insurance

I've just moved both of our cars from Liverpool & Victoria because they have blanket loaded all Porsche this year to get out of the business, a 51% increase for us [] This is despite being with them for two years with both cars and my house insurance. They were earning an easy £1200 p.a. from me with no claims ever but still they weren't intersted. Their loss.

All my insurance has now been moved to First Alternative who actually worked out a few quid cheaper for teh same standard of cover and I've reduced my voluntary excess amount, so I'm happy.

However, I will have to move the Turbo from them next month when it returns in its new state. At that point I'll be going down the same road as Fen.

You must ring around EVERYWHERE every year to find the company that are trying to attract new business that year/month/day [8|]

I always use this site:

http://www.insuresupermarket.com/motor/

You put in the basic details, and they submit to all of the insurance companies they know (lots). They then give you a list of in principal quotes. You then pick the ones you like and go for it.

You do need to revisit the quotes before you accept them, as the site makes certain assumptions about you when it does the search. It's saved me a fortune over the years. Most recently when I insured the 944 for 300 quid with NU Direct [8D]

Got another eight quotes on the phone which were from £1,200 to £2,100.
Then went onto internet, I did use the site you mentioned JamesH. after Googling 'insurance' This came up with over twenty quotes again from £1,100 to over £2000. The majority did hover around £1,500.
I did find a company called Swift Cover which came out at £627.97. I think I would like to talk to a human from there to make sure I haven't clicked something wrong.
I talked to LV to cancel my policy and the reason for it going up is that on the say so of the under writers all car groups have been re-evaluated and of course only the rain comes down. Apparently, my car is in group 23 out of 26???? eh! or something and 'some policys have gone up over a grand' and 'yes, most people seem to be not renewing with us!'
It seems that my wheels carry a 10% premium. I think I shall refurbish my D90's and stick them back on and sell my Cup 2's as it prevents even getting a quote from the majority of companies.

I find if you explainmy wheels are genuine Porsche, 2nd hand (jasmine price list is a good guide) and as such cost lest than replacing the originals they can be accepted at no extra charge.
Tony

I do explain that they are Porsche (and were actually second hand from Jasmine) but find myself having to answer 'well yes they not the wheels the car left the factory with, I guess...'
Maybe I shouldn't answer 'Yes, striving for a better world where our children can play together in harmony and a land without clowns' when they ask if I have any convictions.

"Do you have any convictions sir?"
"Yes. I'm against animal cruelty and GATSO cameras."

I'll get me coat.....[:)]

I pay just over £400 for my turbo cab, I have non standard wheels, two speeding convictions and a recent claim all of which have been declared. All these quotes of £1000+ started to worry me so I phoned my broker to check if my cover was adequate. He said that he was able to get it so low as it is a second car and is over 10 years old. If your paying more than this (especially if its a second car) I would recommend you speak to him.Or is £400 fairly typical? Am I allowed to put his details on the forum? I have no personal connection.

Have you tried Porsche yet?
They quoted me £526 on my 944 Turbo, second best price by £100.
I went with Adrian Flux at £442.

Chris, thanks. I shall give him a call as you never know.
I did talk to a human female at Swift Cover today, to go over the details which were all fine. The only thing was that they would not give protected no claims for the first year insuring with them. There lies a whole new debate 'to protect or not to protect'
I would feel a bit uneasy going with this company because of this and because funnily enough they are well cheap!
Going with Adrian Flux would give me a bit more confidence. I also got an e-mail reply from one of the search for you companies out there which came back with a quote from Adrian Flux for £94 less than I got when I rang. Bet if I rang back they could make up the money as things like legal cover etc were probably not in the e-mail quote.

I had to renew my insurance recently, and like many others was given a vast range of quotes, from £710 to just over £2000. I took the £710, protected NCB, with Norwich Union there and then, as they were cheapest and last in a long line of calls. Then my policy came through...

Even though i had been absolutley honest and open the phone, they had incorrect details for my parking arrangement (drive not street) my security (a boxter 05 Cat1 not factory fitted alarm and porsche immobiliser) and my excess (a £400 compusary excess had been added to the voluntary excess of £320 which i had agreed to).

My original quote came through an Indian call centre, as far as i was concerned they mis-sold me that policy. So, several phone calls later, they had gone over the tape of my quote and have agreed, in writing, to honour the policy as taken out..until renewel next year. Think i might be changing again come next October

incorrect details

beware of this. I think the guys on the phone fiddle with the details to get you a competitive quote. see link....
http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=104105&mpage=1&key=Insurance𙮍

problems arise when you try and claim. Suddenly 18 inch alloy wheels aren't on the system leading to a very very worrying 20 minutes on the phone while they the underwriters 'check out' the brokers info as compared to theirs.

I agree Mike, which is why i made sure that they sent me a letter stating clearly that i was covered for the car exactly as quoted, with all the relevant details spelled out, which they kindly did.
I'm sure the woman who took my quote changed my details to make it competitive, but as far as I was concerned, they entered into a contract with me when I paid for that quote, and i wanted them to honour it.

heritage insurance

£350 for 3000 miles, agreed value and pcgb track day cover on a 1988 250 bhp silver rose spec turbo

I called Houghton Insurance today. Colin asked me if I could point out to the forum where they will be able to be competetive is if it is a second car. So no quote for me .

2nd car policy

£260 restricted to 3000miles a year

pick my car up tomorrow,,a 1989 2.7 lux

And the winner is ....... Adrian Flux.
I know insurance is a boring subject and that we all have different criteria to make up an insurance profile.
It was just the fact that a company would increase the premium by so much that made me put digit to key.

The End.

(until next year)

I know, I know - flamingeye said the End, but I'd just like to ask a quick Q...I've chosen Senor Flux (By miles the cheapest) but they require a Cat 2 immobiliser on my beloved. Google pointed me to Abacus Car Alarms, who for £140 are coming to my house, (SE9) to fit said immobiliser. Is this a good deal?

Thanks.
