GTS 4.0

Hi Gav

Preston is my OPC but try Chester as well. They gave me a very good price on my 718 Base a year ago but Preston were slightly better.

Dan.

Many thanks, Dan! I’ll give them a ring tomorrow.

Check this monster out. Such a shame to waste a build slot!!

Wow - huge spec… but *quite* the colour scheme! [:'(]

I don’t mind the exterior colour (not that I would have picked it), I quite like the aurum wheels, yellow dials and PCBs… Ok I can see what they’re doing, light coloured interiors not for me… but really, all together?? I think the salesman must have been looking at the commission on the options and having a bet with a mate in used car sales :p

Great news Glenn. Wont be long now. I'd say about a week to 10 days and it'll be rolling off the production line.

Congratulations Glenn, you have some patience, nearly an 18 month wait.

I hope you have managed to get all the options and spec you always wanted.

Look forward to some photos.

Mine came off the transporter a few days ago and the OPC sent me some photos of the car with all its protection cover still in place. Just been PDId and I collect on the 3rd April when I get back to the UK. Being forced to take out the Tracker as the value is over 85K.

I'm in exactly the same position Glenn. The waiting frustration / excitement score is quite high here :ROFLMAO:

Received my notification today. No indication when delivery might be though. Preston said a few weeks ago it might be end of May?

How are you guys selling your existing cars? Seems to be a big margin between what dealers offer and what they sell for?

There will always be a margin between what an OPC buys and sells at. You need to take into consideration if they need to add a warranty, any servicing or repairs and they need to prep the car for sale. Saying that, I sold my last 718 to Preston and they put it on the forecourt for £10 less than I paid for it 18 months earlier.

Who's your SA at Preston?

Dan

Yes I appreciate that, and I know they did a lot of prep on my (preloved) car before I took delivery. Never the less £7-8k margin seems a lot for a car that has just had a major service and is still under warranty? The answer of course to sell privately.

Richard Mander is the SA. Top man.

Snap.... Richard is my SA as well.

We put our Merc on Motorway and sold in 3 days. Well worth selling privately if you think you can get more.

Dan

We all know the 4.0 pdk 0-60 is less than four seconds.

The bulkhead will unlikely be different being derived from the 981, which has always featured a flat 6. Seat height difference I suspect.

Otherwise an interesting video, both are competent but I prefer the six cylinder soundtrack.

I was worried when I saw the description of the video, however watching it, boy am I glad I am picking up the BGTS 4.0, it just sounds awesome.

Surely his issue with the seating position has to just be adjustment. Mine is coming with 18 ways, so hopefully I will be able to get very comfortable and I am only 5' 11".

Yes his 0-60 comparison is flawed.

With regard to setting up and activating Porsche Connect Services. This is showing on my My Porsche App and I have the activate button. However I don't really want to activate this until mid next week, but I will be travelling back from Spain with limited time to set this up.

If I click activate, does it activate Porsche Connect straight away, or does it give you the option of choosing future date for this to start?

It activates straight away however, if you're picking up a new car the dealer will need the code that comes when you initially activate PC at PDI so they can set up all the services including the tracker.

Dan

Thanks Dan,

That's what I thought, it will have to wait then. No point in wasting free Porsche data minutes.

Good video comparison but such a shame some of his facts are wrong

It appears that he’s muddled up the different ways where a cars weight is measured.

The DIN weight of a 718GTS (2.5) PDK is 1405kg, and the DIN weight of 718 GTS 4.0 PDK is just a little higher at 1435kg. So not the massive difference claimed. Easy mistake to make though.

Might go some way to understanding why the 4.0 was quicker. More power same weight. (Worn tyres not an excuse on a dry road either)

Using EC weights the six cylinder car is actually lighter at 1510kg against 1531kg for the turbo 4.

So all that “it feels lighter” stuff is just expectation bias it would seem.

The leg room thing is weird though. Perhaps the GTS 4.0 had eighteen ways and GTS 2.5 had the 2 way seats? That might explain it as the 18 way seats are bulkier. It’s a shame he didn’t mention it.

Leg room is a bit of a cause for concern. I have 18 way in my 981 and its just big enough. Have ordered 18 way for the new car.

Suspect Graham is right. The engine bulkhead will be a fixed point so the extra bulk of the electric motors has to go somewhere?

Cannot find interior dimensions anywhere. Overall it would appear to be 2" longer which I hadn't thought about. That's going to make it a tight fit in the garage!
