Dyno Graphs

Cheers Jason - might be worth a shot.

My only problem with one is looks like a small bit of anodysed aluminium, which is expensive at £100! Does it have more gubbins in the middle that I can't see?

Unless anyone's got a second hand one they no longer require going cheap???

Carl - there is no other gubbins in the middle and again it is really simple to install it would take 20 mins max. There is plenty of expertise here in the use of the enhancer.

I understood that they contain a ball & spring valve to hold back the pressure from the wastegate.
I await correction.

Thanks for adding that Graeme - I read the question as if there were any other additional components other than the aluminium barrel.

If it is good enough for a 400+bhp 993 then it's good enough for me.

Perhaps you want to reconsider that these days?[;)]

You guys obviously need to find out if the same part fitted to the Tubo S (450bhp..should be OK for another year) Would there also be two of these on a 993 TT (Twin Turbo's ?)

You may be looking at the wrong graphs.

Unfortunately not - it made 218/180 at the wheels.

The boost graph probably tells half the story - it makes 11psi @ 4500, but tails down to @ 9psi by 6700rpm.

I would have thought however that there would be a lack of HP to go with the lack of Torque?

The AFR graph is also al over the place - starts of at about 11.8, falling sharply down @ 4500rpm to below 10, then steadily up again from 5500rpm to 12. At least it's not lean! Would I be right in thinking this could also be caused by a weak waistgate?

Anybody got any suggestions as to why the car still makes good HP with low boost?
Carl
The lack of torque is directly attributable to the low boost.

From this, Forge and Bailey DV's look like a worthwhile upgrade, while remaining relatively inexpensive (~£100).

Any comments from anybody who's used either before Itake the plunge?

Carl

Jon Mitchell fitted one to someones car last time I was there. Took about 2 minutes to do. Not sure what make it was but it looked good and cost around £70 IIRC.

Ok I'm confused about my AFR & Lambda graphs.
The Lambda starts at 0.9 @ 3000rpm stays around this figure till 5000rpm where it starts to dip to 0.84 @ 5750rpmwhere it stays +/- 0.2 till the end of the plot. From what I've read here this is ok.
My AFR plot starts at 13.0 @ 3000rpm rising to 13.4 @ 3750rpm then falls to 12.4 @ 4400rpm then rises again to 13.2 @ 5100rpm then plummets to 12.1 @ 5700rpm finally climbing steadily to finish at 12.6.
If what I read earlier is correct this means that from 3000rpm to 5500rpm I am running lean, but the lambda printout says all is good.

After speaking to Rick about this I realise (as he told me) the lambda plot seriously compresses the scale as it runs from 0.2, which is so ridiculously rich it isn't true.

That means the AFR plot has much better resolution to see changes, hence you will see the difference; it's amplified if you will. Even 13.4 isn't lean, over 14.7 is lean.

Thanks Allan - that's what I wanted to hear. And while I'm on, thanks for the crack during Saturday (the conversation type obviously!), you can tell you love what you do for a living, and to be honest. I'm more than a little envious of that!

All the best

Carl

Hi Carl,

I have a Forge DV fitted - looks well designed and easy to fit.

I can also vouch for the boost enhancer, it was the first mod on my last 951, one of the best £100 i spent on that car

Matt

Ooooh, noooo, you didn't want to get that one.

Only joking, it should be fine. I do find it slightly off-putting when there are spelling mistakes in the advertising blurb though (brakes when they meant breaks in this case; my pet hate when it's the other way around).

I'm back to looking again - the guy hasn't replied, and according the website, the shipping will be $121 by UPS.

I'm finding it hard not to swear.........

Interesting article, anyone want to make one ? :)

If I read that right, doesn't it just measure the amount time between the cyliders firing?

Don't we already have a device beside the speedo that does that already?

may be worth trying lindsey racing - looking at some old bills, they only charged $80 to ship an intercooler to the UK
