EX-OPC DEMONSTRATOR

Del,

Congrats on the new car. I have just seen this thread and would just like to add that my 968 is an ex Chiswick OPC demo and it is in perfect health and still going strong after nearly 11 years! Looking back through the history there is nothing to suggest it has shown any ill effects of being thrashed or otherwise in its formative days. I think you are on to a winner - enjoy!

An amazing thread just to add my thoughts. We have three cars in the family a VW, a Porsche and a Ford all are 03 plate cars two of them were privately owned and one is an ex-Avis car. The only car not to have any warranty repair and needing to go to the garage between services is the ex-Avis car the rest have needed work.

So I don't think it matters as I am sure the ex-avis car has seen a much more active live than the others and more so than an ex-demo. It's the Ford that hasn't need to see the garage between services.

Just enjoy the car everyone has views on the amount of risk they are prepared to take but any car is a risk whether it's ex-rental, ex-demo or brand-new.

I had second thoughts about buying an ex-demo BMW once. I fretted that it might have been thrashed within an inch of its life.

Then I took a step back and looked dispassionately at my own driving style. I stopped worrying and bought it. It was a fantastic car. It really was.

My mother bought an ex dem BMW 730i V8 with 5k on the clock. By 9k it needed a new engine (replaced FOC)
I wouldn't have thought that a 7 series is the type of car that gets thrashed at demos tho.

That just goes to show that failures can occur irrespective of the age or care afforded to a vehicle. I'm satisfied that I made the correct choice and trust that my Boxster S will be as trouble-free as David's 968. I hope that I don't find the need to 'eat my words' during this weekend's Cotswold Rally!

Fair enough, if they can get away with it then fair play to them. Shame in the US they offer sometime like 4 years.
But doesn't change my point that it shows a lack of confidence in their own products.

But surely Porsche having confidence in the product has nothing to do with it. It's marketing and public opinion. As long as UK order lists remain the way they are why should Porsche Cars Reading want to cut off a £700+ per unit per annum cash cow unless they really have to?

The States warranty is a result of just that. I had a Plymouth Belvedere in 1975 which when new in 1966 had a 3 year 100k warranty.

If you are worried about the car being thrashed could you not ask to see the diagnostic computer readout as it shows how long the engine has been in various rev ranges and could give you an idea of how it has been used.

I did! However, not being an expert in the interpretation of the printout, I was at the mercy of the OPC's honesty in telling me what it meant! I saw the printou - and retain a copy; I was assured that all was well![;)]
