Engine Out

Yes I did Paul, wanted to use the standard rs headers with the cargraphic 100 cell race cats, to do this I needed the link pipe that fits between the two, I just didn't have the time to source them, I can always change at a later date,
Ive heard the standard headers are the same if not better than the cargraphic, but the 100 cell race cats are a definitive improvement over the restrictive standard rs cat, then the question is the rs has been mapped for the full CG system and was not too sure if I would have to have another
re map to suit the rs headers, I also want the clubsport heater bypass tube at some point, the parts alone for this project are around £1500.00 then a lot of labour charges so any other expenditure is on hold for the time being !
its one pampered RS for sure [:(]

Why don't you colour code the Fan Steve?
Yes thought long and hard about this one Des, it was originally green which I'm led to believe was the signature colour of RS tuning engines but I wanted to be sympathetic and keep it standard beige but powder coaters cant replicate that colour,
I could have had it sprayed but its not as hard wearing as the powder coating, so it was silver to match the housing, I would have liked to kept the magnesium housing eau natural but it well past any cleaning process.

I will relay your advise to the fine technicians at unit 11, on the other hand are your body panels lined up as good [:D]

Looks fantastic Steve [8D], I'm tempted to have my 64RS done now I've seen yours. Definitely a good advert for Unit 11.

Presumably they sub-con the plating, polishing and finishing type work to 3rd parties?

Well here is the finished engine, a lot of work but great end result [:D]

M6 Southbound, 1 hour +, 6 miles! Put a smile on my face seeing a Riviera RS travelling in the opposite direction in the congestion of black, grey and other drab cars, quite surreal.

Looks great Steve,

There are going to be some real competition for the trophy's next year.

Are you keeping all the heater gubbings in?

Did you decide against the RS pipe in the end? I assumed you would have fitted it if you were going to rather than get the spanners out again.

Have you cured the induction leak, does it make any difference to how it drives?

I expect the new ignition parts make it run smoother also?

Paul, the heater bypass is on hold, the parts spend was much more than first anticipated at over £1600.00, the heater bypass is over £150.00 and Ive spent enough, the induction leak is well sorted, the engine starts better and idles better when cold, and it sounds more crisp, so a result albeit an expensive result with
over 60 Hrs of labour to complete the total overhaul, most expensive part was the spark plug leads @ £215.00, the cheapest was the new air con pipe support bracket @ £3.42.

Oh no not southbound, was you in the 60 mile queue ? yep was me heading north from Unit 11, M6 horrific today[]

Wow!

60 hours!...

Even at £1600 ex parts you got a deal.

The plug lead set also sounds reasonable at that price, so in spite of all you seem to have got your moneys worth and the car runs better.....

Will it ever see the track again, now it is no doubt quicker? [;)]

wish it was, no the parts bill was £1600, then the labour charges on top, guess each car will be different depending on what is found upon dismantling, this was more than I expected but other than the cosmetic work, it did have a big service, tappets adjusted, and loads of parts replaced.

Ouch...I didn't interpret that so well.....best open a bottle of something, or have a lie down.... [:D]

The quality of the work will still be there once the pain of the bill has gone...apparently! [:D]

Will do harry, should be finished v soon. The bodyshop has taken a very LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time but work is good. Once complete it will just need a few weeks to cure and then paintshield either front end or whole thing!

You did OK there Steve because as you say each car is different. Mine required similar labour but being a lot older meant that it was one of those that needed a lot more parts. Hence the bill was quite a bit more. After a few miles driving the wallet pain disappears and the smile comes back bigger than before [:)]

Steve that looks fan-blo**y-tastic. A real credit to those that did the work and yourself. Only problem, it has got me thinking now!

Cheers.
