Cayman GT4: Where are we up to now?

Yes, that's certainly a possibility Brian. But to me that big rear spoiler looks a bit too extreme for an R-spec car and even though the 987R was an excellent car, it didn't sell particularly well. Whether or not a 718R would fair better is open to question.

Actually, that reminds me about another point I was going to make. Rightly or wrongly I believe that projected GT4 numbers were based heavily on R sales and therefore Porsche seriously underestimated GT4 demand. Whether or not Porsche had the capacity to produce more cars is a moot point but one would hope that they're planning more production capacity for the Mk2 car.

When the caymanR came out sales of all P cars were struggling but that has not been the case for a few years. I also cannot see a flat 6 n/a Gt4 ,perhaps this time round it will be a caymanR with better brakes and aero than the former car but retaining the f4 turbo in view of a 718.2 gt4 with a turbo engine after punters have come round after a 718CR.My other thought is the next Gt4 could have the 991.2s engine as per previous gt4 or even a 3.0l f4 turbo who knows but I am not sold on use of the old engine 3.8 or 4.0 it just doesn't fit in with the Porsche way!

Some very valid points there Paul, most of which I think we've addressed on the Déjà vu Edition of this thread and, in particular, GT4 engine options.

I'm not sure if having introduced a 718R there would be sufficient time, justification or incentive to bring out an f-4 turbo GT4 before the arrival of the next generation Cayman and I think that R and GT4 versions are mutually exclusive.
