Dyno Day Sat 25th Oct

ORIGINAL: Diver944
ORIGINAL: Fen I fitted a new grill to the Cherokee yesterday.
Is that so you can BBQ food or to bump people out of the way of your bonnet [&:] I've just got off the phone with Jon.M and my new clutch is now fitted [8D] Poor Jon was due to start this on Monday giving him plenty of time but unfortunatley UPS, Customs and my credit card company all conspired to delay the parts delivery so that Jon couldn't actually start the job until yesterday afternoon [] Now that my clutch is rated to hold torque up to 700ftlb I think it's safe to turn the boost up from the 12psi I've been running this year. Jon says my current setup will be perfectly safe to 20psi, but I've only ever run it at 18psi for short periods before (which was scarey enough) What should I set it to chaps? [;)]
I like the cooking grill idea, but it was just a standard one in front of the radiator. Anyway to answer the question (that you don't really need to ask), 20 of course.

ORIGINAL: 944Turbo Getting close, better finish putting the car back together ;) precautionary HG change, discovered 3 is looking scored :( Tony
Well its back together, and running ok, might get up extra early tommorow and fit the piggyback that has been lying around my house for a couple of months. At least my coolant isn't pressurising under boost any more - so far [&:]

ORIGINAL: Fen I replaced chrome with black, so I'll be 7bhp down now I guess.
S'ok you'll have added 8 ftlbs of torque, better with your big tyres - and it will look nicer [:D]

Really wanted to go today, but got lots of jobs to do with mrs and kids, hope you all have a great day with lots of great numbers![:)]Really looking forward to reading about it so lots of detailed post later please!!!

general feeling of low numbers, paul topped the list with around 330 i was just behind in the bhp with a 325ish but around half pauls torque. I accidently did a 22psi run as well, properly testing the new head gasket. All s2s were under 200. Good day though and nice to meet some new people.

Dissapointed with my results but very worthwhile going A boost leak was found [:(] the diaphram in the dump valve had split and thanks Tony for pin pionting the hose being detached beneath the throttle .The dump valve was replaced while still on the roller by the guys at Triton as they had a Bailey replacement in stock (Excellent in sorting small problems at the time so a Big hand to them also allowing re runs for a few others with slight problems which were found and corrected ) and the small silicon hose replaced with a new piece. A re run showed slight improvement but still a boost leak so .......... main sugestion is to replace the wastegate. Tom Homesea seems to have a good deal from Pauer tuning for the Tial kit so maybe this is the way to go !!!! I had been warned about the ground under foot when I bought the Turbo being very slippery and I can indeed feel the start of things to come as I start the slide to maximizing the capabilities of the 220T. Hope you get this Ollie Its only taken just over a year I remember well the conversation we had at Silverstone last year about leaving it standard. WILS 944 NOW BOASTS A SHINY SILVER TURBO WING DECAL AND REFLECTIVE PORSCHE WORDING IN THE RUBBER SPOILER !!!!![:D] cheers Rick for fitting them today Pics to follow tomorrow it was dark when we got home. Also thanks to Paul Harrison for the organising today, Rick Cannel for his hard work in Data collection and John Mitchell for hosting the BBQ I was very impressed by the workshop and apparent current work in progress . Wil

Seems some of the turbos were unexpectedly a bit low,and a couple had issues with leaks, etc. I was well happy with my S2 geting the highest score out of the other S2's[:D] with 192bhp, not loads I know but a loss of 16bhp over 19years is pretty respectable and says alot about Porsche engineering I guess. Some turbos were pushing out 330bhp though which is impressive from a 2.5L engine, well one was actually a 3.2L. [:-] Edd

Another great fun Dyno Day with lots of cars doing three figure speeds while going nowhere [] Thanks to Paul for organising it this year. My new clutch is quite a bit stiffer than the old one (as expected) and the bite point is very low down on the pedal took a while to get used to , but the good news is absolutely no slip at all [:)] After a bit of twiddling with the Greddy (and scaring myself silly with the power delivery) I set it to just under 20psi as agreed with Jon and set off for the Dyno. Unfortunatley a few of my horses seem to have run away and it only recorded 330bhp and 400 ftlb at a measured 18psi. Despite my butt dyno telling me this is the fastest the car has ever been the numbers themselves are obviously disappointing. The best thing though was that after 5 years, LIL finally managed to beat Tony F on an actual Dyno Day (there were a few comments when people noticed I'd been helping him set up his Vitesse Piggyback, but I have to declare my innocence :ROFLMAO: )

Could the "low" numbers mean the rollers would be in need of recalibration ? Still 400 lbs/ft is nothing to sneer at ...

Maybe, maybe not. One thing we have learned is that you simply cannot compare numbers between different Dynos on different days, even when they are the same make. All you can do is compare cars that were there on the same dyno on the same day.

Glad you had a good day guys. Sorry I couldn't make it but it seems someone has stolen several hours out of each day and weekends don't exist as such. So are these the "Rollers of Absolute Truth" or the "Rollers of Disappointment"? I kind of favour the first one 'cos we can then say " On the RAT Lil produced 330" [:)]

Nice to meet everyone yesterday. I was happy with 283 from a Vitesse MAF and EBC at 15 psi. The results showed that I really need to get around to installing the Tial and piggyback. Thanks to Paul, Rick, Jon Mitchell and his staff for organising.

Hope everyone enjoyed the event, I was aiming to show up for a look see BUT the gods conspired against me.[] Actually my mums back door refused to open and I had to play hammers and screwdrivers instead.[:(]

I seemed to arrive, say hi to a few people and then His Master's Voice rang to say my hour was up and lunch at the pub beckoned.....[&o] Good to see the ones I did meet, apologies to those who missed the pleasure of my company! I can confirm that Paul S was calibrating Tony's car in his absence. [;)][;)]
