That said, whoever is eventually successful, please share the load, its a big club and this is a big register. I‘m sure that others like me will be happy to help to ensure that we have a successful and growing register inclusive of all its members.
Well said! It's pity people venting their feelings on here is now putting good people off of taking a post. As you say, I'm sure the majority will get behind whoever is successful and help out with events. I'm south midlands based, near Silverstone, I've flagged up the Rennsport Collective event at Stowe School, let's hope we can get a few up for that.gronk1967 said:I mentioned before I was considering throwing my hat in the ring, mainly because I wanted to try and get more events in the North which can feel a little remote to events at the Clubhouse. Like you I think this thread ihas shown the worst of the forum. Happy to help organize events, help out with the region as and when i can but it seems like any kind of official role is a world of pain. It reminds me very much about when i was involved in student politics, those days are long behind me now!

But can understand why you are not standing in difficult times all of a sudden everyone s an expert and knows better it can be a thankless task for a voluntary roll.
Enjoy your car and club without the politics that go with it at present.
Still think your the best person for the job with years of understanding club life.

I am now totally confused. I was told there were several people applied for the position. If there is no one then i will do it. someones need to.ralphmusic said:On the Open Session (Workers only I believe) we were told there had been only a few nominations/applications.

The comment I reported did not imply there were none or that there none left after withdrawals, just that it was a low number. We were led to expect an appointment shortly.

Helen, I also expressed an interest to the RD purely based upon the perception that Kevan was still in post because there wasn't a willing volunteer to take over.HelenGoff said:I am now totally confused. When I was told that there were a number of applicants (I think it around 1/2 dozen) and that a formal process to express interest and election was going to happen and that it was clear on this thread quite a few people were interested I decided that if others wanted the role I was happy to step back.
As I said above, for a register this size its probably worth the new RO trying to form a group of willing volunteers to help spread the load and ensure that owners in all regions get a fair crack of support for their activities from the club house.

i agree totally with this. For such a large register it is almost impossible for one person to cover the whole of the Uk alone. It very much needs to be a team effort.gronk1967 said:Helen,HelenGoff said:I am now totally confused. I was told there were several people applied for the position. Even in a tiny Register (Modified) we have an RS, me as deputy dog, and a Technical Adviser. We have just started PP content with monthly pieces on members' cars - saves me writing and it is as interesting to hear why mods were undertaken as what mods have been done.
Taking the Cayman Register, the RS would be advised to have assistants geographically spread over Scotland, North, South and possibly East. A technical adviser should also be co-opted. Registers should have technical competence and the geographic assistants should lead with cars and coffee and other events. I find Regions to be rather cliquey as a result of the strong social element whereas talking about specific car models encourages and facilitates interactions among members who have not previously met.

It’s difficult to avoid becoming cliquey. When I attended my first TVR Car Club meeting I found myself with a couple of other new members wondering where we fit in and by and by we found we’d become a bit of a clique ourselves.
With my Cayman & Coffee meets I try to at least introduce myself to all attendees but talking to 40 people over 2 hours allows only 3 minutes each. My wife usually attends these meetings but doesn’t want to talk Caymans so spends time chatting to those other register members she’s met before - then I join her for my coffee and bacon roll and worry that I’ve joined a clique!
Helen and Simon, I hope that you do reconsider your decision to withdraw your application if the position is still open.

Well I never actually submitted an application...I just volunteered assuming finding someone was going to be difficult...once I discovered there were already a few runners & riders each with supporters for and against I decided standing and god forbid being successful may be a poison chalice in this age of keyboard warriors.AndrewT said:Spot on Ralph.ralphmusic said:I find Regions to be rather cliquey as a result of the strong social element whereas talking about specific car models encourages and facilitates interactions among members who have not previously met.

That aside I'm enthusiastic and more than happy to help up here in the frozen North once the successful RS is in post...as it happens along with some like minded individuals we are trying to set up something similar to your Cayman & Coffee sessions in the North and have a good turnout promised for what will be the first gathering. What it has shown is that there are quite a few people willing to get involved who would be a great help to the new RS.
As an aside I am very jealous of your wife willing to be involved LOL
Regions are for events wotys social gatherings in general and club nights so if your regions are not catering for those needs there's a problem but from what I see they are providing more than enough events.
RS roll is to provide technical support technical seminars and clinic days either Opcs
Or independents occasionally register parking at main events if asked to.
That's it they don't have to provide any more but some registers do an occasional event
As registers we don't want to take events away from regions or main events dates clashing and all that.
Obviously both rolls you have to include monthly write ups in PP but an RS roll is less demanding so with that in mind I would have thought an RS post should be easier to fill.
Only my opinion of course as a long term member and RS assistant.
Don't think it will be long before the Cayman rs position will be filled then peace and harmony will return. []
It certainly has taken to long for you.
All the best.
