Engine Out

Thanks!

Nice work! The car really does look great, you will have to buy a larger trophy cabinet for the next concours season! [:D]

coming together nicely

It looks fantastic.

Was there any particular reason for doing it or just time for a refresh ?

Given the number of things you have "corrected" I wonder how much power you will gain --- once it is properly run-in.

Chris initially I wanted the scruffy looking engine brought back to life and any unknown mechanical issues rectified, there was nothing major found apart from plastic intake manifolds & sealing rubbers, spark plug leads, & the resonance flap on the varioram was previously incorrectly
assembled with an 'o' ring & spacer washer missing, with the 'o' ring seal missing, any oil inside the varioram tends to leak out over the engine, there was a small leak from the tappet cover, once the mechanical tappets were adjusted, new seals were fitted to the covers.
I would expect a small power gain given the inlet manifold sealing rings to the varioram were split and therefore not sealed, also the resonance flap could have been faulty due to a spacer washer missing, this could have prevented the open and shut operation to be compromised therefore insufficient
air entering the varioram above 5500 rpm ( this is activated to optimise intake length and induce intake charge oscillations < resonance charging > end result - increased intake air velocity & better fuel atomisation,) a good way of checking is to listen to a click when the ignition is turned on, this is the vacuum solenoid actuator moving the resonance flap inside the varioram, a procedure designed to prevent the flap from seizing up due to internal contamination build up.

I saw in the metal this morning when I called in to Unit 11. It really does look stunning in the metal. [8D]

I think they're just waiting for you to do a bit more engine bay and gearbox tunnel cleaning Steve, before they pop it back in [;)]

Not more cleaning[] called in this afternoon, engine and box installed now, should be ready this week hopefully.

Looking good Steve,

I may be imagining it, but I thought you mentioned something about going back to standard exhausts or more likely headers at some point?
