Favourite bit/trait of your 944

Chaps,

OK, my last thread on here descended into a myriad of sharp comments and nastyness, and was (rightly) shut down by an indignant Mr McNulters when he came back from his holiday, before it descended into a black-hole of negative-clubbyness (if there is such a thing.)

So here is a nice simple thread, which shouldn't cause any disagreement at all. It's open to everyone (that's members and non-members, old and young, fat and thin) who has ever owned, driven, sat in, seen or even heard of a 944. (Actually, that's a bit open. Let's say you need to have driven a 944 to post in here. Fair enough? OK, let's get on with it ... )

And the thread itself? It's simple. What is your favourite bit of a 944? That's favourite bit or favourite trait. It could be the pop-up lights. It could be the handling and roadholding. It could be the acceleration, or top speed (lots of S2 owners will be voting for these I suspect.) It could be the way that the indicator stalk works (or not - sorry Scott! [;)]). It could be the seats, or the layout of the dashboard, or the shape of the door handles, or the history, or the admiring glances fine young fillies give you when they see you in it (never happens to me, but I suspect that may be for other reasons .... )

I'll open the running. My favourite bit of my 944 is the steering feel - the way that the steering wheel communicates so much information, and you can tell what is happening at all four corners of the car just just by holding it.

Right - your turn. Only one thing each (greedy people who mention more than one thing will incur my neverending wrath. Or at least a disparaging glance if I ever get to meet you. If I remember, that is.)

The best thing about a 944 is the steering feel, the handling. Feeling like the whole car is pivoting its weight around the driver's seat.

I really don't know how to separate those things from each other, I just sum it up as "˜how it feels to drive'.

The best thing about my 944 as opposed to anyone else's would either be that boooost feeling or the downright badass looks. Mine's one sexy looking piece of metal, I tell you.

After I've sat in the beautifully polished cream leather seats, heard the grunt as it fires into life and felt the acceleration (even though LIL's a Lux she's a damn sight faster than my 2 Ltr E39 !!) simply the most beautiful thing is the flare of the rear arch in my wing mirror.

Perhaps I'll stick a photo up here at the weekend....

PS - much less contentious...[;)]

That's what I was going to say... but instead I shall say instead that it's the stunning moment mid corner where you feel the back start to slide and with a quick flick of the wheel bring the whole thing under control and rocket out of the corner. Pure driving pleasure, and it's all down to how responsive and communicative the 944 is. I love it.

Its a hard call to name only 1 favourite bit, I have so many things I love about the car, so in fairness if I have only this one option it has to be ...........PERFORMANCE [:D]

On the negative side it has to be that damned semi unreadable clock! (must find something to replace it apart from an over expensive Porsche item)

Chaps,

Right, that's four posted replies, and all but one of them gave more than one 'favourite' aspect of their 944.

I'll need to practice my disparaging glances, clearly. They may need to be used quite a lot.

Oli.

P.S. Oh and well done John/Ephraim. I *think* you only mentioned one thing in there.

P.P.S. Colin, stop apologising for the fact that LIL is a Lux. There's no "only" in there, she is a very fine machine in her own right. Carry on down that track and we'll be referring to 'only' Turbos next ...

Progressive oversteer and, in the case of the sports seats, the best seats I've ever sat in. And the acceleration. And the noise. And the feel-good factor. How many goes were we allowed again?

Does 'all of the above' count as one go? ;)

One thing that sticks out is the anticipation of driving it; being stuck at work, seeing the sun come out and knowing theres any number of b-roads available in a couple of hours. Ironically I cycle home then use up gallons of petrol driving it for no practical reason. It reminds me of whne I first started driving and would simply go exploring.

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts...

Oh and the engineered trapezoid keys to get the hood down on a dry day.

For me I'd say the comfort, the seating position for me feels really natural and comfortable and im not what you'd call small.
The flair of the wheelarch in the side mirror i agree with! The performance i agree with too!
i hav't had the opportunity to take it round a track and start finding the limits of grip but i do agree also with the handling! (theres a few mini round abouts between my work and my house i treat as little chicanes - working nights has its advantages[:D] - clear roads! ).

I've cunningly mentioned only one thing and simply agreed with everything else, does that count as one comment and thus avoid the scornful wrath of Oli?

Nice try, but sadly too late; one large portion of wrath ordered for the big gent in the white S2! [;)] You can enjoy it at the same time as everyone else enjoys theirs ... :ROFLMAO:

Now, is there anyone here who can count? (Or rather, can't count beyond one?)

Oli.

P.S. Keep 'em coming chaps. It's all good stuff.

The feeling of pride I still get every time I see it on the drive, even after 5 years of ownership. I don't get that from my van, for some reason...[&:]

The way it goes around a big roundabout near my house [:D], I've had the power, brakes and attention it gets before, but nothing that hangs on like this car does [:)].

Mine is so unsorted at the moment that i am going to be a bit different and maybe a bit odd. It was something i only noticed the first time i washed the car

My Favourite* thing is the god damn sexy anodised metal door handles with PORSCHE embossed in them. i know Porsche like to splash their name everywhere, but i think the door handles are just pure class

*yeah okay, so even in its current state its really one of the many things already mentioned, just not sure which one. I have had quite a few different/special/fancy cars, but none have so much that makes me smile

Apart from the dynamics already mentioned, let me add practicality.... for example, last week SWMBO and I drove 110 miles to check out an original Art Nouveau fireplace we'd located. The aim was to see it in the metal and have a nice run out.

Having decided to do the deal, I thought why pay £50 for delivery if by chance it would fit?

As luck would have it, clothed in bubble wrap, it just slotted in between the rear arches. So the saving paid for the petrol and lunch.....don't you just love your 944 [:D]

To Mr Smith:

Git. ( [:)] ) (And you seriously need to get out more if you think I am 'special') (No, please don't comment on this.)

Oli.

I get two goes as I have two 944's, seems fair to me :ROFLMAO:

White car: Everything

Red car: Much nicer than getting the bus. [;)]
