Cayman Register Secretary

Having read through this ever growing thread, I can say that when I took the role on I was asked by the previous encumbent if I would accept the role, to be truthful my wife had died only a week before and I needed to get out and about in some form, doing something new.

It took some time for the machine to turn and about a month later I was in place, so, when I decided to give up the role after seven years I presumed that my recommendation of a new RS would carry weight and proposed Helen Goff for the position, however, I was told by club office that there was a procedure whereby applicants would need to be assessed!

I would still recommend Helen due in part to her enthusiasm etc and I hope that she reapplies, I offered to remain in place as a support to the new RS but it is getting beyond a joke that the club cannot get their act together! It was about the end of August that I sent in my notice, Helen lives only a short drive away from my home in R8 while she is located in R9 and so in the unlikely case that she needed to go over anything we could meet up. She also has the backup of her husband Larry who I believe is the Macan RS.

Cliff, in reference to the Mailchimp circulations, I have checked the register listing and find that you are listed correctly and so you should be receiving such circulations.

Problems with Mailchimp, they have redesigned the system and I found it practically unusable, no doubt if someone is using it regularly they become conversant but why keep fixing it so that it is different each time we wish to use it?? Very frustrating but fortunately George who runs the media desk at club house has helped me by doing the circulations on my behalf when I have sent in the words and yes he is so good at it that he can add links etc. I did not feel the need to relearn it when I expected to be out of the RS chair before now.

I will be in place as the Cayman RS until such time as I am notified that they have a replacement but have heard nothing so far.

Kevan I received my first ever Mailchimp recently regarding the latest coffee event so looks like something has been resolved. [:D]

I also agree Helen would fit the bill with her experience and enthusiasm all things PCGB.

Cheers.

I cannot understand what the hold up in appointing ROs and RSs.

Sorry to harp back, but when I was the Regional Director on my first stint on the board I made the RO appointments and reported to the board that these had been done. Vetting was done by interview either in person or over the phone. There are simple requirements laid down in the ROs and RSs handbooks for both RO and RS positions.

I fear that the current system is to bring appointments to the whole board and discuss at the next or future board meetings. This must be where the delay is.

There was and still is no necessity to involve the whole board in micro managing the Regional or Register Directors (whatever their names are now!). We elect directors to make decisions for us either individually or collectively as each matter presents itself.

Let’s be honest, getting volunteers to undertake these roles is not easy and any volunteers are few and far between. When they do come forward they should be grabbed with open arms and 'vetted' ASAP!

Well said Peter this issue is now beyond a joke.

The latest Porsche Post still shows Kevan Sutherns as the Cayman RS, there is no mention that a replacement is being sought even though Kevan has said here that he tendered his resignation in August. Maybe it’s been forgotten that Kevan wants to stand down?

The 2019 Survey of Members might present an opportunity to express views on the Cayman Register Secretary situation....

Just did that very thing Ralph!

Yep, still waiting. As far as I can see there’s not even any mention that Kevan is standing down and a replacement is being sought in the Board Meeting Minutes of 27/9/19 and 30/11/19, I assume it’s not a board matter.

It always has been the Register Director's responsibility to vet / confirm RS appointments, but this is usually taken on advice. Sadly, the entire board seems to have gone into bunker mode, (witness cryptic board minutes), and the result is paralysis !

'Striving for Excellence' seems to have excelled itself in poor communication and inaction. If the queen can sort H&M out, this can't be that difficult !

Yours in hope, Maurice

Excellent Maurice - I couldn't have put it better myself!

Whilst I can understand the desirability of having an open selection process for the new RS in order to avoid criticism for nepotism, Kevan says that he tendered his resignation late in August, so we're now well into the fifth month of that process - surely more than sufficient time to find his replacement, as well as being very unfair to expect him to act as a temporary stand-in, even though he's doing it willingly?

Let's hope a decision is forthcoming before the end of January.

Jeff

Jeff,

I think the open bit starts with a request for applications which we seems not to have had so far...

Feb 2020 Porsche Post arrived today, Kevan is still acting RS despite having tended his resignation and suggesting a successor some months ago, the Register Director says ”filling current RS vacancies will be at the forefront of our mission..... .....Applications for these vacancies are being shortlisted as I type and the successful candidates should be in position very soon”, so it looks like we’ll not have to wait much longer for our new Cayman RS - I wonder whether that will be before or after the promised email requesting applications, better late than never?

Andrew,

I also noticed that comment from the RD. Hopefully he's true to his word and that Kevan's replacement will be in place before the end of January, or early February at the very latest.

Jeff

Fingers crossed its sorted soon. And many many thanks to Kevan for keeping things going in the mean time.

it really is greatly appreciated. 👏
