Notice anything different?

Oli,,,
i think i have sussed it,,,
you are now a official lol,,,PORSCHE CLUB GB MEMBER.....
Am i correct?,,,,,,jasonp

It is usual that a guest of a club is there by invitation and it is not acceptable to express opinions or. views. Quite why PCGB allows "guests" to post on forums has always been a mystery to me, and something that will no doubt be addressed at some stage?
Personally I find it insulting to members, but that's just my opinion

Thank you for your views Graham. We're actually very friendly to members and often help them out when they post on here with their questions and issues.

wow.....oh well not everyone fits in I guess.....just for your information graham, some of us 'guests' have also been members and may well rejoin, I have done this a few times over the years, first joining in 1999....this group is about sharing and helping, many here used to be part of the very good 'Titanic' group, myself taking some time before leaving 'Titanic' (actually I never did) and coming here as most other members had already done so. You ask why PCGB allows 'guests', I ask why does it allow 'arseholes'?......get my point???

It is for this very reason that Paul and I have fought to maintain a welcome, and access, to non members, many of whom are a great deal more helpful and experienced than paid up members in assisting others with queries.

It is a subject that is debated frequently, and at length, at Workers Conferences and even AGM's. While ever everyone plays nicely together, and provides a positive contribution to the forum, I see no reason to change.

It's been ages since this narrow minded attitude was last wheeled out.

I've recently joined the club but have used the forum for a few years before that.

If I hadn't been able to use the forum I would never have joined the club.

Yeah. I quite agree. And as a new member (in fact, I think I was PCGB's newest member for almost all of last weekend!) then I reserve the right to be insulted! []

Or, on a more serious note, I fail to see the problem. I benefitted hugely from this forum as a non-member and hope that I helped others (members and non-members alike). Does it make any difference whether the person asking for help or being given help is a member or not? I don't think it does but echo Grant's (hibeeg's) sentiment that were it not for being allowed non-member forum access I would never have taken up membership.

Now, can we go back to being silly? I much prefer it and think that, as a member, I should be able to dictate the tone of this thread!

It s exactly that kind of attitude that stops so many joining, you do realise that your body functions just the same of the rest of us and just because you are a member of a club does not mean you are some kind of elitist that can judge others, I have helped loads on here with spare parts some advice some helpful some not, and also been approached to help a reg sec,

but as I cannot do that job without being a member, which I was considering doing, your attitude has convinced me that this is a club I will never be a member of, and it also rubs off on Porsche owners as being aloof.

and do you own a 911 of course you do,

Oh well, if that's the case then I'm cancelling my membership! Do you think I'll get my fiver back? [:)]

Chaps, this thread has all become a little more heated than I had intended. Apologies if I have kicked off something I shouldn't but please can we keep it friendly - which is the general tone of the whole of this forum (and another one of the reasons I joined the club!) If not then I may, for the first time ever, ask the mods to close it, or delete it, or something!

You find it insulting to members? You are a fool Graham. Without guest members the 944 forum would have died many years ago, and clowns like you are the reason that many will not join (or in my case re-join) PCGB.

Oli, back on topic.....I'm sure we've met many years ago, unless it was a different Oli, however I didn't see, or recognise you at Goodwood. Maybe you've just got more handsome over the years, or maybe I've got more blind....

Phil,

Phew! There was I thinking this thread was doomed for ever! Thanks for giving it a good kick in the right direction.

I don't recall meeting you at any point but my memory ain't what it used to be. There may well be other Oli's in the 944 world (Olli Snellman comes quickly to mind, although he's furrin) which would explain it.

I didn't meet anyone at Goodwood whom I remember meeting before, other than Martin (Waylander). I put this down to the fact that most of the cars there were 968's and I have only been to 944 events previously. I wondered if it betokened a bit of a merging of the two groups, which I thought was probably a good thing.

Oli.

As always it is great to meet all new folks and of course you again Oli

the goodwood thing was just a 968 GTG up until this year, it was something a little more than standing chatting in s pub car park, deflecting offers and propositions.

It was brill to have all the FE cars there invited by the 968 reg sec Ken due to having a round of the porsche championship there, what I am now afraid of is our 968uk meet up being over taken by PCGB and then only members invited

lets hope this does not happen and it becomes one of the years best free days out, for all FE car owners

Ding ding - I'll happily second all of Martin's sentiments there! Looking forward to it again next year.

Oli.

Oh dear, obviously touched a nerve here. I guess its a sensitive subject to some people so I must apologise if I may have inferred that "guests" are simply "freeloading cheapskates"
having a "guest policy" is a great way to introduce prospective members to the club.
Indignant reaction to my post is interesting though, Fool? Been called worse, Clown? Hate the things!
Of course I have a 911...had them for 30 years.. if you saw my car I doubt you could call me an elitist.
back in the day I was fortunate enough to own a 944 (demo) sadly had to chop it for family friendly transport, but still in my top 5 list of best cars owned, and the "poor mans Porsche" jibes never bothered me.
Another 944 is on my bucket list, however I fear my bucket has a leak and that will stay unfilled particularly now prices have gone mental.
anyway, apology for upsetting anyone, and great forum
Graham
