Still a newbie here and tryiing to get sensible quotes for an S2 as a second ,very limited usage car.
Quotes have been, err, interesting. Who do you guys use for more than one vehicle?

Hi Barry,

The trouble with insurers is that they all have very specific demographics they're looking for, so what's good for one person will be useless for someone else.

I had a lot of trouble with limited-mileage policies as mine isn't garaged, and that is a criteria they didn't account for at the time. Renewing this year it wasn't a problem. The only way to get the best deal for your own circumstances is to trawl through dozens of insurers until you find the one that wants your business!

Also, ask about discounts for membership of the Club - some do give quite a decent discount which pays for a large chunk of the membership fee.

Obviously prices depend on your Age & driving history + car Garaging (in the garage between 10pm & 6am etc etc)

I tried 13 companies for my 1st Porsche 944 2.7 RH Specialist Cars were cheapest @ £183.75 (Nov 04)
Saga & Chris Knot Top circa £480

2nd Car 944 S2 Cab I went to Carole Nash as they would cover both cars classic, limited mileage (3k) with one of the cars on the drive (had both 2.7 & S2 for a few months) Cost S2 £206.91 2,7 @ £177.98 (pretty good I thought!)

However I sold the S2 Cab to get a special 944 Turbo (well there all special really!) & went to AON 1st yr @ £459 (5k) including 5 track days/yr !!! (did 1 at Donington) but change from them at renewal (£490 + track day costs) & went to Peart £379.60 (5k) they also offer NCB each year.

Thats my potted 4yr history for what its worth, best of hunting.
btw quote pcgb mem no & get a club discount.

I contacted Carol Nash about my new 944 yesterday (to be picked up Saturday) and was told that as I hadn't had it for more than a year they couldn't put it on a classic insurance [8|][] How stupid is that ????!!!!.

Am currently with Lancasters who are pretty good.

I just popped in here to see what you guys are being quoted and I dont think they are doing to bad at £217.

That's 944T '91. Full Comp. 3000 miles. Agreed value is £15 extra for 2 years. Garaged, somewhere in Surrey.

So I think I will be staying with them.

Cheers Robbie

Adrian Flux - classic policy - S2, comprehensive cover, 5000 miles pa limit, agreed value - £299 (age 40).

Try A-Plan, a broker who actually seem to do some work (i.e. they don't just feed the details into confused.com, add 10% and cream off the profits.)

I have used them for the last 3 years, and they have consistently beaten any price I have found myself.

Excellant 157.96 fully Comp. agreed value, and no silly excess, I have been with these 3 years now and just insured my other car with them as well.

1987 944s and I am 44 the underwriter is Royal Sunalliance

The lowest quote I got was with Endsleigh I believe, but that was not what most people would call sensible as it is well into 4 figures due to being 19. I was still mad enough to go for it though.

That is funny coz I have just been reading the self same thing. Which is what prompted me to come over here.

I'm OK thanks, looking for some events to rock up to.

Hello Mark, hope you are well.

mine was £150 for 5000 miles, second car classic policy from RH, including recovery service

the 993 was a little more [:D]

That's gotta be close to the cheapest 944 quote I have ever heard (mind you its not many people that are limited to such low mileage). A 25% increase does seem to be a big jump but if they are still the cheapest what else can you do?

Sounds to me like they did a market re-evaluation and realised they were selling themselves too cheap [8|]

I was previously with Firebond who were brought out by Footman James. My premium with Firebond was £370 on their classic policy with 5000 miles per annum and market value.
When Footman James took over and it came up for renewal they wanted £430. For the record I am 29 (was 28 at the time) and have 6 points, no claims in the last 5 years and have the use of several other cars.

I shopped around using one of the comparison website and ended up going with Lancaster Insurance for a faintly believable £210.00 - again classic policy, 5000 miles but agreed value. They have asked all the right questions so far and been prompt with their communications etc. I know you don't know what they will perform like until you need to, but they sure are cheap.

Justin.

I paid £220 for my 968 for 5000 miles and agreed value with Hagerty Insurance in April. They were about £100 cheaper than my previous insurers. I think my excess is only £150 too.

I paid £173.25 with Richard Hosken including the IPT.

Mileage limited to 3k.

I think I found them in the back of 911 & PW.

Didn't think it was too bad really.
