Omg, how clean is this turbo?!

Saw it and thought, why ?.

For concours of course.. It's what some people enjoy doing. Think I've seen this car in the flesh and it is lovely, he has a 933 turbo as well I believe - if it's the same person. There's usually a mirror under it so people can see just how immaculate it really is.

Value? Well, it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. If someone wants a concours 944 then there you have I expect they'll pay handsomely for it. Doubt there is too many people out there who want one though. Be interesting to see what happens.
 
There is no denying it is clean. I am a little uncomfortable about some aspects though.

The goldy coloured bits, that were originally passivated metal, look like they have been painted, as do some of the aluminium castings. Surely the whole point of concourse is that it should be original? Clean and polished and nice but still as it would have been when it left the factory.

How do you value that? It is like paying way over the odds for a low mileage car. You pay extra for the low miles but devalue its most desirable attribute if you use it. For this, one assumes, someone will pay over the odds because it was fastidiously clean. Unfortunately, the first time he drove it in the rain he could halve its value.

I know about concours, people sitting on deck chairs next to cars they have trailered to some field, with mirrors under them [;)].
 
Chris' car is better than new. Whether you like concourse or not, it's a genuine winning car. Of course, as soon as you get it dirty it's just another turbo.

I wonder whether most people that into concourse would rather do the car themselves, not buy a ready-to-win example? I'd certainly think it'll be another c. £15K car as there are only a couple of cars that good in the country.

That's exactly why I could never be a concours addict!

Most of the fun is in the driving for me (and getting my hands dirty) so owning something that I'd never want to drive for fear of devaluing/defacing it, kind of misses the point for me!

I don't like the painted items either, but this remains a mean comment with regards to the effort spent turning it so clean.
A friend of mine is into this detailing thing too, can't help sigh when I see him spending whole sundays with a tooth brush cleaning tiny areas that probably will never see the colour of the sky, yet we all have to admit the 944 population would benefit from more examples of this genre.
The owner has got all my respect.
 
Obviously, as we have a concourse winning RS, we need to pick our words wisely. [;)]

I like my car clean - principally so I can see if it is going wrong and so I don't get covered in crud putting it right when it does. There is no denying that very clean cars are perhaps more sound mechanically because you can see if something is amiss before it develops into a big issue.

In that respect it is, most likely, a good car.

I would never decry or belittle someone for spending time cleaning their car. It is very therapeutic and relaxing. I should spend more time doing mine.




 
OCD Alert! lovely car i'd be scared to even breathe on it.

Quite a feat, got to love them concours folks means normal people know theres some hermetically sealed version of their car preserved for eternity.

I removed a dead leaf or two from my engine bay the other day, looked around a bit, saw dirt, then realised if I carried on it would never, ever, end.

SimonP's car is the better would be my suggestion - or would be if it weren't red [:D]

I say that because it happens to look ultra clean and original through having parts replaced and refurbished. The other car looks clean (and not so original as some have already said) merely through being cleaned, cleaned and cleaned again.

While I agree with John that a clean car is easier for spotting mechanical problems merely being cleaned in extremis doesn't in itself address any potential issues. Also note that if you bought this and got it dirty then it would be a tidy but unexceptional 220 Turbo in a good colour Buy Simon's and use it and you'll have a dirty 250 Turbo is not quite as-new, but has a few miles on it (in a rubbish colour of course).

Wasn't this the Turbo that was sitting on the TIPEC stand when we joined up at Goodwood FoS a few years ago, John? Also wasn't the owner the RO of PCGBs Dorset region once upon a time? If so I believe he turned up at a Devon and Cornwall event while representing his region but driving a Ferrari.

I wouldn't be surprised, although I thought it was on the PCGB stand to the left of the Race Centre awning. Wasn't there a white 944 on the TIPEC stand (How sad do I sound?)

It stood out in my eyes, on that occasion, because although the bonnet was down you could see the bolts holding the wings on through the panel gap. This isn't notable in its self except they were a different colour to the wings - which is. I think you can also pick that out in the pictures.
 
It may have been the PCGB stand. In any case we seem to agree it was the same car, and I remember that we looked at it and basically commented that it was very clean, but showed lots, and lots of signs on non-originality that could be picked up by a group of 944 anoraks even with the bonnet closed and doors locked. So, is it a concourse winner because it's clean but the judges don't know what a 944 should look like?

Value? £4-£5k assuming the recent history stacks up (by which I mean has it just been polished and bits of it painted gold, or has it had the belts and fluids changed when they fall due).

It's an insult to SimonP's car to compare them.
 
Its a lovely example (except for the rubber spoiler, I do love bridge spoilers) and I think we would all admit its worth a purchase for the right price, like Fen says around the 4-5K mark, I would buy it, use it and just keep it as clean as possible without going OTT, but you have to admire anyone willing to preserve one of our great cars like this (S2 or Turbo) [:D]
 
Something tells me the owner probably thinks it's worth closer to that figure with a one on the front.

He's selling for a house sale and wants another project, ideally a Turbo Cab. He thinks he can get a Turbo Cab and have worthwhile change from what he gets for that car in other words.

No insult intended, I haven't seen either car, I can see why Simons car is worth £13k+ as it has also been mechanically overhauled and uprated, the 220 bhp car looks nice but It's much less desirable to me.
