged around 32 mpg over 3000 miles so far.

has anyone else done the day at the Porsche Silverstone Experience with a Diesel S? I could not believe how capable the car was on the track, we were overtaking (obviously not well driven) 911's for goodness sake! The way it performs on the skid pan and ice hill were simply unbelievable. It really is an incredible car in terms of it's range of capabilities. It's awesome off-road as well.

I found the day, or half day, really special and would highly recommend it. The track is obviously a bit mickey mouse for anyone who does regular track days but it's long enough to get a real feel for the handling of your car.

Hi Mike, I did the half day with the Diesel and I've reserved a slot for October for the Diesel S. I'm guessing it'll be much the same but I'm making a long weekend of it down south.
So far my Diesel S seems to be loosening up nicely, at 1700 miles now and MPG is about the same as yours. I wonder what it'll be like on the long run down to Silverstone.

In a regular Diesel with air-suspension I was lapping everyone! Not so much in the Diesel without air-suspension.

I wonder if they ran in the engines more at the factory for slightly later cars?! I can't explain the discrepancy otherwise. I guess we will find out when you guys get to 7k on the clock and if you are then hitting 40mpg!

I was told by my instructor that the chassis/floorpan on the Diesel S is different to the normal Diesel, it's the same as a Cayenne S/Turbo and hence handles better. Was completely unaware of that.

We are very lucky to drive these cars, they are bloody brilliant!

Now done 5000 miles. Averaged 33.1 mpg and still seems to be getting better. I find the combination of performance and economy very impressive. On a long run I am getting high 30's and if I drive like a granny 40.

Only problems are the rear wiper which does not clean the rear screen properly and I have kerbed two alloys comprehensively but that's hardly the car's fault.

How is everyone else getting on?

Any idea what the waiting list looks like now?
