M3 - Decisions, decisions.........

i offered floor mats on a new 335i back last october and told rather brusquely that the ex demos would be the same price as list after 4 months as they were so hotly sought after-bull!!after 4 months the exdemos he was selling at 10k below list-£33k as opposed to 43k he wanted off me in october!!
57k for an m3 is real madness as it will be down by 20k in less than 2yrs like the m5

put your hardearned elsewhere[:D]

Read the Autocar RS4 vs New M3 article.

Buy yourself a clean second hand previous generation M3 for family duties and keep the C2S for the weekends

99% decided not to go for the M3 now, too poor value. However, tested an M5 this morning. Absolutely fantastic engine, handled well too. I have to say though, at very high speeds it is so quiet and unflustered that it felt like I could have been doing half the speed. But.........it just didn't feel alive like my 997S. Apart from the occasional time when one gets the opportunity to have a bit of fun, it feels like a 530, capable but nothing special. My porker on the other hand, I got back in that afterwards, heard the engine, sat lower in the car, felt the feedback through the steering wheel and voila, felt at one with the car immediately. It was like being reunited with a best friend.

Can these 911 shackles ever be broken? I'm beginning to thing I should give up on cars, get myself a diesel Passat and take flying lessons instead.

trust me julio-a diesel passat will NEVER fly[:D]

No, but any remapped BMW diesel will !!

Another thing with any VAG Group diesel is that they all sound like canal boats !!!

Your best bet for a real world performance 3 Series would be a 335i Coupe with all the toys and remapped to 350 bhp + from one of the reputable tuners. Hartge are claiming 4.9 secs to 62mph for their version, DMS will be similar I think when they release their product. None too shabby then.

Yves

M3 will be a prize turkey at that price I think, far too expensive for a 3 Series, no matter how good it is. [&:]

I took my own advice and ordered a spanking, fully loaded 335i Coupe to replace the X51 with. [:)]

Now, time to get saving up for a propper ( Porka ) car again ! [:D]

Yves

hope you enjoy it[:D]i suspect the extra 50hp will give it the extra zip i felt it needed to make it feel special

You didn't happen to order a turbo then did you?

Afraid not, not THE TURBO anyway.

The Beemer has two turbos having said that and apparently will tune quite easily to 350bhp so I wont be feeling too embarrassed in the traffic light grands prix !

dylan,

This will be my sixth new BMW in as many years and have loved them all so no concerns there.

Just want/need to waft around under the radar for a while if you know what I mean.

I shall make every effort to be back in a 911 in a few years time.

Yves

yves
i know exactly how you feel about the radar[:D]
i too have had 6 new 3 series over the years(4 coupe/m3 and two tourers)and none have disappointed-great cars all very liveable with.
good luck

The reason the new M3 costs 50k+options is because the RS4 costs 50k+options, and has been a huge sales success. Just drive it properly, and only buy it if you really like it.

Can anybody tell me how I list my car for sale on this website please?

Thanks in anticipation.

Julio,

Thats easy, go to 'Members for Sale' section, new post and then proceed as follows.

'Free to a good home' etc. You can fill the rest in.

Nobody will bid as they would rather pay 6-7k more at the Stealers for the same car !

Encouragingly Yours

Yves

Thanks Yves, a gent as usual.

Still haven't decided what to buy so reckon I'll knock about in a £200 Escort for a couple of months while I decide. Done it before and causes much amusement amongst my colleagues and friends!

Julio,

I am now into my third week without the 911 and its a desolate ghost town of a place, tumbleweed everywhere...... Every time I open the garage door and see that empty space ....

Anyway, getting back to the original question.

The WORST thing you could do is to buy the new E92 M3. A huge amount of money for a car that will satisfy 100% less than an entry level C2.

Dont do it. The Minger Escort makes much more sense !!

Respectfully

Yves

That quite true, but to be fair I don't think I'd spend that sort of money without the dealership backup.

OK a little different with Yves car as possibly some of us feel we know the car through the community on here, however alot of people don't have that privilege.
Not alot of people are going to be paying cash or would any sellers sell via a cheque for that kind of money either, so the safe option is to buy via the dealers, OK it 7K more but thats better than buying a ringer or stolen motor and losing the whole lot !!

IMHO only...[:-]

Julio, Get yourself a test drive in a Maserati Gransport, in that price range superb car. Ferrari engined, sounds wonderful, goes really well, feels very special to drive, comfortable and it really surprises me how attention the car gets, good attention I mean by that as well, everybody seems to respect seeing a masser which is nice!.
Traded down from a 997 GT3 myself and didnt know what to buy, to be honest probably a bit bored of the incredibly efficent but boring German type car ( not Porsche obviously, but BMW/Audi I mean ) had an M6 for a while ..fast, good Gt car, but just no excitement....and judging from the reports the new M3 is much of the same.
Take your £55k or whatever down to your Maserati dealer mate!!
