New Boxster

There is always alot of debate on here over the Climate Control option (as opposed to Air Con). I went for it in the end.

Parking sensors also come into this category. Again .... I went for them as I figured £300 now was cheaper than a bumper respray later.

The best advice I received was spec the car you want (or can afford) now and enjoy. Changing things later can get very expensive.

At the end of the day im after a sports car not a button pressing, stereo blasting posing machine. But i have a girlfriend who likes the odd tune, as long as the normal package is adequate ie you can hear it at 90mph cough i mean 70mp with the windows up but roof down then that will do me.

I went for the Bose/wind deflector package (it was actually cheaper than specing seperately). I've used it in all conditions now and I can say that i'm not beside myself with anticipation of the next musical journey. It's good but not great. I think it's better than the standard package, but it jolly well should be as it costs nearly $1000 (pounds).

However, as it's a soft top and prone to additional exterior noise, you can't expect concert hall accoustics and the best you can do with the top down at 70 mph is actualy hear what is being played.

I tend not to turn the volume up past 25 on the dial with the roof up as it's generally loud enough and even with the top down it's never gone up to full volume. I think the problem is, even though it sounds clear and bright, emphasising the high range, the bass just dosen't do enough, making the experiene a bit weak.

Maybe too critical but I like quality sound.

Would I go for the Bose package in the future? Hmm that's difficult.

What sort of delivery time have you been given for orders placed now? Keep in mind MY07 starts in Sept and rumours are the 2.7 will be get a 3.0 upgrade...

way

I'm new to this site but am due delivery of my new girl anytime soon (was supposed to be this saturday - but thats a different story [])

With regards to the stereo I was in exactly the same position when I ordered mine. In my honest opinion the standard set up is absolutely dreadful - embarassingly so for a 32K+ car. The sound had no low range and it all came at you from the front. I know the engine is a musical instrument in its own right - but I do like my tunes when cruising on the M/way or stuck in traffic.

I didn't listen to the PSP, but again you do not get any music from behind its all from infront

I went for the Bose with deflector in the end just because I thought the sound was more befitting for a 32k+ motor, its by no means the best audio set up I have heard in a car and it is pretty bloody expensive!

If you're not too bothered I'd probably suggest the PSP upgrade

My spec, if you're interested is Silver, black partial leather and black roof, bose+wind, climate and 'S' wheels

Would have liked heated seats and reverse sensors but was on a budget...

Hope this is of some use to you

Regards
OJ

Go for part leather, not full - its no longer needed for resale as the plastics are so nmuch better nowadays

Auto Air Con - nice but not essential, and you won't be more than £300 out come trade in without it

Sound Package - improvement to the std sounds, and a good selling point .

£1000 for a stereo upgrade - jeez.
You could buy a whole lot of after-market kit for a lot less than that.
Bose kit is average in my experience ...

Is it very difficult to fit a stero to a boxster for some reason ?

Way,

I've just done one of those Lexfreechoice.co.uk quotes (just for the fun of it) and found that after 3 years the residual price of the boxster is exactly the same for a base model as it is for one bought with £6,000 worth of extras. So my advice is to only order the extras that YOU want while you have the car and don't order anything that you think will add to the re-sale value.

BTW all boxsters have the main option as standard - absolutely brilliant fun every time you get in it! [:)]

Took a bit of time, but here are some images (one at a time!):

There was a review In yesterdays Daily Telegraph which was positive.
But the options sounded very exmpensive as usual.
Do you still only get a 2 year guarantee ?

The 981 comes with a three year warranty, two years from Porsche and a third year via the dealer. The price of the extra year, £660, is included in the basic UK price and is not an option. It's four years in the USA! Plus ca change.

I know of new owners who have opted out of the 3rd year 'option'. Note that the 3rd year is not the same as the first two.

It really is outrageous only 2 years and pay for a 3rd then pray for the rest ...

If I'm right the 3 rd year is in fact an extended warranty, not at all like the factory warranty and I thought it was more than 600. Why do other markets get a better warranty and not us ?

I have yet to work it out why Porsche seem to think the UK customer base are so dumb to accept shorter warranty period than most other parts of the world and other sports car makers.

Great products, but on just about every forum there is always a moan about Porsche warrantys ......:(
