Cotswold rally

My thoughts on the "land glider" are as follows: I want to put the twin turbo V8 in it, but I have decided not to because I am looking at the serious prospect that I have about 10 or 11 months left in the UK before moving to NZ and I think I have more important things to do with 5-figure sums than engineer the first RHD LS1 944 conversion and stick a pair of turbos on it probably making it the only LS1 turbo 944 and the only RHD LS1 944 on the planet (as well as the only Autronic SM4 944...). It isn't just the fitting of the engine and plumbing the turbos, it's getting a transmission that won't just roll over and die when the taps are opened with up to 1,000bhp and corresponding planet-rotating torque. A tuned NA V8 is prohibitively expensive and an untuned one is not worth the effort of fitting over...

My next option, that I intend to take up, is an SPS/JMG engine of either 2.8 or 3.2 litres and as of just now I'm waiting for a quote from JMG for those options (nudge, nudge if you're reading this Jon...). I'll have Andy Moss fit the engine and connect it to the Autronic, then get Weltmeister to map it.

A last option is to buy a car and take the missing bits of mine off it to get mine going then break the remainder to cover costs. I very nearly contacted Ben about that option last week, but in all honesty I'm not missing the car at the moment so I don't need a stopgap engine in it and I'd not be happy with anything less than a "new" engine. I also don't much want the hassle of breaking a car when we might be looking to put our house on the market in a few months.

Another option would be to ship the car to NZ as-is and get a V8 fitted there, as the LS1 is relatively common in Holdens there, but I have a not insignificant problem of a registration plate that is worth more than the car ever will be to get off it and that requires an MoT and tax disc which in turn really requires the car not to be a land glider, unless anyone knows a very accommodating MoT station.

If Rick is serious about Baby WUF, and he's willing to paint it blue (or cover it in blue vinyl), then I'll sign up [:D]

So is the Land Glider going to NZ or should we start circling round it like vultures with 13mm spanners. [:D]

The intention is that it goes to NZ. As I indicated on the other thread it could go as a piece, not breaking to a stong bid for a car with no engine. In reality it's highly unlikely anyone would bid enough, though.

Another 944 added to the entries, no.89. No t-shirt though - just hope there's some nosh left when it gets to my end of the queue [8|]

Another 944, I scraped in at No 99 I think. My first event (except for Malvern in the 90's and Highclere a few years back) in 17 years membership. Looking forward to it.

We're 72 and 73 [:)]

I know it's not a compettive rally but if anyone see's my wife (Debbie) in the S2 looking like she will finish before me you have permission to block the road until I catch up [;)]

I reckon we'll win the Register prize, but only if you've all got a sticker on display.

I will have some with me on the day. Never been competitive, me......[:)]

Not necessarily!

I did enquire on the Cotswold Rally thread in Members Only and Geoff suggested that it wasn't cut and dried.

I fear that suggesting he (Geoff) was of Tolkenesque appearance (in another thread) may not have helped our cause. I was being nice about him at the time.

You could always come in your 944.....unless you like being sneered at and treated with disdain. [:D]

That's odd, I get sneering and disdain at all times [&:]

I'm holding off my Directorship vote until this Register prize looks like it's in the bag [:D]

am looking forward to going and putting some faces to names so no sneering!

What's this 'no tee shirt' nonsense? Assuming your name is Tony and you drive a 944 Turbo there are 2 shirts (1xM & 1xL) allocated to you. As far as 'nosh' is concerned all entrant will be given a picnic hamper ( paper carrier bag actually) so that no one is missed . As for the queue it is not in numerical order so there there early.
Remember to display your new style Register sticker to be counted towards the 944 tally for the award.
