Is KW user friendly?

Tommo
They "might" be difficult to get hold of because there getting ready for Autosport.. At the NEC...
If you can get yourself along to that, then youl be able to chat with most if not all the current suppliers of suspension systems...

Regarding the Kokeln bar delete...
A chap off the 968 forum has just bought one..
I dought very much if he would want to sell. As i dont know of any other Kokeln "bar delete" axle in the UK...
They dont come cheap..[;)][;)][;)][;)]..

Why would you want something like that.??? I cant see the point in spending that sort of money on a track day car, when doing the KW + re-indexing, + better bushes are "in my humble opinion" ample..[ Although i have an open mind+ maybee proved wrong.. ]...Unless youve "a" got loads of money... Or "b" doin some SERIOUS racing...

OH
and the KW,s dont come with a remote reservoir, cannister... There twin separate adjustable, bump + rebound , Then height...

Hi Big Dave

The Kokeln bar delete lowers the roll centre and therefore lets the suspension do its job in a kinder environment! [:D]
I do intend to go racing next year. I intend to get back into it this year as I havent raced for 10yrs now!
I have to get ARDS out of the way and lose the "current bun" before I start putting a porsche on the grid in anger! So may do a few guest drives this year for a few people I have prepared cars for in the past. I also need to get used to the characteristics of the 944 on track. So want to do some serious testing and have some fun this year!!
Dave I am sure you can appreciate that notwithstanding the fact that KW have Autosport at the NEC I am in build as many people are during winter. Therefore this is the time the race suppliers need to give attention to new customers. Leda are doing Autosport too but have time to reply to emails and take calls. When I go racing if I have a valve go after an event I may only have a week to get a replacement as well as maybe complete some further development. If I can't get through to them now, what would the stress be like if I can't get support when I own the shocks? Maybe they will come back to me this week!
Cheers
Tom

I got some initial feedback from KW North America after they returned from the holidays on Jan-02...

(as Fen suspected) The strut mounts that Patrick got with his KW setup are because its a 2-way race system, not a V3 setup. However, KW NA said there maybe "top mounts" as they call them for the V3 setup available at the end of this month, they were waiting on an update from KW AG.

KW are going to be releasing a Club Sport line soon, sorta halfway between V3 and race... and they will have top mounts available. Again, KW NA will know more at the end of January.

Karl.

Booked the car in with Promax for KW V3 and t bar reindex with suspension/steering set up properly

Going to go for the Weltmeister ARB`S and 968 castor mounts too. Thats used up a considerable amount of my budget so having had prices for all the options I now need to cherry pick the remainder to stay within budget.

Any thoughts on the immediate need for a strut/turret brace? Dont need the expense (believe me) but the stiffer arb etc puts extra strain on the cars limited rigidity without a s/b?

Got two mates with an RS and a Turbo who reckon they will still give my car a pasting on track this year []

I've been pleased with the Heigo strut brace (provided by CarCraphic) on both my cars, one having rubber mounts and the other solid mounts.
By the way, you may well fit solid strut mounts along with the strut brace.

I'm pretty sure that the KW 3-way race has a outboard or remote resevoir or at least that's what it looks like in the pictures.

Don't worry about your mates Hilux. You're going to pick up stacks of time with those suspension modifications!!!

Hi,

Well KW couldn't be bothered to speak to me. I sent them a dozen emails and left phone messages to no avail.
I did manage to speak to Germany who were very helpful but said for local support I would have to rely on the UK importer. So guys its going to be triple adjustable Ledas with Racers Edge Arms and sperical bearings.
Cheers
Tom

MMMmmmmmmmmmm I hope so (think so) but I feel it is tyres that may let me down.

I have Falken FK 451`s which seem fine on the road but are untried on the track [&:]

I'm not sure on the Falkens. My mechanic froth's at the mouth at the mere mention of them. You can take it that he doesn't like them. lol. Are yours an R rated spec tyre? If not don't even bother. Just buy the Toyo R888's and be prepared for a step up. There are of course lots of good R spec tyres but the Toyo's are the best bang for buck available...well at least in OZ anyway. My rears still cost more than $500 or 200 of your pounds each to buy here but everything is expensive for cars down under!

Pat
The Falken FK451,s are road tyres...So not the best for track work..

Hilux
Your far better off getting some of the Toyo R888,s OR any other track day tyre. It makes a HUGE difference....
Only snag is they dont come cheap....
Nobody said this track daying was cheap....[8|][8|][8|][8|][8|]

Exactly....................but I bought them cheap as I needed a set quickly and was (relatively) short of cash at the time and did a poll and found that they werent a bad compromise however the 911`s rely massively on their tyres particularly the inside rear when cornering and even recommend track daying with at least 3/4 tank of fuel for the added rear weight.

I noticed that even on my old worn SO2`s I was quicker on the tight twisties than 911`s just not fast enough on the faster corners cos the SO2`s went off v quickly

Last time mates 911 turbo went to B Autodrome he finished off a set of (I think) pilots at about 250 per corner [&:][&:]

Cant wait to try the V3/Wmeister set up soon to be fitted.

Well as you would have noted from others like Fen, Dave, and me, the biggest advantage that the KW's give you is in traction I believe. That is where you can attack corners that previously you had to feather the throttle or even back off. They allow you to pick up stacks of time just through this alone. When you add this with better bushings that allows the geometry to stay where it is intended rather than the oem rubber stuff that wallows out of alignment, you will be amazed how much faster you can go!
Let us know when you get to the track of your results? Oh and definitely get some track tyres. Don't even think about not getting them. Do not pass go. Don't worry about collecting 200 quid either, you'll have to part with plenty though.[:D][:D][:D]

Hilux, when is your car booked in for the install? I'm waiting on tenderhooks to hear your impressions!

10th Feb [8D][8D]

Cant wait, especially as I`ve got Mo30 which is v good but far too baggy/wallowy for me. To be honest a lot of us are running around on tired Mo30 which if renewed alongside all bushes etc must also transform the car?

New discs, braided hoses etc and any bushes that need replacing also so it `should` be a much tauter car all around I hope.

Still in two minds re pads Mintex 1155`s or EBC red stuff (I`ve used green stuff on my Westy and G27 with no probs at all except that the 951 is heavier) as I got brake fade on Green stuff [&:] admittedly they recovered really quickly and are fine for fast road IMO

I hope (extension allowing) to make Silverstone on the 24th so as to see how the new set up is [8D] particularly as Andrew S is going so he might be kind enough to give me an opinion (hopefully)

Run anything else but ebc greens. My god I had those, went to yellows, thought ok this is a bit better, went to PFC's and thought what the hell rubbish was I running on before. Get Mintex's or PFC's or a bit of old cardboard, just don't race on the ebc's as far as I'm concerned. In fact since Fen put me onto the PFC's I'm looking very closely to their entire setup for brakes. They're the only company at least in the U.S. that make all 3 components in house. Pads, Calipers, and Rotors. For road and track.

Mintex are more dusty & can squeal a bit - but I wouldn't go for reds. The red ceramic are better than greens - I had them on my 924S (no mintex or ferodo available) & they lasted Ok on the track

but 1155's feel so much sharper and will stand up to the heat generated by track work (not slicks though ;) )

Mintex 1155`s it is then.

Any recommendations as to where to get a good deal on them? I`m in North Herts BTW
