I just drove the 'Ring in the Yellow Bird!

Well it arrived :) quick race in the ruf BTR (power up, weight down, tyres soft ) first lap 8:36 ish second lap 8:20 swapped to the 350z, similar power to weight / layout to my 944T
First lap missed the time but slowed by the gullwing Mercedes that didn't want to let me pass 2nd lap 8:11. Managed to get air cresting a hill along one section. Finding it quite realistic though I found the gradients more scary IRL. Back to work now :(

My lad managed an 8:50 at the 'ring in yellowbird, first time out....Whilst I was slower, I was pleased with my time, which was ironically 9:11!!

The 'ring bit is just awsome and you really do get the most incredible sensation of speed on the downhill bits......

I've had air most laps over a crest quite early in the lap both in the yellow bird and the RS4. Must be scary if it happens for real as I'm sure the speedo was reading 120+ in the Ruf.

I don't know what other circuits GT4 has apart from Laguna Seca as I'm far from bored of the 'Ring yet.

OMG!

First lap in the Yellow Bird, ASM off, soft tyres, everything else standard, 9'10".
Second lap 8'49".
Audi RS4 8'36".
Lister Storm 7'20".

I ******* LOVE this game!!!

Jim.

PS Anyone know a good divorce lawyer [:D]

So you can turn the ASM off -that was the prob I was having in some corners being unable to kick the tail out and getting terminal understeer...must go back and try!!

There are definitely some crests where air is obtained -scary!!

I have an excellent download of Hans Stuck driving the full 'ring in a BMW M3 GTR -awesome...
This guy is a god!! (And happens to know his way around the track quite well......)

Not bad for a beginner...[;)]

I'm officially crap at this game...

Missus going out for an hour in a couple of mins, I'd better get off to the Eiffel mountains in my Audi Estate for a bit of practice I think.

The Storm is quite nippy [8D] Managed a sub 8 minute lap in it (7:57). Also got my RS4 time down to 8:49. Still a long way from the times everyone else is posting though.

That will be the aptly named 'Flugplatz'. In a 944 you approach that in 4th gear over 100 mph but have to brake well before the crest or you do go light/ take off and sail straight past your braking point for the corner []

I'm all fired up to try out your RS4 now, I've only been using the Boxster and Yellowbird so far.

Bright blue I think (still really narked off that there is no online version[], this is the 21st century for gawds sake)

MY RS4 is black...

I haven't tried the Boxster but you will find the Audi is a far more benign beast (but with very similar go) than the yellow bird. Brakes are awesomely better. In fact if that is what they are really like then I really want one (not that I didn't before). I just need to get myself that car allowance first.

well i've been too busy downloading carrera gt and 360 cs videos (sorry i mean finishing the flooring[] ) now that i've entered the 21st century and got 1mb broadband, getting the ford gt as i type. Going to make it my mission after this to do a sub 8 minute lap without hitting the armco barriers or grass [:(][;)]

Listen to you lot. You sound like a bunch of kids.

(only jelous as the missus won't let me buy a PS2 after I never played with the Gamecube[]

I'm using the standard controller but I have been looking at the Logitech Driving Force Pro on the web. I read somewhere it works on the PC as well as the PS2 but Logitech themselves don't say that.

Now I know why your times are so slow. The RS4 is a rubbish car [:D] Very easy to drive but I can't even get below 9mins with it, whereas I can easily with the Boxster.

I have read on other forums that the Logitech Driving Force and the Driving Force Pro are both PC compatible. The Pro is twice the priceand the only difference is that it can be used with 900 degree steering lock (2.5 turns). Here'sa link

I've also found that you CAN play online (like Tony said) after downloading Xlink on to your PC and then plugging the PS2 online adaptor into a USB port.

2 player works well but 3 player can get a bit laggy []

No, that will be me![&:]

Hubby went out for his birthday last night so I got his birthday present out (GT4 and steering wheel before you all start thinking rude thoughts) and thought I'd have a go at the 'ring. Picked the GTR and hit every bit of armco on the track and spent most of the lap on the grass!
At least I know where reverse is! lol

Keep half an eye on the bottom right hand corner of the screen next to the "gear you are in" indicator there is a "gear for next corner" indicator (red) and it flashes when you need to brake, I do not pay to much attention to the actuall numbers but when it starts flashing you want to be braking. If you are a long way from the corner when it starts flashing its a tight one.

Tony

I've been deliberately trying to avoid using that; in fact I'd like to turn it off because I bought this game to learn the track from. It does reduce times though.

Maybe I'll give the Boxster a go, but I'm only borrowing it, it isn't mine...[:D]

You just need to programme your sat nav to do the same thing ;)

Another difference when you get to drive the real thing is having to keep something back on the fast blind corners or risk hitting something hard and stationary as you round a bend at 100+

In my experience with GT3 (when I am pretty sure in split screen you dont get it) the indicator will help get your times sensible, then extra time comes from learning the track which will have become a lot more familiar by then.

Tony

Oh and the 350Z is a japanese 944 :)
