Husborne Crawley

ORIGINAL: Diver944

I'm always mindful that people who may not have been to many events won't know each other and that its very easy for the regulars to get cliquey.

That's why I set up the link to the Titanic Diary for people to post their mobiles, encouraged people to bring a two way radio set to channel 5 and also said we'd be in the Rose and Crown for lunch at 12 noon.

If I had found a 2.7 head I would have been easily identifiable skipping round the field with it strapped to my head in glee [:D]
It was a good idea for the pub lunch Paul. I even managed to make it to South Mimms where I met up with Richard (wolfie308) and Fen - nice to put faces to the names! Also saw Rick again having briefly met at Brands and met yourself for the first time. I didn't catch the names of the couple at the end of the table in the pub though and can't remember the guys name who had the Baltic blue turbo and S with a knackered head from Bramley near Basingstoke? I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the autojumble, so didn't find anything useful but the social side was good and my extended spin in Fen's car due to us getting a little lost was great - quite a nippy little motor that! Anyway enough rambling - hope to see some of you again soon.

Hi Nathan,

That was me and my friend Rich.
My car was poorly last weekend so we were in Rich's BMW!

Sian

Sian is normally easy to spot, she'll be heading for the kiddies trampolines or remote control model cars [:D]

The guy with the Baltic Blue turbo (just like mine - sob [:(]) was Rob Holmes from West Midlands Region. His was the Turbo featured on Fifth Gear a couple of years ago being driven (sedately) by Tiff Needell.

Speaking of Baltic Blue Turbos, I've been to see my LIL down in sunny Bournemouth today. She was looking very forlorn sitting outside Jon Mitchells workshop with no head on her engine. He showed me the mess thats left of the turbocharger after a nut came loose in the airfilter box and also the scoring it caused on cylinder #1 [:(]

The good news is I dropped off the block and head that is being used to rebuild my 3.0 litre monster [8D]. I shall now stick my neck out and say that the next time I attend an event it will be in a reborn Baltic Blue LIL [:D]

Nice to meet you Sian (and Rich) - should have introduced myself properly on the day really - sorry!

Paul - it's no good telling us what was left of the turbocharger - we wan't to see the gruesome pics!

I know, I know [8|] All the way down there I kept telling myself to take a pic on my mobile but I totally forgot. I also thought it would be a very humorous pic to see a Porsche engine in my VW van when you think that the first of our lineage had a VW van engine in a Porsche. But yet again I was woefully remiss in the memory department

One day...........

Hi Paul,
Funny you should say that, here's one we took yesterday [:D]

So the transaction is done - I guess the engine checked out OK in terms of compression etc?[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]When do you think you'll have it fitted and running?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Fen,
JZ are working on it at the moment, they're fitting it in between jobs so it will hopefully be ready in about 2-3 weeks. At the same time they'll also be doing the belts etc, some gaskets, lightening the flywheel and changing the clutch (I decided to go for a Porsche one in the end, there wasn't really time to import the one I wanted from the States).
Best regards,
Peter.

I've asked Andrew to get me a Lindsey Racing lightened flywheel and Spec Stage II clutch. He reckons I could have it within a couple of days if I want it that quick?

BTW, not wishing to cause distress but, that looks very much like an S2 engine. I hope you aren't thinking of squeezing that into your lightweight Lux? Previously I stood a chance of keeping up with someone on a track day, now what chance will I stand? [:D]

Hi John,
Thanks, I should have thought to give Andrew a call, that's a very speedy service.
In hindsight, from a cost point of view the standard part will be slightly cheaper and will easily be up to the power I will be running for the forseable future, so its not that big a loss and will free up funds for use elsewhere. I'd have bought a lighter flywheel but no one seems to make an Aluminium one for the S2, but hopefully Dave will be able to rework what's in there at the moment to get the best from it.
Best regards,
Peter.

There's always Rick [:D]

Andrews getting me a Spec II clutch as well. As soon as my new block has been stripped and inspected a nice fat order for internal bits will be going in []

Apologies for being a peasant, but what is Husborne Crawley exactly - assuming some sort of boot sale thingy? I'm guessing it's not actually based in Chav Central (Crawley) and therefore near me [:D]

It's a twice-yearly Porsche autojumble located near Woburn. To be honest nowadays it's of limited interest for non-squashed-Beetle parts, but it's an excuse for a get-together and pub lunch.

Paul,

It's PCGB shorthand for a twice yearly Porsche-specific autojumble. Organised by Alan Wright, it's held on a Saturday in late April and another in September in the field at the rear of the White Horse pub in Husbourne Crawley - a small village on the outskirts of Woburn, Beds, just off Junction 13 of the M1.

It's generally pretty well attended - weather permitting - with stands from the likes of Jasmine and Southbound as well as many other traders, large and small. Bev and Daryl of R24 usually have a "coffee lounge" and it's a great place to meet like souls.

OK - advert over!!

Regards

Dave
