Horizontal fan on a 911? LOLA PORSCHE

[:)] It was the second start-up to be honest, the first one was far more dramatic! The motor needs to go to Bob Watson now for tuning. The vid was with the engine at TDC and a crude timing of the dizzy and carb settings (guesses to be sure!) A lot more still to do, but being let down by the UK motorsport supply base yet again.(wheels) It is getting a bit hit or miss for the first hillclimb in July.[8|]

[:D] That was a given, dear sir. Now remember, she will be ready when she's ready. Just don't forget to let the forum know the date of the first outing, whenever it may be. If we can be patient, so can you. JohnC 993turbo

Still tons to do but some progress every weekend, every day, every evening, every hour ....[8|]

Things are looking brighter. Wheels back from Dymag and slicks popped on. Not exactly fresh tyres, but OK for now. Really fresh sticky ones for the start of next year.[;)] All the suspension is aligned using a borrowed camber gauge and fishing line. Surprisingly accurate. Checked the truth of the tub too, all +/- 2mm. good job having come this far. Brakes all done, and now over a set-back on the dreaded driveshaft front on Sunday. A silly mistake by me about 5 months ago.[8|] I've a lot to learn. Looks like it will be delivered to Bob Watsons now for a weber/ign tune. Will be back off hols in 3 weeks then the last big push on the body, the seat, the stickers and the timing strut! (plus a lot more detail I'm sure) I've entered the mid July hillclimb at Loton Park. I wonder if I really will actually make it there, let alone up the 1 mile hill at 170 mph....Gulp. Oh, sorry; 17 mph. Planning a private session on a track beforehand just incase it breaks somewhere. If so, then the trusty 911T will be woken-up and thrashed instead![:D]

It looks really good without the body - we can see all your work. Would it be quicker on tight climbs to run lighter and naked?

The Naked bit has been said before, but the micky-taking I would get from the hillclimb Zoo would be hard to bare.. I would also have to keep it clean! Car back from Bob Watson's today, all running sweet, so the race is now truely ON!

Hi Graham, good to see it is running. When you say mid July, do you mean the 11th/12th July weekend at Loton? The entry description doesn't really mention a category for a 3.2 Lola :)

No bhp/lbft as the engine mounting needs a rework, so asked Bob to tune off'rolling road' for now. The car is entered in class G for the 2 Loton meets over that weekend Gary, so I am gunning to be there! (entries not confirmed as yet) The engine (to me) sounds fab, and just so solid. The things sounds so deep-lunged it is full of promise. I have a 22 strong list to do and this weekend is the biggest, and the rest small, so it stands a very good chance of being there in full song. I hope the driver is as ready.[;)] Am I ever lucky:[:)]

The pre-race is really on now, and it will be down to the wire for the Loton meeting. I decided to move the engine and box back 40mm to get the drive shafts as straight as possible! Should have done this months ago, but bit the bullet and 16 hours later the lot was done and painted. Looks a whole lot better, but an exercise I would rather forget. This changed the gear shift position that took an age to fix, but now have all 5 speeds and feels very posative. Imagine a 915 gearchange with a stick length 4 times shorter....and on the right hand side! [&:] The seat and custom made belts are in, the clutch then would not work. Changing the master cyl and the slave fixed that and took an age and £150 but OK now. The body is being finished off, but I hate the Pip Pin locations which are pure Lola Very hard to get right. The front body has no water splash aprons behind the front wheels so you get drowned if it rains . Not Good, so I'm making those now! A big time-eating job I did not expect to do which adds pressure. So: What is left to do? The splash guards Timing strut Polish and stickers and numbers roundals Adjust the seat belts after lining the seat with foam. Add an unberella somewhere. I have this week, next weekend and the rest of the week after, so doable I think. Not much else except add petrol and take a very deep breath. This is going to be quite a wake-up shock. Yikes![;)]

It is finally finished. At least it is for the testing. The car is at Loton Park sat/sun next weekend for my very first run in the car, but i will be happy if the whole 'event' passes by without drama! So much has happened over the last 3 weeks and the results are here:

Thanks Mark. Not sure (today) if I would do it again (this way) but it has been a roller-coaster. I hope that it will not dissapoint, but at this stage in projects, I am usually dissapointed! Time will tell, and I must give myself some time too.
