here's the full label along with the box headings...

Ive looked at that a hundred times and never really thought it through. It was an aside though and my point remains: it's a 944 Turbo, and occasionally a 951, but never a 952, and you know what I mean Pete. It is identified as a typ.951 in the VIN and RHD is of no more real interest than the colour of the carpets.
I agree fully Simon, it's a 944 Turbo or as I prefer, 951... but clearly, Porsche labeled it a 952. It's probably an internal label for book keeping purposes so they can see at a glance how many RHD vs LHD cars have been produced. May it even have something to do with EU regulations? mind you a check could be for other owners here to check their's, who knows what the real answer is?.......no argument from me....my car will always be a 944 Turbo and a very nice one at that....:)

Pete

You'll notice that it is the part number prefix for RHD parts too (eg rack, cross member, dashboard etc).

...You obviously confuse me with someone who gives a ? . I have already said I don't care one way or another it just amused me..

John, calm down it's not a debate or an opinion but factual information on production type codes that Porsche use, some of the info on the Wiki list or anywhere else could be incorrect? so it's always best / professional and adult like to discuss such.

There's not need to assume like some that it's a debate and should be turned that way with animosity etc..
If you or anyone else is not interested in the technical details and facts of Porsche cars, that's not a problem. Some owners like to polish their car
but are not interested in how the car's made, designed and works etc..others are the reverse or both!

Either way, there's no need to put down and ridicule such interests that some are and some are not interested in.

R

Aside some amusement, as already noted, I have no emotional involvement with the debate. I don't quite see how I can calm down from a position of complete apathy.

You are obviously very passionate in your convictions, and I applaud you for your passion, but please don't try to manipulate me into ratifying an opinion over something I have no opinion on.

With regard to ridicule, it would take a very sensitive person to feel ridiculed by a position of disinterest.

I was wondering whether there is some kind of award for the thread that has gone the furthest off-topic on this forum, and whether we could submit this one if there is.

Did you not get your chisel and slate in your membership pack to submit it?

No, but they did post me a nice pack of stickers, membership cards, a welcome letter and a (used) £20 note this week. Which was kind of them.

And you really need a Porsche 944, too! :ROFLMAO: It is always sad to see an enthusiast leave the marque P-Mac.

Unless circumstances change a 944 is not on the cards in the future. I've settled in to a great life down in the arse-end of Cornwall, and get married in two weeks time, but the single-track roads around here, caked in mud and salt, with no local mechanic capable of working on my van, let alone a 944......it's not going to be a pleasure.
A cheap 924, perhaps? Maybe an old Boxster. Both are unlikely, as height really makes a difference on the single-lane roads. My van is a faster and safer thing to drive than our MG ZR, as visibility is the one thing that slows you down.
If only the Macan was less wide: I notice all the owners of the mid-size VW-group 4x4 range struggling as much as the Cayenne/Q7/Touareg drivers when finding a passing space. :-(

924s are ace, although theyre a little gruff after a 944. Id suggest swapping the ZR for a ZS too, ideally a TD, if you can. With a little tinkering they are ridiculously nippy.

You must be kidding Oil? :ROFLMAO:

This is the 944 forum. A more sought after, and rare, award would be for a thread that stayed on topic.

Very good, John - very good. It's nice to see that standards are being maintained, in so many ways. [:)]

Well you know how it is once you set a precedent. :ROFLMAO:

And while typing, as I haven't said so before, "Welcome to the Club!". I am sure a whole new experience will be revealed to you over time - exciting/astounding/interesting/frustrating/enlightening and many other things - saving money on running a Porsche being by far the best.

Wear your badge with pride (not that sort of pride - as yet another perfectly good word in the English language is hijacked) and learn how to  It will stand you in good stead.

Oooooh, that all sounds very interesting! And quite intriguing. Will I enjoy it? Do I have to take part or just watch? Will it hurt? Are you in some way responsible for all the  that goes on? How do I get out if I want to? When do they bring on the dancing girls?

All these questions!

Pretty much both yes and no to all of the above aside the last one which, in my experience, is regrettably never. [:(]

With regard to the "How do I get out...?" The answer is probably in a box. Many have tried and failed - Example A Paul McNutters
