are you nuts? youve barely had her over a week! need to give it chance i think first. you have a really nice example there and you might not be so lucky next time with an earlier car. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think I am!! [:D] It has been two weeks though lol. I'm not desperate to sell but will see what happens. As much as I like the S2 - and I do like driving her, she doesn't excite me as much as the square dash models as she's just sooo smooth. If I wanted a daily driver this would be perfect but for a weekend car and a bit of fun it's almost too nice. If it had the brutal kick of a Turbo or the V6 roar my old VR6 Golf had I'd keep her but sadly I think she has to go. It's the right thing to do in my heart, but my head is saying I am completely mad as this really is such a good car. First time I've ever done anything like this!!

Andy, if you have a well sorted car sitting on your drive way then PLEASE think long and hard before disposing of it and buying an another. There aren't many well sorted cars around. You may regret it.... If you really are so keen on a square dash why not set aside (say) a £1500 budget and pick up useable model and keep both over the summer and make a decision going into the winter?

Yeah I have to agree, the grass may look greener from where you are, but the S2 is one capable car. Perhaps you could just give it a bit longer and see? i would drive some really long distances in it and then see how you feel.[;)] Edd

Andy, your S2 does looks a lovely example but you know what I'm thinking [;)]. You've been bit by the square dash bug .... [:D] So long as you're not in a rush to sell, you should get a decent price for your S2 but the right buyers don't usually turn up straight away. Actually, I'd even go as far to say you'll attract an awful lot of time wasters and dreamers before you get a real buyer come along - Porsche seem to be magnets for muppets out for a jolly. Had the conversion about advertising yesterday, with someone else. I wouldn't bother with Pistonheads, personally, seems to attract the aforementioned test pilots. eBay is usually decent, get it on a Classified Ad for 30 days, Car and Classic is a good source of advertising - I've both bought and sold cars from there. The forums are an excellent source of advertisement, they're free and do generate sales leads. There are plenty of other forms of media but in my opinion, eBay, car and classic and the marque specific forums are the best. Remember to write a good ad. Might be a good prompt to have some subtitles in there e.g. "Body", "Interior", "Engine and Drivetrain", "Service History" etc. - it helps to break up a big block of text. From what I've seen, you've got a car worth shouting about - so tell the customer base what is great about this car! The more info you get on there, the better. Good luck, Nicola P.S. Right, lets find you a 'proper' 944 [;)]

Simkin - Thought had already crossed my mind tbh but with three cars already I've no more space. I can't fault the car in anyway, but it just doesn't 'wow' me dare I say it, it's almost too nice. I know that sounds daft but really need something more raw - either the square dash or maybe one day an the brutal shove of the turbo pixie - thanks for your advice. It's already scheduled to go up on ebay tonight, will have a look at the add text too. I'm in no hurry to sell so will take my time, you never know if it takes a while maybe it will grow on me more! Shame you can't make Rutland now today, was looking forward to pawing over your square dash and new interior![;)] My apparent lack of sanity is understood - I really haven't been in this situation before of wanting to sell off so quick a really good, sorted car, but that's life I guess - this is purely a toy for me (as opposed to a commuter vehicle) so it has to pull at the heart strings as well as the head Cheers Andy

What the scooby or the girlfriend? [:D]
either, although don't tell wife about the girlfirend !! Only joking, scoob mate, awesome cars ! - well mine was.[8D]

is this too far out of budget andy? i bet its raw, got a square dash and look amazing! [link=http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2432533.htm]s2 replacement[/link]

cheers for the link - Mmmm, nice - but out of budget. [:(] Bet it would be fun to drive though

944 owner in "S2 not for me thanks" shocker ! How could such a thing be ???[;)] I would however echo others suggestions that you try the whole S2 ownership experience for longer than a couple of weeks to better appreciate its depth of abiilties before selling it (especially such a nice example)

Andy Keep it for longer and see if it grows on you. Anyone looking at your advert will see 2 weeks ownership and assume you've found something horrible and just want shot of it - if I didn't know the owner that's what would concern me I'm afraid. Know what you mean by too civilised - that 1987 944 oval dash I just bought seems not nearly as raw (classic car like) as the 1979 924 I've had for ages. I'm intending to go to the autumn (or later if I can get away with it) before deciding which to keep. If I kept 2 toys long term though, they wouldn't get enough use and standing around can be as bad as too many miles.

Just got this months 911 and Porsche World mag in the post...full buyers guide on the......wait for it........944S2.....they obviously thought long and hard about which model to review......the S, the Turbo, the square dash.....and came back to the BEST LOL! [:)] ....nice title "Perfect Bargain - As your first Porsche, or as a fun daily driver, there are few cars to beat the 944S2. Timeless styling, well-sorted drivetrain and fully-functional hatch back - what could be more perfect for a daily taste of Porsche driving please?" sums it up really!! Andy.......think mate....think hard [;)]

I know you all think I'm mad - I'm hoping I don't prove you all right![:D] The only analogy I can think of is James Hunt used to drive an Austin A35 van, no super cars. He said it was far more challenging and fun to chuck the A35 around twisty A and B roads than any super car. I'm not likening myself to James Hunt - or a 944 to an A35!!lol - but the S2 is so smooth and modern feeling by comparison it's not raw enough for me. Although I converted to the S2 it was only because it is such a sorted car. I always wanted a square dash model and still need to fulfil that dream I'm conscious though that it may not sell quick, like mentioned I've only owned it two weeks which may raise alarms, in which case I'll just keep on enjoying it [8D]

I liked the bit "..... Autocar went so far as to judge the 944s2 as the finest handling car on the British market in 1989". I guess it was lucky it wasn't competing with the square dash 944 for new sales - phah! Seriously, good luck with whatever you decide but THINK CAREFULLY! BTW, what the hell is going on with that car in the magazine? Check out the mirror bases and door handles and the grotty looking seats with only 52k on the clock. It's certainly one of the most expensive out there but I'd wager there are many more desirable S2's owned on this forum. Bring back Sc0tty! [:D]

Haven't seen the article, but you're probably right. That's why we set up a Display Register, specifically to create a database of cars that can be put forward when there is a need for one particular model, colour etc. Sadly, not all magazines come to us first, and some well-known TV shows abuse the system! []

I saw that online a few weeks ago - he must have dropped the price as I'm sure it was up for about £5k before. Looks nice but would have to lose the Porsche sticker down the side, not my cup of tea! Wish I had £19k burning a hole in my pocket though - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2559801.htm [8D]
