Cayman Register Secretary

Great minds [8D]

Basically the RS roll is for Technical things a monthly write up in the PP

Try to keep members up to date with new models, occasionally a register is ask to provide cars for a display at an event.look after there web page and forum ect .

Anything more is a bonus and its not required to put on events or meets but to do a couple a year is a nice thing to do as long as it doesn't detract from Regions that's the social side of things.

Agree Jeff.

I think this fiasco might have put a lot of candidates off coming forward with all the politics and red tape, just don't see why its so difficult appointing someone.

We live in hope maybe one day Jeff. [;)]
As i mentioned earlier in this thread i had considered a punt at the roll but I didnt want to get involved in a popularity contest. given the feedback that candidates had withdrawn leaving no one to take the the role, to move this forward I had offered to pick up the RS spot but not heard anything. Possibly because I hadn’t gone thru the ‘formal’ process when out was open to interest. Ive just messaged Kevan on another issue and made the same offer.

The position as it appears to be at present, I received an email yesterday from a member saying that he is taking over the role and wishes to speak with me about what has gone before and what direction the register is expected to take etc, he also stated that my access to the Cayman Register outlook email has been removed, I checked that and it has, so I have removed outlook from my computer.

I won't give his name here but by the time I had checked the register listing to confirm who he was, the email had disappeared from both my email folders on my phone and computer. It didn't reappear when other emails came in from other senders so was not thought to be stuck in buffering or whatever. I emailed a staff member having heard nothing from club office but have not yet heard back, the sender told me that he had only applied last week and I know of another excellent candidate who also applied for the role last week. As far as I am aware that candidate has heard nothing so far. Anyone wishing to email me for more info please PM as the Club email no longer comes to me.

The new Cayman RS was introduced to the ROs and RSs at last night’s virtual open house, and no doubt he will come along and introduce himself to you all very soon.

I wish him all the best and I’m sure he will have your best interests at heart.

Hi Folks. I was going to do a proper introduction in a separate post as I get up to speed with what I have taken on but.... Having expressed an interest I was astonished how quickly I was appointed RS for the Cayman Register, basically over the last 72 hours. Really looking forward to the challenge.

I am based in North Yorkshire and can just about justify driving across the North York Moors to get to Sainsbury's, but I have taken the wheels off the car in order to resist the temptation! My road to Caymans was via Westfields and a Lotus Exige S2 which I enjoyed until purchasing a Cayman R (pdk) in 2014. I sold that in 2017 at 65000 miles, and got a 2015 Cayman GTS manual (aka 'the limo') which now sits at 45000, and it really hurts not to be using it.

My personal focus is road use and I would normally do at least two euro tours a year. I am retired from full time work so I am making the best use of my time. I am also blessed with a wife, Helen, who has no interest in my car fixation, but happily accepted the requirement to do 4000 miles in a Lotus over three weeks and still call it a holiday. I have enjoyed track days and hill climbing in the past and still do, but now only as a spectator. I try to get to at least one F1 race per year, Hungary, France and Austria being the last three, the main requirement being the ability to drive there. The Silverstone Classic and other venues where you can get close to the cars are big priorities, but sadly they look like being non-events this year. I enjoy the technical stuff and 'tinkering' with the car to make it mine, but I must admit to knowing nothing about detailing, although I really admire the dedication shown by those who enter and win concourse events.

Why a Cayman - well lack of weight is always good in a car, I like the handling of the mid engine layout and I prefer a roof. Coming to the Porsche brand for the quality of its engineering, fit and finish, there is no other choice. Enthusiasm for the model covers such a range, from the cheapest and, or, oldest 2.7, to the newest fully loaded GT4. The owners usually have a good story to tell and experiences to share, which is surely the essence of car club membership.

I guess my role is to represent the Cayman models within the club and support members who own them in whatever way PCGB has to offer. In doing that I hope to meet up with you when we are allowed back on the road and, in the interim, engage with you on social media, email etc. Please contact me on any Cayman / Club matters and especially if you can suggest ways in which I can do the role as effectively as possible, now and in the future.

Best wishes, John.

Thanks for the very interesting introduction John, it’s good to know that we now have someone back on the register helm!

Hi John.

Welcome be nice to see write up in the Porsche Post again.

I hope things go smoothly for you as RS I am sure Kevan can guide you with any problems.

All the best.

Cliff.

Hi John and a very warm welcome!

I see you have a Westfield in your motoring history, I currently run an early 80's pre lit alongside my Cayman. Also love a euro trip, and have booked to go to the Angloume classic car event in September with R10, and had planned to attend the Mille Miglia this month.

If the Silverstone classic goes ahead, perhaps we could have a Cayman get together for a beer and chat sometime over the weekend. I live just up the road from Silverstone, so if you need anything doing in this neck of the woods let me know.

Good luck and I'm sure we all look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Gary

I can only second all the above comments John.

Really good to have someone in the post at last ... and thanks to Ralph for standing-in for a short while.

All the best,

Jeff

Thank you all for the welcome and especially the offers of support! I will try to be be active on the forum and also on other media where we are present. PP will take a bit longer due to lead times. The May edition should be hitting in boxes soon but that was put to bed at the end of March, I suspect with little Cayman contact. Ralph kindly sorted the June edition so it will be the July edition, published at end June, where I will be able to really get started. I will post a separate thread on this.

I will monitor the forum so please don't hesitate to contact me through post or pm, and also I now have the email box Cayman@porscheclubgb.com. I will try to replay to all queries as promptly as I can.

Welcome to your new role John, we have a good number of keen and enthusiastic Cayman owners in Region 5 who I know will be delighted that at long last your post has been filled.

I know that they will be keen to support you where they can and get involved in any future Register events.

Good luck and best wishes,

Martin
